Mastering the Inner and Outer Game of SuccessIn a recent episode of our podcast, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Noah St. John, a prolific author and founder of SuccessClinic.com. Known as "Doctor Noah," he has written over 25 books, including his latest, "The Seven Figure Expert." Dr. Noah specializes in helping entrepreneurs and business leaders achieve significant financial growth while reclaiming their personal lives. This episode delves into the dual aspects of success: the "inner game" and the "outer game."Dr. Noah St. John is a renowned expert in personal and professional development. His unique approach focuses on helping clients make more money in just 12 weeks than they did in the previous year, all while maintaining a balanced life. He challenges the conventional hustle culture that promotes relentless work without breaks, advocating instead for a balanced approach where business serves the individual, not the other way around. The inner game refers to the mental and emotional aspects of success, including mindset, beliefs, and emotional states that influence actions and decisions. According to Dr. Noah, a staggering 90% of success stems from mastering the inner game.A significant part of the inner game is what Dr. Noah refers to as "head trash," which describes the negative self-talk and limiting beliefs that hinder individuals from pursuing their goals. By recognizing the impact of head trash, individuals can begin to take steps to eliminate it from their mindset. Dr. Noah also stresses the importance of emotional motivation, urging people to concentrate on the emotions associated with their goals rather than just the material aspects. Additionally, he highlights the power of gratitude, sharing a personal story from 2007 when he faced significant financial challenges and realized the importance of focusing on what he still had. For those interested in diving deeper into these concepts, Dr. Noah's new book, "The Seven Figure Expert," is available for free (with shipping costs) at sevenfigureexpertbook.com.About Dr. Noah St. John:NOAH ST. Leadership is more than just holding a title; it's about guiding, inspiring, and managing people effectively. Often, new leaders find themselves promoted into roles without the right tools to succeed. How can we better prepare ourselves to excel in leadership, both internally and externally? In this episode, I have Chris Thyberg, Founder of The Serving Way. Chris and I discuss the challenges of leadership, particularly when someone is promoted to a leadership role without the necessary training to manage and inspire effectively. We also explore the difference between the 'inner game' and 'outer game' of leadership. Elevate your leadership skills—listen now! --- Listen to the podcast here: The Inner and Outer Game of Leadership with Chris Thyberg Welcome to Action's antidotes, your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. How many of you out there have ever had a bad boss? And I say that because there's kind of two different kinds of bad bosses in my view. There's the person who's just not able to tame their ego, that can be a little bit psychopathic, sociopathic, but then there's a broader category of kind of more low-key bad bosses that kind of arise because, well, oftentimes, we promote people who are good at doing the day-to-day job, who are good at delivering the results but not necessarily the ones that are best suited or even training them on how to be a leader of people, which is an important caveat, and so when we look at that category of bad bosses, one thing I want to impress upon you is that it's oftentimes not those people's fault, they were never given the training to learn how best to inspire people, how best to manage people, how best to cultivate a positive and joyous work environment for the people working for them, all they know is how to do the day-to-day job and they did it well. To talk about this topic a little bit, I'd like to introduce you to my guest, Chris Thyberg, who is the founder of The Serving Way and a leadership coach. --- Chris, welcome to the program. Stephen, thank you so much for having me and what a great setup. I need you to write copy for my website, please. That was just on point. Well, my production team does produce a transcript of every episode so when this episode does drop in a few weeks, it'll come in on the page on my website. It's a delight to be with you. Let's go. All right, well, that's wonderful. So, Chris, it sounds like you're observing the same phenomenon. We talked a little bit about how there are some people who are just psychopathic or haven't tamed their ego but this broader category of people where they just weren't set up to be good bosses, good managers, good leaders, because the training you get when you get promoted doesn't really emphasize that. That's exactly right, and as I joked with you on the pre-show, as long as that keeps happening out in the marketplace, I have employment for life. Every single client that I am working with is in that in-between space. I call it the growing edge, where more of what got them there is not going to take them where they need to go at this level of leadership. So, for example, the star individual performer with super high competencies, expertise, skills, experience, knowledge, what I call the outer game of leadership, great, great. And then they get that promotion, almost like the bridge too far, and they are on the other side of this thing and they say, “Oh my gosh, I just got a 360 performance review and everything I built my identity around that I got promoted for is now what my team tells me is killing us. What do I do?” And they come to me in that place of how on earth did I get set up for this failure and I said, “No worries. This is the human condition. You are fine.” You are at a growing edge, which means, and I truly believe this and every coach worth his or her salt must come from this point of view, this point of view is that, Stephen,
