Lara and Carey finish out their current era of SUBS with the second book of Samuel, but first they talk Mickey Rourke's bizarre homophobia against JoJo Siwa in the Big Brother UK house, an update in Virginia Giuffre's Ringu journey, and a Beverly Hills apartment building locked in battle with a resident spreading poop-laden terrorism. Back in Samuel, King David mounts his quest against Jerusalem to take the crown of Israel for himself. Whether alienating his wife Michal with sober raving and stealing wives from soldiers, David does his best to stay in the Lord's good favor. But his greatest match comes in the form his Fabio-haired son Absalom, who schemes to steal his father's throne and turn him into the biggest cuck mankind has ever seen.   Chapters: 00:00 Coachella: Ass Out 07:01 Mickey & Jojo 24:36 Neighbor From Hell 31:18 SUBS 12 - 2 Samuel Relive the best moments of this iconic podcast by following the SUP TikTok. Hardware (1990), Death Machine (1994), and Event Horizon (1997) The 1990s are often thought of as a decade of dread for horror fans—not because of what was on the screen, but because nothing good supposedly came out of it. Or at least, that's the typical response. But as we continue down the path to Discover the Horror, we're starting to realize that what we remember about the past isn't always accurate—whether it's based on our own memories or what we were told. When you really dig into those ten years, there's actually a lot of great stuff that came out—even just here in the U.S. And when you look beyond to international horror, it gets even better. Browse through the list and you're bound to say, “Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.” In this episode, we decided to tackle that decade and picked three titles that, as it turns out, share some very similar themes. And we think all three are well worth watching. Films mentioned in this episode: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Batman Returns (1992), The Blair Witch Project (1999), The Boneyard (1991), Braindead (1992), Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), Candyman (1992), Cronos (1992), Day of the Dead (1985), Death Machine (1994), Dellamorte Dellamore (1994), The Descent (2005), Dr. Giggles (1992), Dust Devil (1992), Event Horizon (1997), Evil Dead 2 (1987), The Exorcist (1973), Faces of Death (1978), Freeway (1996), Goodfellas (1990), Godzilla (1998), Gravity (2013), Halloween (1978), Halloween H20 (1998), Hardware (1990), Hellraiser (1987), Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), High Tension (2003), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), Judge Dredd (1995), Jurassic Park (1993), Lord of Illusion (1995), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), Meet the Feebles (1989), Mimic (1997), Misery (1990), The Mummy (1999), Nightbreed (1990), Pulp Fiction (1994), The Princess Bride (1987), Reign of Fire (2002), The Resurrected (1991), Return of the Living Dead (1985), Return to Splatter Farm (2020), Ringu (1998), Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Star Wars (1977), Thelma & Louise (1991), The Thing (1982), Valentine (2001), Warning Sign (1985), Willow (1988)

Hollywood decided to break the curse by making a copy, and that's just what they did when they remade Ringu in 2002 for western audiences. But does this adaptation add more to the title than "The"? Actually, yes! In a Millennia Macabre first, we watched something good for a change. Unfortunately, we only have 7 days to relish it.

