It's not you, it's me. That line doesn't just apply to romantic relationships. If you're noticing you've had a problem with just about every supervisor or manager you've had, then it might be time to look inside to see if there's some work to be done on yourself. We've spent a lot of time talking about how to manage people better, but not a lot of time talking about how to become more manageable. We figured it was time to finally address this on the podcast because, not only is this topic one that comes up regularly in coaching sessions, but it's one that Nayla has some personal experience with. What's wrong with me? Why do I always do this? Why can't I get done what I need to get done? How do I regain all the time I've lost? A lot of us have good ideas and tools for how we can use our time more productively, and yet we often find ourselves wringing our hands in despair and questioning ourselves and where our time has gone. There's such a sense of guilt and shame that comes from not being as productive with our time as we think we should be. The problem is that guilt and shame do nothing to help accomplish the things we set out to accomplish. So, instead, we're focusing today on how to evaluate what's stopping you from being as productive with your time as you want to be and the strategies that will help you regain your time… and, in Nayla's case, maybe even a little sleep in the process. It is possible to have the “perfect” job and a fulfilling relationship with your job.  Whether you have been in your position for a day or 30 years, you will benefit from this honest and enlightening conversation about pursuing a position that meets your needs. Success can be measured in many ways and today you will hear how to experience more satisfaction in your career choice. You won't want to miss this podcast.     IN THIS EPISODE: [1:40] Nayla discusses how her business coaching differs from others [6:09] Start with ‘What do I want or need' not what company do I want to work for and then ask other critical questions [11:52] The lies we tell ourselves [16:22] Upward mobility vs. personal desire or preference  [22:00] The importance of networking [30:00] Pier pressure vs. misalignment of the job, vs. success [42:13] Achieving your goals KEY TAKEAWAYS: There are many types of career coaching. The style of today's guest is to know yourself before you can find the “perfect” job.  That is achieved by self-awareness found by asking the right questions of yourself through coaching. It is very easy to fall into the trap of traditional success.  What is expected of me?  What does my position say about me?  Instead, seek the position that gives you a fulfilling career and life. Most people need to work.  It may as well be at a job you enjoy.  There is vocabulary that is bantered around which may leave a detrimental impression when one is seeking a career move.  Focus on words, people, and thoughts that leave you inspired, not discouraged.     RESOURCE LINKS: SYCK -  Podcast Nayla Bahri - Facebook Nayla Bahri - Linkedin Nayla Bahri - Twitter Nayla Bahri - Website Nayla Bahri - The Inside Job Podcast   BIO: Dr. Nayla Bahri is an executive coach, educator, facilitator, and co-host of The Inside Job Podcast. The goal of prioritizing isn't to create a better list. We question the assumptions and biases that lead us to overcommit, how the “post-it-note” method/massive to-do list might be a casual disregard of our time, and the critical questions to ask yourself to add more awareness of what is and what should be on the “list”.   To learn more about the ideas and resources discussed in this episode, us and our work, and to join our mailing list, visit the show notes.   You can continue the conversation with us through our new, free, online Inside Job Podcast Community, which you can find here: https://insidejobthecommunity.mn.co/feed      Inside Job is brought to you by Nayla Bahri and Eric Johnson.