In this episode of the ‘‘Porn to Purpose'' podcast, Yeadon and I break down the inner and outer game in recovery from porn addiction. We discuss how technology, accountability, and emotional resilience work together to build a strong recovery framework. While limiting access to triggers is key (outer game), it's just as important to tackle the emotional and psychological reasons driving the behavior (inner game). We also share personal stories and strategies that have helped us, like using tools such as Covenant Eyes, building accountability systems, and focusing on emotional intelligence to address deeper issues. Top 10 Show Highlights: [00:12] Introduction to today's episode theme: Inner Game vs. Outer Game. [01:23] Matthew discusses his recovery framework and how technology plays a role in limiting access. [03:45] The importance of balancing supply (outer game) and demand (inner game) in recovery. [06:15] Yeadon shares how accountability software helped initially but didn't address underlying emotional issues. [08:45] Matthew emphasizes the importance of community support in developing a recovery framework. [10:33] Yeadon talks about teaching his sons about technology's impact and emotional resilience. [12:27] Why it's important to work on the demand side through inner work like meditation and journaling. [14:19] A discussion on how emotional wounds and trauma affect behavior and recovery. [16:42] How Victor Frankl's philosophy of choice between stimulus and response applies to porn recovery. Guest post by Paolo Gallo, who is a recognised Global Expert in Professional and Personal Development, Human Capital, Future of Work, Leadership, and Energy Management, and an ICF-certified Executive Coach. He is the author of a new book called The 7 Games of Leadership. Do we need another book about Leadership? Really? That is a fair question when you get 2'870'000'000 results by Google "Leadership book.": Try it yourself, it is scaring. The point is that most leadership books are usually "framed" in Four categories. First one: what a Leader does (or should do); second: what makes a Leader, filled with personal attributes at times difficult to reconcile, such as "A Leader must have a long-term perspective while being able to run a profitable company every quarter." The third category is" How a Leader should operate", emphasizing tools and methodologies, and the last category last is the "hero" story: a Leader who, against all odds, has been able to "win". How to use the 7 Games of Leadership The 7 Games do not belong to any of these four categories; I am sorry to disappoint. But - wait - if it is not "that", what is "The 7 Games" about? Leadership is a journey of never-ending personal development, so the 7 Games explain and describe each phase (I call them Games) of your personal development, the necessary path to Leadership. Being a Leader it is neither a title nor a finishing lane. It is an inner meaningful journey of self-development, both personal and professional. To me, it is the most exciting journey of our lives. What do we mean by personal and professional development? How can we growth as people? What defines true success, a meaningful life? The 7 Games of Leadership: navigating the inner journey of Leaders focus on these powerful questions. After proving an overview of seven megatrends that are reshaping our lives, and the lives of our families, communities and countries, I emphasize the need to develop our contextual intelligence, how we connect the dots and our capacity to understand and master transformation without being derailed by frequent W.T.F. moments. We will then learn to play and understand the 7 Games, the sequential 7 phases of personal & professional development. Game 1: the Inner Game. The quest to fully understand why you are here, finding your true inner voice. What are you good at? Game 2: the Better Game: how can we improve, gain credibility and earn a reputation? Game 3: the Caring and Outer Game occurs when we grow as individuals and we care - responsibly - about others. We 'open the windows' by understanding the bigger picture, by developing contextual intelligence, the capacity to connect the dots, anticipate rather than react. See opportunities. Game 4: the Crisis Game. How can embrace the necessity of a mid-life crisis? How can we steer our life in the right direction? How can we effectively shape a meaningful life transition? We then move to discover the energy and rebirth of Game 5. Reinvent yourself, because of a conscious personal decision not generated by external life- quakes. Game 6 is igniting a Revolution, the joy of giving, being of service, and the ultimate sign of wisdom. Last comes Game 7: Letting Go: it's a process that starts with healing, losing, quitting and then letting go. It's the ultimate success, the supreme sign of fulfillment, is returning home, it's passing the torch with graciousness. We then focus on a powerful question: how can you increase your professional value? What is new leadership model that in the new context that is unfolding so rapidly in front of us? The closing will offers reflections but never conclusions. We will learn from ancient and yet so modern philosophies, the difference between ghosts and ancestors and how we move from something toxic to something else, meaningful and impactful, in many different ways. Navigating the inner journey to become a Leader starts from you. Now. More about Paolo Gallo Paolo Gallo is a recognized Global Expert in...

