Just a few more days of heat and it'll finally cool off…hopefully by Monday. We kicked things off this morning with the original version of the Thursday Song and the latest on the government shutdown. A winner has been declared in this year's 2025 "Fat Bear" contest and he's SUPER chonky! Do you work in an office? Do you wear shoes all day? Apparently, that might be changing in the future. In sports, a recap of yesterday's MLB Wild Card action, a look at tonight's kickoff to Week 5 in the NFL including an injury update on Brock Purdy and a new starting QB for the Browns. Elsewhere in sports, the WNBA Finals begin tomorrow night & John Cena's final match is rapidly approaching. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight and we spoke with Office Cora to see what she's up to in the 715 this weekend. Feel-good story about a piglet that jumped off a truck in Iowa and earned her freedom thanks to her tenacity & will to live! It's Hypothetical Thursday, so we asked each other Hypothetical Questions. Jean's question for Brian was: " " Brian's question for Jean was: " " This shouldn't come as a surprise, but your A.I. devices are not only listening to you…but they're collecting data about your life & will soon be pushing targeted ads at you. Yay for the future! Idiocracy is almost here. A recent survey found that just 1 out of every five people admit to having sex at a music festival(feels kinda low). And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy doing 124mph in a Toyota Camry and trying to use the old "I have to go to the bathroom" excuse, a 22 year-old in Minnesota who enrolled in a high school with a fake identity, a warning to North Korean women who have breast implants, a woman in Kentucky who trashed a Little Ceasar's restaurant because they charged her for extra sauce, a dude in NY who stole a tow truck while the operator was repossessing his car, and an actress who was replaced by a very special someone in a new series on Hulu.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hurray's Girl Beer isn't just another craft brand. It's a calculated rebellion against an industry stuck in the past. In this episode, Hurray's founder Ray Biebuyck joins Taste Radio editor Ray Latif and Brewbound managing editor Jess Infante to share her vision for a beer brand that doesn't just challenge convention, it openly mocks it. Witty, unapologetic, and intentionally unorthodox, Hurray's markets flavored light beers, including Pineapple Yuzu and Blueberry Lavender varieties, crafted not to honor tradition, but to disrupt it. The brand's satirical, female-forward positioning flips the script in a category that has long overlooked nearly a third of its audience: women. Ray discusses how Hurray's draws more from stand-up comedy than legacy brewing playbooks, using humor and irreverence as tools for connection, and conversion. She also reveals how this disruptive approach is translating into real-world traction, with Hurray's on track to reach over 3,000 retail locations, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, BevMo, Total Wine, Sprouts, and Walmart, by Q1 2026. Show notes: 0:25: Interview: Ray Biebuyck, Founder & CEO, Hurray's Girl Beer – Ray traces her roots back to New England and her early career in the corporate world, with stints at J.P. Morgan and WeWork after graduating from college in New York City. She discussed how, at the onset of the pandemic, she stepped in to support operations for a local beverage alcohol brand and recognized a gap in the market: a disconnect between male-dominated beer branding and female consumers. Ray eventually launched Hurray's Girl Beer in 2024 and shares the uphill journey of pitching a new beer brand in a male-dominated, slowing market, and how she carved out a niche by courting an underserved audience. She recalls self-distributing cases out of a Toyota Camry to landing shelf space in 200 retail doors across Los Angeles and Orange County and how Girl Beer secured distribution at Whole Foods, BevMo, and Total Wine. Ray also details the pivotal relationship with an Anheuser-Busch-aligned distributor, which accelerated growth and expanded reach and why she believes the brand is on track for a breakout year in 2026. Brands in this episode: Hurray's Girl Beer, Shacksbury Cider, Woodchuck Cider, Magic Hat, Ben & Jerry's, Seventh Generation, Green Mountain Coffee, Poppi, Olipop, Liquid Death, Garage Beer, Surfside, Budweiser, Bud Light, Golden Road, Elysian, Busch, Heineken, White Claw, Truly, Bud Light Seltzer, Michelob Ultra, Friday Beers

One Sunday after church, I stood by my car before getting in and looked around me. Young parents busy getting their tired kids buckled in didn't give me a second thought; their minds on home and lunch and naps, all in short order. As cars and vans drove away, hands waved and I heard voices ring out, “So long!” and “Have a great rest of your day! Single in my 20's, in a new career, a new town and a new church, I felt okay, mostly. Life was full and purposeful, but lonely on occasion. I wondered why families didn't ask me over for Sunday dinner. The Bible says God sets the lonely in families. (Psalm 68:6) I was lonely. I needed to be set somewhere. I got tired of waiting. Listen to what I did and what you can do, too, if you are singng the Parking Lot Blues. PS Please feel free to send my your stories of feeling lonely in a crowd. I'd love to share it on the podcast or in the newsletter. It can remain anonymous.   