We are twin brothers who grew up "Atari" or as we call it, in The Vertical Blank. The Vertical Blank is space between the lines. It's the where work occurs you never see on screen. It's the nuances that makes nostalgia real. It's the transcendental location that holds our best memories, big…

The Into The Vertical Blank: Generation Atari podcast is an excellent show that delivers great content every week. As a fan of Atari gaming and that generation, the "vertical blank" theme that ties into various facets of Atari gaming resonates deeply with me. The interviews on this podcast are fantastic, and the fact that the hosts are game designers themselves adds credibility and insight to their discussions. Every story they tell mirrors my own childhood experiences in some way, making it relatable for many listeners. This podcast truly embodies why podcasts were created.

The best thing about this podcast is the emphasis on the Atari 7800. As a fan and aspiring 7800 homebrew programmer myself, I am eager to hear where this show is headed in terms of exploring this specific console. The stories and interviews are unparalleled, making it one of the best Atari-specific gaming podcasts available. I hope they continue for many years to come.

However, one aspect that could be improved upon is the lack of focus on other gaming platforms such as Intellivision. While this podcast primarily focuses on Atari, as an Intellivision fan from back in the day, I would love to hear more discussions or interviews related to this platform. Nonetheless, the stories and memories shared in each episode are a joy to listen to, evoking a sense of nostalgia for life in the '80s.

In conclusion, the Into The Vertical Blank: Generation Atari podcast is one of my absolute favorites. The stories and memories shared by these twin brothers bring back so many fond memories of growing up during that era. The emphasis on family dynamics and their father's involvement in their gaming experiences adds an extra layer of depth to their storytelling. This podcast appeals not only to gamers but also to anyone nostalgic for life during the '80s. Keep up the excellent work!

S5:e6 Atari ST Halcyon Days of 1989 Part 3: Atari ST Gaming Gems Our favorite 1989 Console Style Games for the ST We had an ST when most of the other kids near us had various consoles. We knew our machine could play superior RPGs, Simulations, and Adventure titles, but how did it hold up against the 8 and 16 bit console games of the day? Some ST console-like games were as good, some were not. We've chosen 20 console style games from 1989 for the ST to highlight and talk a little about, but before we get to those we’d like to highlight, let's first look at a list of the top 10 games in all genres from 1989, based on our ratings. To make these lists we played every single game that has a 1989 release date in Atari Mania’s database, and ranked them based on Sound, Graphics, Game Play and Addictiveness, usings scores of 1-10, then averaged those scores to come up with a rating. The following list is how the numbers worked out for a top 10. It’s all subjective + math, but we did play all of the games from the year to be certain we were ranking them against their contemporary competition. S4:E10: Atari ST Games the Early Years In this Episode, we cover the Atari ST, released in 1985 and what we consider to be the best "launch" titles for the system release in 1985 and 86. Of course these are not necessarily Launch Titles as computers rarely have them, but our favorite early years ST games. We have gone through all of the Atari ST games released before 1987 using the excellent atarimaina.com database. We consider the first 18 months of the ST’s life as the launch period before most of the big games started being developed and huge European software houses began to flood the market with games. This is the list of games we recommend that the new Atari should re-release on a pack for the VCS and re-make as new games if possible. We purchased our 520 ST in January of 1987 and had access to most of these titles. It would be another year before we would start getting a lot of new UK and European games, and we’ll cover those later, but these are what we feel are the best in various genres for the ST during our pivotal move from 8 to 16 bit gaming. There are more we could add to the list and your list might vary. Let us know if if we missed any of your favorites. The Atari 400 was a games machine masked as an entry-level computer computer. When it was released in 1979, it could play Atari’s killer-app “Star Raiders” just as well as it’s more serious, older brother the Atari 800. At the same time, the Atari 400 acted as a gateway for many kids to the world of programming. In this episode we explore how we were first introduced to the Atari 400, the first few amazing games we played on it, and how it sparked dreams of being a computer programmer. This is not a regular episode. Today we talk about our sister Mari (Marz) who passed away at her home in early April. Marz was our older sister, teacher and protector and also our game playing companion. We talk about grief and how sometimes memories of life events are intertwined with games in ways we just don't fully understand. We also have a very nice story contribution from Tony Longwoth and of course a new Tony Tune and new from the Into The Vertical Blank Scene.
