“Anytime you start thinking the problem is out there, that very thought is the problem.”  In the last chapter of 7 Habits for highly effective people,  Stephen Covey shares some great stories and this impactful statement, there is a gap between stimulus and response. I share a few of those stories as well as a review of all of the 7 Habits.  I share the 21 effective practices that are used in the FranklinCovey workshops as well as highlight after each habit things that have really been working for me or have made a significant impact.  I share how thinking about a simple change in my language can change the way I look at what I am doing and how simply learning empathic listening has really helped me understand my kids a little better. It is a great review of all of the 7 Habits.  For more info go to www.findingthefloor.com/ep105

“This is the single most powerful investment we can ever make in life — investment in ourselves, in the only instrument we have with which to deal with life and to contribute.”  We have made it to Habit 7 - Sharpening the saw or Renewal from the book 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey.  In this episode I share the 4 different areas that we should take time to renew everyday: physical, spiritual, mental and social/emotional.  Stephen Covey calls it the  “Daily Private Victory” and I get into all four parts of what he calls the four natures or dimensions of our lives.  I share about my own practice of my daily private victory as well as a few things I need to work on. I also share what he means by intrinsic security and the importance of using this habit to develop that within ourselves.  A lot of good stuff and things to think, learn and then do.

“High performers cultivate joy by how they think, what they focus on, and how they engage in and reflect on their days. It's a choice.” - Brendon Burchard Everyone wants to be part of the elite, the top class, and I am sure you want to be one of them as well, but why aren't you? What is stopping you from being exceptional? Do you realize that the things you do every day can prevent you from being the achiever that you could have been? You have the power within you to excel, to supersede others, but most particularly your present self. You can be remarkable. Give thought to what I have to say and let the extraordinaire out of you and into the world who needs him. Highlights: ⚡️ A high performer is someone who excels by not only accomplishing beyond what people expect of him but likewise outperforming his previous best and going beyond his own expectations. ⚡️ A real high performer is driven by who he wants to become. ⚡️ To be a high performer, one must:          ~ Recognize the thin line between success and failure.          ~ Know the person he wants to be          ~ Build self-control          ~ Set big goals          ~ Practice confidence          ~ Let health come first          ~ Develop anti-fragility          ~ Be in the ongoing and never-ending pursuit of getting better Important stories:

“Is it logical that two people can disagree and that both can be right? It's not logical: it's psychological.”  Episode 103, I share my thoughts about Habit 6 from 7 Habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey.  Habit 6 is synergy and it combines habits 4 & 5 but it also includes a belief in the value of differences.  In addition it includes the idea that the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.  I talk of a synergistic fireside that I was involved with years ago.  I also share how this being a habit means it is something we can try to expect regularly if we strive to have high trust, think win/win and seek to understand then be understood. Synergy can relate both interpersonally as well as within ourselves.  For more info and resources go to www.findingthefloor.com/ep103

“In empathic listening, you listen with your ears, but you also, and more important, listen with your eyes and with your heart.” This week I am talking about Habit 5 from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey.  Habit 5 is to seek to understand then to be understood and I believe can really make a big difference with your family.  In this episode I share what Stephen R. Covey defines as empathic listening.  I also share a bit about his example of using our own autobiography as we listen and the helpful example of using the skills of rephrasing content as well as stating the feeling around the content. I also really love what this habit does to help give people psychological air.   Super grateful for this new skill to practice and have already been seeking to understand first before I begin to spew out my own thoughts about things.  It is great to be back after a little break and continue on with this 7 Habits series.  For more info you can also visit my website www.findingthefloor.com/ep102

You'll learn why it was selected to be part of the curated list of Book Insights, and what's new with the book or the author currently. This week, Tom and Karin offer you insight on: *Why Kevin Palmieri's favorite habit is "work for the win-win" and why he believes this the only way any business can be successful. *How having a long-term view and small daily habits can help you achieve your long-term goals. *How to move from reactiveness to proactiveness when it comes to achieving your goals and "sharpening the saw". Book Insights are formal, structured summary, analysis and exploration of a bestselling nonfiction book. Each episode is read by a professional voice actor and will introduce a new title selected specifically for its value to your work and life. Book Lounge episodes are casual discussions about the book, the author, and anything else that comes along through the course of conversation. It's more of a broad chat about how the book relates to current, everyday life. Should I listen to both the Book Insight and the Book Lounge episode on the same book? Sure! Each episode works fine as a standalone piece, so no requirement to listen to both or to listen in any particular order, but we definitely recommend (and think you'll enjoy!) both. Think of it like reading a book and liking it so much you want to chat about it on the porch with a friend. That is the vibe at the Book Lounge. Like what you hear? “Manage from the left; lead from the right”  This week, I go over Habit 3 - put first things first from 7 Habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey.  Habit 3 really gets into how you can practically put your two other habits into practice.  This Habit is about self-management which is a lot easier when you have your own mission statement and philosophy to follow. There are a lot of very good practical tips to help organize and plan your week, especially thinking about your week in terms of your roles in life. Habit 3 really helps pull habit 1 and 2 together in a very applicable way.