Email me: sue@welcomeheart.com  Some gems from the parking lot blues: Mom's hospitality radar, in good working order on most days, placed itself on high alert each Sunday morning. I needed family so I gathered some folks. Sometimes you just have to make it happen and not wait for someone else to pick up the phone or send a text. Loneliness is the feeling that no one is thinking about you, much less cares about you and what you're going through. We feel shame with loneliness and we know where shame comes from. Shame comes from the pit and God's children are not pit people. When these ladies met with me it was like Jesus looking through the window of my Toyota Camry to say, “Hey Sue, I see you and I'm coming over and we're going to make some changes where changes need making.” If you are feeling lonely at times, you are not alone. Make that call. I'll give you my recipe for apple crisp. It's a killer—for loneliness.   Mom and Aunt Joy at Sunday dinner (not lunch, not supper.)   Trishie's Best-Ever Apple Crisp   In a 7 1/2 x 11 glass casserole, mix together the following: (Trish says: “Mix in the baking pan and save washing a dish.” I wholeheartedly agree.) 5 large apples, peeled and sliced 1 t cinnamon 1/4 t nutmeg 1 t to 1 T lemon juice, depending on tartness of the apples 1 cup water   Topping In a medium bowl combine: 1 cup sugar 3/4 cup flour Cut in until crumbly: 1/2 cup firm butter (I use pastry cutter or box grater)   Spread topping over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Comfort food, simple and delicious. A welcome home is a fragrant home.

The Toyota Camry has been around a long time - a medium sedan that justseems to get more refined with each new model – built locally from 1987 to2017, imported since and fully hybrid since late last year like the rest ofToyota’s passenger car range. The current three model Camry sedan rangeconsists of the Ascent, Ascent Sport and SL models prices starting at$39,990 plus on road costs and running to $53,990. I tested the AscentSport $42,990. And what an exceptional car this is – frankly having notdriven a Camry for some time I came away impressed with its refinement. Before I get into the performance, the build quality, styling elements anmaterial inside of this medium sized sedan felt more like Toyota’s luxurybrand Lexus. Sedans may not be in vogue, SUV’s, last month reaching 60.5per cent of total new car sales, however the Camry Ascent Sport at $42,990is outstanding value – there’s a lot of equipment for that money, the interiorclassy and roomy with a restyled dash and centre console while overallToyota’s fifth generation hybrid system is quieter, smoother, more fuelefficient in a body that now has real character.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As I said earlier, this latest Camry has more of a feel of Toyota’s luxurybrand Lexus. Sedan’s may not be on your radar but for those that like asedan over an SUV the Camry Ascent Sport will not disappoint.Serviceability and reliability have always been a Camry high point – I wasrecently in a Camry hybrid taxi that had covered 440,000km still on itsoriginal engine and transmission, still on its third set of brake pads. Thelatest hybrid powertrain impressive – i managed 4.4L/100km, the onlydownside perhaps the needs for 95 octane unleaded – the hybrid systemsmooth, exceptionally quiet and responsive. Five-star safety plus a stack ofactive safety elements, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone charging.Dislikes the small 7-inch instrument display, the top line SL model gets a12.3-inch unit while the steering wheel controls could be more userfriendly. Otherwise, a very refined sedan for the money.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The automotive landscape is rapidly evolving beyond traditional gasoline engines, and navigating the options can be overwhelming. Alex Kwanton from US News joins us to break down their 2025 Best Hybrids and Electric Vehicles awards, revealing which electrified options truly deliver value, performance, and efficiency without compromise.Remember when buying a hybrid meant settling for a tiny, underpowered econobox? Those days are gone. The Toyota Camry—now exclusively offered as a hybrid—leads the pack with an impressive 44-51 mpg while costing thousands less than competitors. It's joined by standouts like the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Lexus NX Hybrid that blend efficiency with genuine driving pleasure. The electric vehicle conversation takes us from the astonishing 512-mile range of the Lucid Air to the genuine off-road capability of the Rivian R1S. We explore how these premium offerings justify their price tags through groundbreaking technology and luxury experiences. Meanwhile, more accessible options like the distinctively designed Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 prove that compelling EVs exist at various price points.Perhaps most surprising is our discussion of the F-150 Lightning, which continues to prove that electric trucks can deliver on the promise of traditional pickups while adding benefits like instant torque, quieter operation, and significant energy savings. For those not ready to go fully electric, we examine how plug-in hybrids from Mazda and Volvo offer a compelling middle ground with meaningful electric-only ranges.Whether you're considering your first hybrid, curious about electric vehicles, or