Hosts Dave Bossert and Aljon Go review Disney's Jungle Book live-action film, Marvel Studios vs Scarlett Johansson, and chat with Rob Camp, animator, writer, cartoonist, comic book artist, storyboard artist, director, and producer. Camp has been nominated for two Emmys, a CableACE Award, and an Annie Award for his work on The Ren & Stimpy Show. Camp started his animation career as a designer for animated series such as ThunderCats, Silverhawks, TigerSharks, and several other series produced by Rankin/Bass. He then worked as a designer on The Real Ghostbusters for DiC, and later as a storyboard artist on Tiny Toon Adventures for Warner Bros. Television. Camp was a co-founder of and director for Spümcø, the animation studio that created The Ren & Stimpy Show. He played a major role in the studio's creative force until September 21, 1992, when he left to work for Games Productions (a.k.a. Games Animation). At Games, Camp was promoted to creative director of The Ren and Stimpy show and supervised work on the episodes made. After Ren & Stimpy ended in 1995, Camp and former Ren & Stimpy writer Jim Gomez began developing a new series for Nickelodeon titled Kid Komet and Galaxy Gal, which was never picked up for a full series. In the 1980s, Camp worked at Marvel Comics as an illustrator on many comic titles including G.I. Joe, Crazy Magazine, Bizarre Adventures, Savage Tales, Conan the Barbarian, and The 'Nam. In the 2000s, Camp worked as a storyboard artist on animated feature films such as Looney Tunes: Back in Action and Ice Age: The Meltdown. Camp also taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.* Follow Bob at Boblab Studios (boblabshop.com) | BobLab Studios | Facebook. https://www.blahcadepinball.com/blahcade-225/With this podcast, we can officially say that Farsight Studios is no longer in the pinball business. It turns out that AtGames did not contract Farsight Studios to produce the announced Taito pinball tables last year. The good news is that Magic Pixel got the gig to produce the licensed properties from Taito. We had to give our reaction to the news and detail what we thought about the playfield layouts and overall graphical design of the tables.
Live from ATgames headquarters, Paul, Anthony, and Arnaldo are here to talk about the home arcade revolution! After a little catching up we start out talking about our earliest memories of the arcade and all the weird places we played arcade games at (21:00). Of course, it would be odd to talk about arcades without talking about the titan of arcades worldwide for the better part of a decade, Street Fighter II (38:00), followed by the overall decline of the arcade (47:30). Arcade 1up and the reasons for their success in the home arcade market are up next (57:00), and we close out the episode talking about their main competitors and our own home arcade wishlists including a game that was announced shortly after we recorded the episode! Homebrew, when applied to video games, refers to games produced by hobbyists for proprietary hardware platforms that are not typically user-programmable, primarily video game consoles. These often use storage formats that make distribution difficult (such as ROM cartridges or encrypted CD-ROMs). Many systems have hardware restrictions to prevent unauthorized development. A non-professional developer for a system intended to be consumer-programmable, like the Commodore 64, is simply called a hobbyist (rather than a homebrew developer). The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive[b] outside North America, is a 16-bit fourth-generation home video game console developed and sold by Sega. The Genesis was Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Sega released it in 1988 in Japan as the Mega Drive, and in 1989 in North America as the Genesis. In 1990, it was distributed as the Mega Drive by Virgin Mastertronic in Europe, Ozisoft in Australasia, and Tec Toy in Brazil. In South Korea, it was distributed by Samsung as the Super Gam*Boy and later the Super Aladdin Boy.[c] Designed by an R&D team supervised by Hideki Sato and Masami Ishikawa, the Genesis was adapted from Sega's System 16 arcade board, centered on a Motorola 68000 processor as the CPU, a Zilog Z80 as a sound controller, and a video system supporting hardware sprites, tiles, and scrolling. It plays a library of more than 900 games on ROM-based cartridges. Several add-ons were released, including a Power Base Converter to play Master System games. It was released in several different versions, some created by third parties. Sega created two network services to support the Genesis: Sega Meganet and Sega Channel. 30.75 million first-party Genesis units were sold worldwide. In addition, Tec Toy sold an estimated three million licensed variants in Brazil, Majesco projected it would sell 1.5 million licensed variants of the system in the United States, and much smaller numbers were sold by Samsung in South Korea. By the mid-2010s, licensed third-party Genesis rereleases were still being sold by AtGames in North America and Europe. Many games have been re-released in compilations or on online services such as the Nintendo Virtual Console, Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Steam. The Genesis was succeeded in 1994 by the Sega Saturn. There's more good news for AtGames fans in the form of Zaccaria pinball games being available natively on the cabinet from mid-2021.We explore this news and ask which cabinet would you buy if you had to choose?Based on some discussion in community forums, we decide to peek into the world of software licensing again and see if it is actually legal to offer access to Visual Pinball X (VPX as it is known in the community) on commercial products. The results may surprise you.