In today's conversation, we explore a listener question about how much stress is enough stress, how we distinguish between ‘regular' stress and toxic stress, and how much we're responsible for our own experience of stress. When we recognize that stress is not inherently problematic, we can take time to reflect on the nature of the stress we're feeling and decide how we want to navigate it both internally and externally. This is a conversation about boundaries, self-care, self-trust, and asking for help when we need it. On my journey through life, I've always felt the pull of two worlds. On one hand, the life of technical, for the operational. On the other, the life of a seeker, with the feeling of a deep connection to something bigger than myself. These two worlds fueled a question how can we be successful at work and also be a good person? With my exploration of this question, I have strived to change work, (and the world) from the inside out.

The inner game is what drives our lives especially when it comes to relationships. We have to start understanding that if our inner game...mindset, beliefs, integrity, character, communication...isn't right then our relationships won't be right either. They won't be the loving and healthy relationship that you desire regardless as to if it's romantic or not. Fixing the inner game will take work and that's why I'm here as a Social Worker and Life Coach. I hope this episode finds you where you are and cultivated you. In this episode I talk with Mark Bristow, otherwise known as the Financial Healer, and Mark discusses how he helps people with their financial 'nett worth,' by helping them understand their own 'self worth.' He outlines how our own life stories impact the results we get and the techniques and strategies he uses to help people create a better future for themselves. This episode really is worth a listen even if you don't have money issues, the principles of what Mark talks about are relevant to all areas of our life and his work with people suffering from ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia, and also Anorexia is truly outstanding. The Financial HealerMark Bristow's latest book 'The Financial Healer' shows exactly how you can ‘Change Your Self Worth to Increase Your Net Worth.'Mark noticed that there were many people who understood the mechanics of saving money and not getting into debt, but were not putting these strategies into practice. His investigations led to the conclusion that it was people's attitudes to money that were at the core of the problem. Mark says that many people consciously want to save money yet subconsciously they sabotage the good work that they do.The solution is both straightforward and profound. The answer is to work on the unconscious beliefs that prevent us from accumulating money first. Once one's ‘Inner Game' is sorted out, the ‘Outer Game' of implementing financial strategies that work is so much easier. In the book, Mark reveals cutting-edge techniques that quickly transform negative associations with money into positive ones. Mark shows you, through a series of exercises, exactly what to do step by step. Once this Financial Healing is accomplished, the reader can effectively use the financial strategies of saving and investing for wealth.Running Away From MEMark's strengths in personal change techniques are reflected in his work as a coach to clients with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia. In 2011 Mark worked with Alison Christensen, who had suffered from ME/CFS – an illness the NHS asserts is incurable – for more than two years. Using his gentle techniques of EFT, NLP and Matrix Reimprinting, Mark not only gave Ali pain relief but allowed her to regain her energy and will to counter her debilitating symptoms. As a result of this experience, Mark co-authored the book ‘Running Away From ME' with Ali. The book is written for people suffering from a long term illness, chronic pain, or depression. It's equally applicable to families and close friends of those suffering and offers hope and an optimistic message. The book does not prescribe a miracle cure to ME/CFS or Fibromyalgia, but instead explores the journey of the sufferer. It details the real life issues that surround long term illness – money issues, depression, claiming support packages and trying to keep a family together. The book was written during the worst part of Ali's illness and describes in details the emotional and physical feelings that were happening at the time. It is a motivational story of how one person and their coach achieved this transformation in their life and how others can do the same. It will also give comfort to people who feel totally alone because of illness, disability or depression. In addition to his consulting work, Mark is a volunteer for the charity Love, Hope and Strength. In this role, he helps cancer sufferers to gain pain relief and a positive outlook on their life. With his assistance, Love Hope and Strength has access to a website with Mark's most useful personal change methodologies – for free.