simply want to understand where automotive technology is heading, this episode provides invaluable insights into the vehicles leading the charge toward a more efficient future. Cass argues that while tariffs and reindustrialization may be sound concepts, the Trump administration's implementation has been completely counter-productive. They discuss how traditional right-of-center thinking on free trade has evolved, questions whether China's integration into global markets has delivered promised benefits, and explores the regional winners and losers of trade agreements like NAFTA.Cass tackles questions about America's trade deficit, consumer willingness to pay more for domestic products, and whether reshoring manufacturing is practical for the American economy. The conversation examines the national security implications of trade agreements, the potential for losing allies to China's influence, and what realistic reindustrialization might look like in today's economy. Finally, Chuck answers listener questions on the executive branch's guardrails, expectations for "Resistance 2.0," potential federal intervention in college sports, and whether media scrutiny of public officials' backgrounds has gone too far.00:00 Introduction02:00 If tariffs actually are a good idea, the way they've been implemented hasn't given it a chance to succeed03:30 The administration is only interested in communicating to their base07:30 What should we take away from Mike Waltz being removed as national security advisor?08:55 Marco Rubio is now holding four jobs in the administration09:45 Rubio has earned Trump's trust13:15 Is the new model to move staff to new roles rather than fire them?15:15 Abigail Spanberger may have had the best 100 days of any Democrat17:55 Wes Moore announces he won't run in 202820:35 Oren Cass joins the Chuck ToddCast! 22:35 Tools for achieving re-industrialization 23:35 Tariffs and reindustrialization is a good idea, Trump's rollout has been disastrous 25:35 The U.S. needs credible and sustainable trade policy 27:20 Right of center thinking for 40 years was simply "Free trade is good" 29:05 Has free and open trade been a net positive worldwide? 30:35 Does trade policy of the early 20th century make sense in the 21st century 32:20 Bringing China into the world market didn't lead to liberalization 33:50 Will we be forced to cut an unfavorable trade deal with China? 36:35 Wouldn't it make sense that the US had a trade deficit based on our consumption? 38:35 If we aren't selling other countries goods we produce, they buy our assets and debt 40:50 NAFTA produced winners and losers regionally in the United States 41:50 What could we have done differently to minimize the negative impacts of NAFTA? 44:35 Production has shifted from country to country based on lower costs 46:05 Will American consumers actually be willing to pay more for American made products? 48:50 How can we unwind globalization without severely damaging the U.S. economy? 50:50 The Toyota Camry has more American made parts than the Detroit built cars 52:35 Does reshoring low-cost manufacturing make sense for consumers and American businesses? 53:50 Will poor implementation of policy hurt the goal of reshoring manufacturing? 56:35 How do you weigh the benefits of national security provided by trade agreements? 1:01:05 Does America risk losing allies to China's sphere of influence? 1:02:05 Should our allies get a better deal than those that are unaligned or adversarial? 1:04:15 Does more trade equal less war? 1:07:05 What type of reindustrialization is realistic and what isn't? 1:10:05 Lack of competition has led to problems with Boeing 1:12:35 How long will it take to reindustrialize? 1:13:35 Would TPP have furthered the goal of isolating China?1:16:35 Chuck's thoughts on the interview Oren Cass 1:17:27 Ask Chuck 1:17:35 Were the guardrails on the executive branch always this frail? 1:20:35 What do you expect out of Resistance 2.0? 1:21:30 Will the federal government intervene in college sports? 1:22:50 Does the media go too deep into the background of public officials prior to their public service?(Timestamps may vary based on advertisements)

Plus, we talk about a unique $0 down and $0 monthly payment Fiat lease as well as reflect on some of our most memorable moments.Show Notes with links:Hybrid electric-gas cars had a banner year in 2024, achieving record sales. With a shift in buyer demographics, these vehicles bridged the gap for consumers seeking efficiency and practicality without fully committing to electric vehicles.A shift from early adopters to budget-conscious shoppers drove hybrid demand. Many buyers appreciated the lower costs and simpler integration into daily life compared to EVs.Here are 2024's top 10 best-selling vehicles. 10. Chevy Equinox. 9. Honda Civic 8. Nissan Rogue 7. Toyota Camry 6. Toyota Corolla 5. Tesla Model Y (only true EV on the list) 4. Chevy Silverado 1500 3. Honda CR-V 2. Toyota RAV4 1. Ford F-150 (America's best-selling vehicle for 47 years, with 20% of buyers opting for the hybrid version)The top three all have hybrid options that did especially well this year, and about half of all RAV4 and CR-V sales are hybrids, according to Edmunds.