This week on The Kirk Miller Podcast you will hear Kirk discuss the 7 habits of healthy successful business people. Success leaves clues. Despite how busy entrepreneurs and business owners are their traits, habits, rituals and routines make them eat better, train better, be more effective and more productive.  Successful people all have a distinct morning routine. They live by the phrase “win the morning, win the day”. What you do in the morning is the catalyst for how your day will go. By focusing on your mind, body or both first thing in the morning you work on your own personal agenda before anyone else's. Kirk explains why you should journal daily as it is a key part of personal development. It reminds you of your motivation, mission and purpose. It will make you evaluate things better and be more grateful for what you have.  Kirk highlights the strengths of having a night time routine. You finish the day on your terms. Highly successful and healthy people schedule for the day ahead of them by planning for exercise, meals and everything in between. Consistency in all these areas of life will lead to these habits becoming automatic behaviours making you more organised, focused and disciplined. You will learn:  The power of morning routines Why you should work out first thing in the morning Why you should journal How important sleep is  What you need to do to be more successful For more information on what was discussed in this episode head to https://kirkmiller.co.uk/programme/ The Kirk Miller Podcast is the show for business leaders and peak performers to get into the best physical and mental shape of their lives and unleash from within confidence they never thought possible.  This show is about giving you the unfiltered truth, telling you exactly what it takes to get - and more importantly stay - in unbelievable shape.  “If you were at your own funeral, what would you want people to say?” Habit two, from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, is to begin with the end in mind.  Like picturing what your family or friend might say at your funeral. Stephen R. Covey helps to explain this concept by also explaining about everything having two creations, a mental and a physical.  I explain those two ideas and then get into the notion of writing your own mission statement.  With that concept there is a need to get to a deeper level to understand your center and what drives your security, guidance, wisdom and power.  As I try to share these concepts I also share a situation I had with my daughter this week in which I wished I had begun with the end in mind.  For more information come by www.findingthefloor.com/ep097

Do you ever wonder what makes some speakers super successful?Have you ever sat in an audience or in a group in awe of a speaker and pondered “How did she do that?” The answer is: through a lot of work!BUT don't let this discourage you. Stick with me through this episode because there's lots of good news ahead!!There are some “freaks of nature” out there who are naturally gifted at speaking, probably less than 1% of the population, but most of us have to work really hard at it.My first few speeches were the stuff of horror movies.  As an introverted, private and shy person, I was the least likely person to become a public speaker or presenter. I remember the first time I was handed the microphone to speak on stage. It was not pretty. It felt and I'm sure looked like a train wreck from those watching. I felt sorry for my audience. But over time, with every speech, I got better and better. How did that happen? I can tell you one thing, not by accident. Here are two things I did right away to ensure I continued to improve my speaking skills.I started to observe the habits of highly successful speakers.I put those habits into practice over and over again. How to know if this episode is for you:You want to be intentional about continually improving your communication skillsYou often have to speak to groups of people, do online videos or speak on stageYou want to be effective in getting your message across to your audienceNow, let's listen! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Are you ready to take your charismatic talk and presentation to more audiences and stages resulting in “Oh...My...Wow” reactions?

“Response - ability” the ability to choose your response. This week I talk about habit 1 - to be proactive from the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey.  Being proactive has many different facets.  First I cover the unique human capability to have self-awareness.  Then thanks to the work of Victor Frankl the idea that between stimulus and response we have the ability to choose.  I share this idea that to be proactive includes being responsible - the ability to choose our response.  Then there are lots of other little ideas and ways we can think of being proactive.  First I mention being aware of our language.  The other concept within this habit I discuss is our circle of influence versus our circle of concern.  Then I briefly share the idea of the have's and the be's as well as moving toward being more proactive by keeping commitments to ourselves and to others.  With this concept we can  learn to be led by our values and character rather than our moods.  Come and listen as I share some stories about my calendar, my mom circle of influence and a walk a thon.  For more info and sources see www.findingthefloor.com/ep096
