We’re Nayla Bahri and Eric Johnson, and we love to talk about the intersection of life and work. Why? Most of us will spend more hours of our life working than doing anything else. The relationship we have with work, and the way we make meaning of our time and experience there, serves as a great platform to explore how we show up to the rest of our lives: relationships, family and parenting, our health, our hobbies and interests, and our general attitude towards the human experience. With insights and observations pulled from our leadership and career coaching, teaching and consulting work, as well as the most relevant research across fields, we’ll talk about the ideas that really impact how you experience work – and your life – and actionable strategies to make work work for you, from the inside out.

Their genuine conversations and insightful advice have been immensely helpful to me throughout all stages of my career journey. From applying and interviewing to working and transitioning, Nayla and Eric provide valuable guidance based on real-life experiences that truly resonates.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its perfect length. The hosts are intentional about what they include in each episode, ensuring that it is concise and packed with valuable content. This is greatly appreciated as it aligns well with busy schedules and allows for focused listening without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, Nayla and Eric's collegial relationship as a man and woman sets a great example for future workplace dynamics. It's refreshing to hear their collaborative dynamic, which adds an extra layer of relatability to their discussions.

The balance between personal stories, current trends, and academic insights in this podcast is nothing short of perfection. This approach keeps the content engaging and enriching, allowing listeners to gain practical wisdom while also considering deeper questions about their careers.

While it may be challenging to find any negative aspects about The Inside Job podcast, if there was one criticism, it would be that occasionally certain topics may not resonate equally with all listeners due to individual circumstances or specific industry considerations. However, this is only a minor drawback in comparison to the overall value provided by the podcast.

In conclusion, The Inside Job podcast is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking guidance on navigating the workplace effectively. We've all thought someone else was responsible for things going wrong, negative feedback we've received, deadlines getting missed, etc. when the real responsibility lay with us. Have you ever thought to yourself, “This job would be so much better if it weren't for the people?” When one of Eric's clients jokingly said this in a recent discussion, they shared a laugh about it. However, Eric later realized it's not only something he hears often from his clients, but something he's also said himself in the past. We thought it would be a good idea to dig deeper into this sentiment on the podcast, but we want to look at it from the perspective of having customers or clients. Businesses need them to be successful, but so many of us wish we could do business without them and the negative things they bring to our workday. This week's episode comes from recent conversations Nayla's had with two different friends who are experiencing a difficult year in their business and are wondering if it's time to close up shop. In fact, those conversations mirrored other ones she's had recently with her coaching clients who are unsure if it's time to move on from their current corporate role or not. Another form these questions about time can start with is, “Is there a right time to …” That version of the question can be finished with is there a right time to stay, is there a right time to go, or is there a right time to take action on something within the organization?