“Hybrids this year became an extremely easy default decision for someone who doesn't want to go full electric but wants basically 70% or 80% of benefits” said Ivan Drury of Edmunds.Who says driving electric has to break the bank? A Fiat dealership in Colorado pulled off the seemingly impossible: a lease deal on the 2024 Fiat 500e that truly costs $0 down and $0 a month. The deal covers a 27-month term, 10,000 miles per year, with just $1,300 in state taxes and fees due upfront.Larry H. Miller Chrysler-Dodge-Ram-Fiat Denver moved over 60 cars in three days, using over $15,000 in federal and state incentives, plus factory discounts, to enable this unheard-of lease offer.Colorado's state incentives decrease in 2025, and federal EV credits are under scrutiny, meaning deals like this are less likely in the future.David Gluckman of Car & Driver leased one of the cars, and commented on the dealership's challenges with such a unique agreement: “I was warned, apologetically, that there was a chance I might have to re-sign some of the paperwork because the dealer's computer system didn't know how to handle a lease with no payment… A funny formality: They still had to run a credit check to confirm my ability to (not) pay.”As we close out the year, we look back at some of our most memorable moments. Criminals keep coming up with new schemes to part car owners from their vehicles. In this video, you'll learn about yet another trick car thieves use to snatch your car from right under your nose. SUMMARY: According to the FBI's statistics, 2 cars are stolen every minute in the US. This adds up to almost 3,000 cars a day! According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the most targeted cars are the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Ford pickups, Chevrolet pickups, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Dodge pickups, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Impala, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The largest number of car thefts occur on Halloween, followed by Labor Day. On New Year's Day, the chances of losing your car are also pretty high. As soon as you get out of your car to get a closer look at this mysterious banknote, criminals will jump into action. They will get into your car and drive off at record-breaking speed. Walk around your car to check if anything is amiss before you unlock it and start the engine. One sure sign that you're in danger is an almost empty parking lot and another car parked next to yours with somebody sitting inside. A car thief may bump against your car to check if you have an alarm. Many car alarms are so sensitive that a loud motorbike or a rumbling truck can set them off. Some criminals cause car accidents on purpose. For example, they hit another car at the traffic lights. Sometimes you make the life of car thieves much easier without realizing it. Lots of people keep their spare keys inside their car or in a special magnetic box attached to the underside of their vehicle. Don't leave your spare keys inside your car! Keep them at home, or ask your family members or friends to look after them. And make sure there isn't a set of spare keys in your car that you know nothing about. The 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid is all that flash, but after testing it this week, we think consumers will really respond to its combination of versatility, fun-to-drive, and incredible fuel economy. The Environmental Protection Agency says it has a range of more than 600 miles on a tankful of gas. At the same time, Host Jack Nerad found it delivered excellent performance with more brio than you might expect. With a fresh design and a shift to hybrid-only powertrains, it now offers two hybrid configurations: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. We tested the 225-horsepower front-drive version and found that its acceleration more than met expectations. There's just something about electric motors' instant torque. Nerad will have a full report. More than 2,000 miles away, Co-Host Chris Teague was putting the battery-electric Volvo C40 Recharge through his test regimen. There is something perfect about the combination of fall colors, the Atlantic Coast, and the Volvo C40 recharge, and Teague will give us his conclusions. In the news this week, with somewhat curious timing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally opened an official investigation into Tesla and its Full Self-Driving software after years of studying the issue. Hmmm. What has changed? At the same time, Dodge assures us that the Hemi-V8 isn't dead yet. Despite its recent troubles, it has just proven this by introducing an all-new Durango SRT special edition. We'll have the details. Sorry, potential car buyers — the prime interest rate is down, but car affordability remains a big challenge, according to a just-released report from Cox Automotive/Moody's Analytics. We'll have more on that coming up. Kia has just introduced a new accessory made from ocean waste. We'll tell you more about that very appealing new product and share our thoughts. This week, our special guest is our very own Co-Host, Chris Teague. He'll tell us about his recent experience with his new Honda Prologue battery-electric SUV and the home charging system he recently had installed. If you are considering purchasing an EV, listen up for that segment. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Sam Smith is an award-winning journalist and a former executive editor of Road & Track magazine. We don't love racing for the nuts and bolts—we love it for what it asks of the meatbag at the wheel. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
