I’m a Capricorn and cool (= This’s a comedy podcast where I tell you the stories I adored so you can listen to at bedtime when you want to put aside the cares of the day. This season it’s mostly going to be the mystery genre~especially DETECTIVE STORIES! Stories from Agatha Christie the queen or the anime which is based off of the manga of the same name, DETECTIVE CONAN (Its creator Gosho Aoyama, imho, can stand shoulder to shoulder with Conan Doyle). So tune in each week for the original golden age of detective fiction!
The pod is now a weekly or biweekly podcast. It will cover a wide range of subjects —usually a few per episode. It's a great vehicle for ingesting a bunch of fun facts without spending too much time doing it. You know do it like how the children pricked up their ears when they heard the word "candy". This week: 1) meme dealer- (unsavory can skip) 2) modern self, psychological self 3) is sex the linchpin? Q&A 4) from other podcasts : child actors & OCD - obsession & compulsion. Etc etc See ya!
-2:00 Cali is Claire's... \“Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals.” - fake quotes xD enjoy - c
Catharsis, a Greek term that describes the feeling of emotional satisfaction you get at the end of a good story. Your novel should build emotional tension by putting its characters in tricky situations, forcing them to learn and grow, and then setting them against one last challenge. In those final moments, we see just how much their journey has shaped their lives, releasing that emotional tension in a rousing and memorable conclusion. Basically, catharsis makes reading feel good.
Grab a cuppa, get yourself on the sofa and tune in to this one: here I bore you with some terminology and give you some insights on how to root out the shady studies from the good ones.

Quote, “When we encounter a person who thinks as we do, who notices what we notice, who values what we value, who tends to respond to different situations as we do, not only do we experience a strong sense of affinity with such a person but we also can experience our self through our perception of that person. This is another form of objectivity. This is another manner of perceiving our self in the world, external to consciousness … The pleasure and excitement that we experience in the presence of such a person, with whom we can enjoy this sense of affinity, underscores the importance of the need that is being satisfied.” -Nate Branden.|| While Branden is specifically referring here to the basis for Romantic Love, it, nevertheless, applies to friendship, as well………. 22:08
It's been a while eh miss me? Here I'm going to read stuff to you. Or Better Yet!Let's play~*without-naming-the-book-what-are-some-of-your-favourite-quotes. - (Ok naming the books: 1. “anxious people” by Fredrick Backman 2. “Finders Keepers” by Stephen king (A little piece of whimsy// btw Stephen King's series of books featuring Holly Gibney, *chef's kiss* one of his finest characters created IMO) 3. “Gulliver's Travels”(scripts by BBC learning English). I was reminded that the most topical and insightful analysis of today's many “intellectual twists” is to be found in Jonathan Swift's account of the Academy of Lagado— it is nonsense standing on the shoulders of nonsense..

“Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.”, said Charles R. Swindoll. Just as other people's success has nothing to do with you, being happy for others has very little to do with others. The emotion you show is the emotion you'll continue to live with. (Of course, showing compassion and happiness can only stimulate positive emotions, which is a wonderful gesture, but that's it.) Ps “Until it is my turn, I'll keep cheering for others.”- Margielyn Didal is the epitome of Sportsmanship. My heart goes out to this athlete. #Olympics #skateboarding
First of all, let's go back to the concept of Olympism: “Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will, and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy of effort, the educational value of a good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.” - It is the epitome of the human spirit, what it is capable of. - One year delayed it may be, but the Tokyo Olympics is finally well on its way, offering much-needed solace. We all know that the Japanese government was able to go over lots LOTS OF hurdles and carry on with the biggest global sporting event is nothing short of a miracle. I personally was very ‘Meh' about it in the first place. But kudos to them. - Anyway just Thinking of everyone who has been beaten down by this seemingly NEVER-ending