Welcome back to our 3rd Day in a 5 part series on the 17 Wealth Files from Harv Eker. As I mentioned in previous episodes, I learned a great deal from Harv Eker and I really encourage you to get his book The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. It really was a turning point for me when it comes to developing a mindset for success. I have always enjoyed and valued personal development, but Harv had a great way of attaching the Inner Game to the Outer Game which made a lot of sense for me. And, as entrepreneurs and investors, I hope it will do the same for you. So let's go back and do a quick review of the first 5 Wealth Files we covered yesterday… Wealth File #1 Rich people believe “I create my life.” Poor people believe “Life happens to me.” Wealth File #2 Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose. Wealth File #3 Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich. Wealth File #4 Rich people think big. Poor people think small. Wealth File #5 Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles. This brings us to the next set of Wealth Files #6-11 that I want to talk a bit about today…. Wealth File #6 Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people. If you view (rich, successful) people as bad and you want to be rich you will never be rich… Why do we resent the rich… -comparison economy -our relationship with money -our beliefs about what it takes (that maybe we dont posses) *ultimately we rationalize our lack of success… In what ways do you do this in your business, relationships or life? Wealth File #7 Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people. You are the average of the people you associate with… How do you currently surround yourself with? Why do we do this…. -belief transference -positive energy -mentoring examples I encourage you to take a good hard look at who you surround yourself with. Wealth File #8 Rich people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion. People have a real problem with sales and promotion for many reasons… -bad sales experience in the past leaving a negative feeling -bad selling experience in the past with bad outcome -how you were raised…don't toot your own horn…don't show off… Bottom line is this…Leaders are promoters. Leaders promote themselves, their message, their purpose. Leaders create impact and make a difference. Wealth File #9 Rich people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems. Harv Principle, “the secret to success is not to try to avoid or get rid of or shrink from your problems; the secret is to grow yourself o that you are bigger than any problem.” Otherwise, you are not “growing”…you are not becoming all you are capable of. I understand it is painful and difficult, but it is essential to your happiness, fulfillment, creating impact and yes…a successful life. What part of your life are you struggling with right now that you might be shrinking rather than growing in? How can you lean into this and grow bigger than your problem? Wealth File #10 Rich people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers. One of the biggest things holding you bad is that you are bad at receiving…compliments, money, help, support… There are many reasons you may not feel worthy. We are not going to get deep into that today, but you need to realize this…..listen closely… Self Worth is not needed for NET WORTH…Let me tell you why…Because your idea of whether your worthy or not is just a “story you tell yourself” in the first place…The meaning we give things is just that…a meaning we gave it…not the truth or the end result. You can choose to change how you perceive yourself. Harv says in his book, “if you say you are worthy, you are. If you say you're not worthy, you're not. Either way you will live into your story.” So decide to be worthy and decide to be a good receiver. In order to be a truly good giver you must be a good receiver…that in turn will develop your self worth and your success in life. Wealth File #11 Rich people choose to get paid based on results. Poor people choose to get paid based on time. I'm going to end with this last Wealth File by encouraging you to… NEVER PUT A CEILING ON YOUR INCOME…NEVER Harv has always promoting the value of a good active income/job/etc, but don't let it interfere with your ability to create a higher net worth and increase yoru success. The real problem is that normally it does interfere. The best way to overcome the conflict and challenge is by owning your own business. A business (yes) can be like a job, but with the right business focus a business provides flexibility, massive tax reduction advantages and more importantly…it provides hope, freedom and opportunity a job will most likely not provide long term. Ultimate, find something that allows you to get paid for your worth, effort, and potential not just your time and you will become wealthy. I hope these particular Success Strategies will help you to really get in tune with your mindset and how you think about money…and every other area of your life. Thanks for listening today, and click that subscribe button so we can continue our journey together. Have an amazing day. George Wright III

