Over the last few months, users of Facebook and Instagram may have noticed a new avenue to interact with the platform: Meta AI. The AI tool, similar to language learning models like ChatGPT, X's Grok, and Microsoft's Co-Pilot, is able to carry forward advanced conversations with users and synthesize complex answers based on prompts. Meta has leveraged its AI model to create a wide array of chatbots. Some are officially sanctioned by Meta and feature the voices of celebrities like Kristin Bell and John Cena. Others are created and customized by users. Two weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that they had had hundreds of test conversations with these chatbots over several months. They found that Meta had not prevented some of these chatbots from engaging in sexually explicit conversations with users, even with minor users. In addition, some of these chatbots were based on characters that are themselves minors. This does not appear to be an accident on the part of Meta. Guardrails appear to have been removed or never put in place, with the aim of making the chatbots as engaging and addictive as possible. This is just one example of the challenges that Big Tech and AI have placed before the American people. In 2019, Pam and her husband Gary were about to be empty nesters when she saw a story on Facebook about a sibling group of seven whose parents were killed in a car crash. They were desperately needing a family who could keep them all together. It was then that she and Gary made the life changing decision to become new parents again after raising five of their own. Later, their adoption story went viral with an Instagram video that got shared by Kristin Bell and Michael Buble, among many others, propelling her following to more than 100,000 virtually overnight. Their story was featured in People Magazine and Pam has been a guest on Kate Hudson's podcast and Jada Smith's talk show. With her new found platform, Pam is strong advocate in the foster care space and guides others on all things related to foster parenting and adoption. Pam's heart is to give kids in foster care the best home they can get and stresses the role of love in the process of healing. She talks about her experience of being a foster and adoptive mother and shares about the need to learn and seek help continuously. Mark and John Cronin are a father-son entrepreneurial duo. They're the founders of John's Crazy Socks, a unique sock brand that's been featured by celebrities and influential figures such as George H.W. Bush, Eva Longoria, and Kristin Bell. He introduces us to what is meant by the term “People of Global Majority” (PGM) and what that means for Ethnic Casting and Diversity in VOs. He is the creator of the PGM VO List that currently has 1.8k voiceover actors of global majority and 180+ production companies, talent agents, and casting directors that use the list in their search for diversity. He tells us why he thinks the genre of dubbing is one of the hardest things to do as a voice actor and talks about his involvement in the global phenomenon that is Squid Game. We get the insight on authentic casting for the series and how the PGM VO List enabled casting directors to cast dubbing actors of Asian descent and Korean descent to reflect the cast of Squid Game itself. It also helped with the performances ensuring they capture the subtleties and nuances within the cultures of the series. Jennifer Sun Bell is an award-winning actress, singer and voiceover actor who is passionate about giving a voice to the unheard stories of this world and of our imagination. Being mixed, Korean and American, she found there were so many silenced voices and stories that needed to be shared.