‘Tang Ping' or ‘Lying flat'- The concept or lifestyle based on rejecting ambition, and being a cog in China including not getting married, not having children, not having a job, not owning property, and consuming as little as possible. Some other Chinese terms I mentioned in the ep.:1) the "9-9-6" culture: work culture that encourages people to work 12 hour days six days a week; 2) "Neijuan": a term commonly used to describe the hyper-competitive lifestyle in China; 3) “Fuerdai”- rich second generation. Someone who was born with a silver spoon.
“Jack of all trades, master of none" lol I'm going to start this long-overdue S2.
In this oldie, you will hear the 12-year-old me ranting about the things that irritate me the most in the world (including the oscars, certain celebrities, and starbucks xD) //just thinkin’- would be different if people actually knew how to be adults and work out the situation and know how to be wrong and apologize, but i guess we’re not ready for that lol Tune in and have a good wkend. love- C
To make it up for no updating last week. (ahem not me vibing on a Monday night on how much i love Justin’s Live performance of OFF MY FACE in Paris.)
someone said something like “Claire, 幸好你除了寫書和搞翻譯之外,還做我們pod’ s guest 也幸好你是你所欣賞的那種「心不化妝/精神不化妝」的人...” it reminded me of this episode I did in 2020. I know It's easy to say "you define your own worth" when you were never judge by the way you look.it's too idealistic to say that other people's judgement don't affect you when we live in a society with rigid beauty standards .. this particular episode is mainly my “answer” to a survey stating that 2/3 of the girls do not have high body-esteem because of the influence of the social media platforms such as Instagram.I think it furthers the conversation and brings awareness. So give it a listen.
Earth day week episode: time away from the city, time spent in nature, time spent with our best companions- I used to think how obvious this is —of course, deprivation from nature is a bummer. Who doesn’t know that? When our visual environment is just the soulless, overcrowded cities with straight lines, it messes with our perception and psychology; a lack of Vitamin D from sunlight makes people sad; how strange it was to me that people needed to see a physician for medical advice, when nature was free and plentiful. Fast forward to the present day, I no longer consider the point ridiculously obvious. After all, we are navigating a pandemic that has drastically increased our screen time and, for many of us, we are worn out and ground down from restrictions, global illness, and death. But I think more than ever we need to make earth day every day...
Here I weigh on in, whether I have extreme routines (?) whether routines can breed success by freeing up your mind...and if it’s all creating another form of status anxiety for the rest of us. And there’s a fine line ...buds, a fine line between habits and routine & OCD and being obsessive, if you’ve never thought about it .
Blood transfusion is this thing which can be a death sentence as well as lifesaving (so cool?) And I just learned that, Dogs have 12 different blood groups, so how do they cope when they need a transfusion? And if like horoscopes - there’s no scientific basis for a connection between blood types and personalities, then why, in parts of Asia, people would select romantic partners based on blood types? Did you know what “ブラハラ “ means? And why did I say, “Woe betide the type Bs".. tune in to find out!
Ever worried about returning to a pre-coronavirus world of F2F chitchat and packed social schedules? Maybe we have some advice for you.
The FIRST stage is set; the suspects are gathered...Time for Poirot to unveil the murderer! Not yet in this episode-this’s just part 1 of this particular case. A classic retell of the book on ‘The Mysterious Affair at Styles’, by the queen Agatha Christie! hope you enjoy~
It’s been 100 years since the publication of the Queen of Crime’s first novel, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles”– the book that introduced Hercule Poirot to the world. Hereby join me as I talk about what we love about the novel and there’s more content to come, I mean who wouldn’t wanna hear more of Agatha Christie’s timeless stories and her unique characters. Will keep you updated.
A little piece of whimsy, some light reading before bed. I always read before I sleep. It's the default go-to for sleeping. And lately it’s been Stephen King's series of books featuring Holly Gibney, one of his finest characters created that goes to sleep with me. (I.e. rereading ‘Mr Mercedes’. ‘Finders Keepers’. ‘End of Watch’. ‘The Outsider’. ‘If It Bleeds’. -Rec.!) and in the end I share a thankyou note/story from my recent journey.
This episode opens with my review on the adaptation of "little women"(so very glad that young women nowadays are introduced to these stories in this way. And how when adaptations done right could help young readers to open a book they might otherwise overlooked.) After that, TOTD “thoughts of the day”: the #FreeBritney movement! Have you watched the documentary? Honestly the documentary itself is not very good xD just O K but decent enough to spark much more in-depth discussion of the absolute misogyny that permeates Britney Spears’ rise and fall.. and we know there is still so much to fix. Enough said, give it a listen and have a nice weekend! Much Love- C
Reading excerpts from “anxious people” (a book/poignant comedy about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.- quote Goodreads. (- not because it’s such a wonderful book (it has the potential to be tho)
“Love receives quite a bit of attention in the psychological literature you know.."*me fell asleep on my dinner plate* Love love love ugh ~ If you find me reading or talking about love stories you know i'm running out of things to do at home—but it's ok! If you also just need a break from stresses and anxieties- come n listen to my voice lol Happy Valentine's Day 2021 detectives (;
Answered!I also addressed my own anxious thoughts&experiences and how important it is to keep tabs on your mental state on a regular basis. *****I have been watching horror movies for as long as I can remember. and i promised i would share some J-Horror recommendations.. So here's the list: 1. BATTLE ROYALE (2000) In a dystopian future, kids are killing each other, there’s a lot going on:bullets, crossbows, axes, and neck explosions. It’s like a teen slasher film but more than that, the characters and their relationships are surprisingly deep. 2. Ju-On: The Grudge(2000/2003) It stoked the fires of the early 2000s J-Horror wave. You must've watched or at least heard of it: the curse is contagious. If you enter the house, you're cursed. If you come in contact with a cursed person, you're cursed. And once you're cursed it's only a matter of time until the ghosts find and kill you. 3. Dark Water (2002) Although Dark Water suffers from a few horror movie-logic flaws, this is the first horror movie that made me cry actual human tears so there yu have it. 4. The Ring /リング/Ringu( 1998) ok let's have it, If you want to trace the trend of Western remakes (and general obsession with) Japanese horror movies, Ringu is your patient zero. it also paved the way for more sequels. Ahh you know how horror movies gave me trust issues: By the time I thought the movie was over and the evil was laid to rest — I finally let out that breath that I’d been holding for the majority of the movie. But it was all a lie. Because just when I thought Ringu was over, Sadako crawled of the TV set and killing a horrified Ryuji , the camera zooming in on his wide, panicked eyes. Many thoughts ran through my head as the scene took place... 5. Onibaba (really old): sex death and long grasss. Notable for Kiyomi Kuroda's eerily beautiful black-and-white cinematography, Onibaba is among the most visually striking Japanese films of its period(quote). i mean it crafts a horror movie that drills into the core of our humanity. 6. トイレの花子さん / HANAKO-SAN/school mystery/ Seven Mysteries (七不思議) is a common trope in Japanese schools consisting of supernatural stories and happenings in school. Kamome Gakuen also has a set of 7 mysteries. Out of all 7, Hanako is the 'boss'. It maintains balance in the relationship between supernaturals in the school and humans. *****The list doesn't stop here but i will ..just research for these amazingly well-made films, I thought I was going to pass out lol love always- C
