The day started normally enough and my guest was making an early start (7am) that Christmas Eve. She goes into the bathroom and suddenly everything goes black. The next thing she knows she is waking up out of a coma. During which she goes through 5 cardiac arrests, multiple organ failure, burst liver, 9 blood clots, collapsed lung, sepsis, pronounced brain dead. Jemma says she grew believing her dad was her hero. But when her mother died and left him to bring her up along with her 4 siblings, life changed. He was no longer her hero but a very strict disciplinarian. She felt bereft of the love she needed. Now she realises that, for her dad, putting food on the table and keeping the roof over their heads was his way of showing love. The tough discipline was his way of caring.