OK, we have finished up this arc of the Avengers Academy. A good capper for this series and the main story lines that have been running for the past 20 issues. Now it is on to the final two issues. The theme for this week is horror movies. I am going to see if I can think of a horror movie that each picture reminds me of. Ok. I am going with Night of the Demons. Something about the magic being wielded and a weird scene....I remember watching it in high school with a mess a friends during a Halloween party. And this one scene has stuck with me for years. Ok, maybe not horror as we know it today, but the first Terminator movie has some downright creepy scenes that stay with you. The Terminator in the hotel room dealing with is dying skin. Yucky. For some reason I am thinking about Scream and the first scene. Drew Barrymore wishes that she could have teleported out of that house. That would have saved the coroner a mess of work. Have you seen Godzilla Minus One? If you have not, you should. I guess it is more of a monster movie, or action even, but it is one heck of a show. It really puts you in the mindset of Japan after the war, and the terror of the unknown. What to say about The Ring or Ringu. It is a frightening horror movie that scared the pants off of us back in the late 90's. And the sight of the kid crawling through the TV just might be the creepiest thing ever. The most infamous stomach horror scene of all time is, of course, from Alien. I mean, what can you say. The situation has ended, the victim looks fine, let's have some laughs...OH MY GOD WHAT IS COMING OUT OF HIS STOMACH! Yeah, good times. In my opinion, one of the classic horror movies is Halloween. There is just a lot of perfect fear in that film, and there is a simplicity to it as well. The monster that just kills and has not feeling, and the ominous score. Chefs kiss.   And check out the bloody images on our website: https://jeffandrickpresent.wordpress.com/2024/06/09/avengers-academy-37-final-exam-part-4   We also have some merchandise over at Redbubble. Hello all you Ed-Heads, and Timbos. This week, we are joined once again by long time friend of the show Faustus to discuss the 1998 J-horror that kicked off Americas fascination with J-Horror... Ringu. What a fantastic movie it is, normally I am super turned off by spooky haunting horror, but Ringu has so much going on. So many subtle things in it, and layers of cultural, and interpersonal subtext. Now.... you're gonna die a week after you listen... unless you subscribe to our Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/bloodybits Follow our guest Faustus on Twitter Check us out on Twitter. me @eddietheaxe Tim @yobogold  Also, like, rate, and subscribe. Keith from Horror Convos joins Caitlin to discuss The Ring (2002), a groundbreaking J-horror remake that many of us found formative. We discuss all kinds of Ring-things: monstrous motherhood, cultural and psychological influences around fear, practical effects, architecture as a storytelling element, color theory, scores, performances, and more. Sillier tangents include: urban legends, breakfast foods, insects, "forever outfits," and a couple great Would You Rathers.

Over 25 years ago, the Japanese film, RINGU (1998), led a wave of horror films that took some sort of object and turned it into a talisman. Supernatural evil then begins to haunt or curse teenagers or college co-eds leaving many dead, and the remainder including the survivor girl being unable to ever escape the paranormal blight that follows them forever. The Australian film, TALK TO ME (2023), took the common trope and made it feel fresher than it deserved to be.Mia (Sophie Wilde) and her friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen) head to a house party where their high school friends have come upon an embalmed hand that can turn spirits corporeal for the person who holds the hand. When Jade's little brother Riley (Joe Bird) wants a try, things turn deadly as a curse leaves Riley injured and forces Mia into a conundrum that could ultimately lead to her death. Two new filmmakers, brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, directed this surprise A24 hit. Receiving fairly impressive reviews from reviewers while being enjoyed by audiences, the movie made $92M USD at the box office against a budget of $4.5M USD. With its success, the film landed up on many top ten lists of 2023. Dark Discussions takes a look at this interesting film and gives their thoughts.

Don't we lose it all every seven days...well...WELL...This week, Matt and Cody are unkind (as usual) and rewind back to the 90's for one of the most influential Japanese Horror movies of all time. The boys pair off two at a time and cross the stormy seas to an inevitable eruption of names they can't remember, familial lineage they can't get straight, and veteran character actors they never want to forget. Not to mention: what really was on that tape in the manager's office, phone chats with bees, bangin' wigs, what was Yiochi watching and who was watching him, and how deep in the well they're willing to go themselves...and based on their jokes...you already know the answer. You don't even have to crawl through your phone to get to this week's episode, but it would help if you're already soggy. Thanks for listening!Socials/ March/ Contact: https://linktr.ee/nighthowlspod

Horror, like comedy, is subjective and personal. What disturbs or horrifies one person can harmlessly bounce off another. Case in point is this weeks selection in the Month of Pete. Dark Water is hailed as one of the seminal examples of J-Horror from the early 2000s along with the likes of Ju-On and Ringu. The dread and madness of the film that delighted Troy and Pete fell completely flat for Charlie and Nate. Even though Charlie and Nate wanted desperately for this movie to speak to them, the film just didn't. It's not that they didn't "get" it, it just wasn't their cup of tea. Troy and Pete do sing the films praises and the entire gang was split down the middle. Dark Water is a slow burn that never really has a climax but rather an ending that you will need to decide for yourself if it's satisfying.