The HerBusiness Podcast has reached 500,000 downloads! Thank YOU for being one of our wonderful listeners. Hey there. I was inspired to make today's focus Sharpening Your voice after reading Ann Handley's newsletter. Ann is the author of Everybody Writes, a digital marketing pioneer and the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs, the leading marketing training company with more than 600,000 subscribers. In her cleverly-named newsletter, Annarchy she was talking about this idea of Sharpening Your Voice. The message was not about saying more, but being more thoughtful about what you do say. Sharper. In this episode of the HerBusiness podcast I talk about not just sharing your voice, but Sharpening Your voice. And there's a big difference. Technology has made it easy for us all to speak, to Tweet, to write, to publish mountains of content, all with a few keystrokes and at the click of a button. Over the last couple of weeks, there has been a lot of turmoil in the world. I've personally received a lot of communications from brands who want to tell me where they stand on the significant issues. Unfortunately, many are sounding same-same and not offering any value or taking a clear stand. I've seen cliches and overused terms that don't really say anything. As marketers, as business owners — our job is to move people towards making a decision, to inspire and to lead people to change. Our voice is the primary vehicle we have to help us to realise those goals. But, the value that is uniquely ours won't be heard if we follow 'groupthink' and use a voice that is the carbon copy of our competitors' voices. Listen to hear: The mistake big brands are making with ‘karaoke-singalong’ copy Four ways that you can sharpen your voice How to be ready that people are ready to HEAR you Why true communication is evident by the response that you get How sharpening my voice has help grow engagement from podcast listeners Mentioned in this episode: Ann Handley’s Annarchy Newsletter MarketingProfs HerBusiness Manifesto Here are some popular recent episodes: Trusting Yourself More Nothing Compares 2 U Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance Playing the Inner and Outer Game of Business Success HerBusiness Facebook Page: https:/facebook.com/HerBusiness/ HerBusiness Network for Women Business Owners: herbusinessnetwork.com

When we play the comparison game in business, it only leads to frustration and disappointment. So what can you do to stay mentally strong when self-doubt creeps in? Any time we step outside of our comfort zone, we are vulnerable to failure, to criticism, to falling flat on our face. These feelings are made worse when we also start comparing our success and our progress with that of others. We look at someone’s successful sales promotion and maybe we feel bad about our sales. We look at their gazillion followers they have on social media and feel horrible about our small audience. We see them getting opportunity after opportunity and deem ourselves not as good. What’s wrong with me? We might ask. Or, maybe we feel great for them. We are happy to celebrate their success. And while we are celebrating them, we still ask: “Why can’t I have that level of success?” If you’ve felt that way, you’re not alone. Listen to hear: Why nothing compares to you How to move past the comparison game Why your unique talents and strengths might be being diminished The power of real statistics to show you your progress How to move from self-doubt into action and reflection Also mentioned in this episode: Prince - Original version of Nothing Compares 2 U (1984) Join the HerBusiness Network here Here are some popular recent episodes: Meant for More, with Lisa Sasevich Playing the Inner and Outer Game of Business Success How to Start a Daily Journaling Habit (and What to Write About) How Clarity Leads to Powerful Actions HerBusiness Facebook Page: https:/facebook.com/HerBusiness/ HerBusiness Network for Women Business Owners: herbusinessnetwork.com
If you are going to make the change to working for yourself, you can't just focus on the outer game... It can be tempting to just get caught up with the "busy busy" to do list of actions and ticking things off your list, but the reality is that this is a trap! The bigger and more influential game is managing your inner game... This episode was inspired buy conversations with a few clients this week and the Australian Open being on.... Tennis is such a great analogy for business and life because you can have the skills and the know how, but how you show up, how you respond on the day, in each moment has a massive impact on the results... So yes working on the practical things is important - you have to take action, build your skills and competence on all the surface level stuff.... But can't only focus on that... Because whilst those things are important and need to be done - they are not the whole game and only focusing on them can leave you unprepared for the inner stuff that can and will come up. In this episode Shandra shares: Something a family member said early in her first business that she was unprepared for, and the impact it had a couple of recent client stories and examples to show how your inner game is linked to your outer game and results Ideas for how to focus more on your inner game "Your inner game dictates your outer game" -Fabienne Frederickson - American Millionaire mompreneur and author Thank you for listening!