Honey, doncha you know, she's more than Pac-Man with a bow! The Pac series continues with the ultimate genderbend - Ms. Pac-Man. We waka-waka-walka through the crazy origins of the best Pac-Man game (don't AtGames us) as we explore its very litigious history. How did a bunch of college dropouts make one of the best arcade games ever? What part did Atari play in the creation of this classic? What's Ms. Pac-Man's real name? Find out the history of GCC and the somewhat unknown role they played in video game history. And since it's a Pac-Man game it must have a pinball origin story, right? All those topics plus we find what really sticks in Mr. SNK's craw, launch a Super Missile Attack, and find out how Time magazine birthed an arcade conspiracy with legs.

In this week's Power Up Podcast, Taylor, Andrew & Anthony are joined by Juan as they recap the week's news such as the Joycon Class Action Lawsuit, Apex Legends season 3, The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Details, and so much more. Kicking thing's off, the guys take a look at Apex legend's Season 3 content and just what the game will have to offer players in this new season. We have a new legend coming to the game called Crypto who features a unique skillset. We will also be getting a brand new map as well as a couple new weapons and hop-ups. Have you checked out Season 3 yet? Let us know your thoughts on the game by leaving a comment down below! Following this, we take a look at the Switch Lite's sales figures as well as Joycon Drift issues that once again seem to be plaguing the Switch Lite. Just how can Nintendo fix this issue? Some of the other topics we discussed this week include The Last of Us 2 not having a multiplayer mode, the rights to Ms Pacman lapsing and being snatched up by At Games, and Modern Warfare not having a Spec Ops Mode. We were so close to simply turning this show into a podcast entirely celebrating the 90's sci-fi TV show Sliders. Can it happen? Do you even WANT it to happen? Oh and we also discussed Team Sonic Racing, the recently-announced additions to the Sega Mini-MegaDrive/Genesis list, Microsoft and Sony joining forces, and got incredibly distracted with Pen Pen TriIcelon! What more could you ask for?! While we we're at PAX East, the gaming world didn't stop. Who'd of thunk? Upon return, we get into all sorts of news. PS5 leaks, Apple's foray into a gaming, EA's massive layoffs and Sega finally wises up and decides to make their own Genesis console. That and we get some more news about Avengers: Endgame on episode 157 of Rated G for Gamers.
After several iterations of less-than-stellar mini consoles made by atGames, Sega is finally getting serious and putting out a higher quality miniature retro genesis console, one that is (hopefully!) on par with the likes of the SNES and NES Classic consoles. Thus far, things are looking quite good, with a great selection of games and a good looking piece of hardware. Here's hoping the actual device lives up to the hype when it comes out in September! Don't worry tech fans, even though we start with a bit of some football news we quickly get back to tech with news from AMD and Amazon, a record holder gets removed, Sega announces an official retro reboot, and The Meg hits YouTube! All this PLUS a rapid fire quiz show, a great new segment called “I Just Reddit”, and a very Quiet Weekly Garnish! Another new football league is coming … and it's launching next year! The XFL won't be the only new professional football league set to launch over the next couple of years. The Alliance of American Football was unveiled at a press conference in New York. This new league has an official debut date (Feb. 9, 2019) and a TV partner (CBS Sports Network). “I think this will be complementary to the NFL,” said former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, who will serve as the AAF's head of player relations. AMD unveils its second-generation Ryzen CPUs With last year's Ryzen processors, AMD made a grand re-entry into the world of high-performance desktop computing. Now its improving on those designs with its second-generation Ryzen chips, which are a bit faster and more efficient. And, due to fan demand, AMD is also throwing in free "Wraith" coolers with every CPU. The big takeaway this year: AMD is in an even better place to compete with Intel. Twin Galaxies Removes Former Donkey Kong Champ Billy Mitchell's High Scores Controversial arcade game player Billy Mitchell's record scores have been removed from the Twin Galaxies leaderboards following a dispute earlier this year that many were performed using an arcade emulator. The ruling, which comes after a lengthy arbitration process, also bans Mitchell from further participation on the leaderboards, bringing an end to the King of Kong star's high-score glory. All of Mitchell's records on Twin Galaxies, an organization that tracks video game records and high scores, have been scrubbed. These marks included a 1,062,800-point score for the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong, as well as scores set between 2005 and 2007. Sega announces the Mega Drive Mini Sega is getting in on the nostalgic, miniature console trend. Yesterday at Sega Fes 2018, It announced that it will release the the Mega Drive Mini, a miniature version of the Mega Drive, sometime in 2018. The company also announced that it would be bringing a number of classic games to the Nintendo Switch this summer. Sega says that the tentatively-named Mega Drive Mini is being released in conjunction with the console's 30th anniversary, and that it will carry a number of classic games. The company has dabbled with retro hardware before: it has licensed its name to hardware company AtGames (which has also done retro Atari consoles) to produce Genesis clones, including the Sega Genesis Flashback that Polygon wasn't a huge fan of. On Facebook, AtGames revealed that the forthcoming Mega Drive Mini will be powered by its hardware.
This week, we discuss video game lawsuits with our special guest, Norman Caruso, the Gaming Historian (http://thegaminghistorian.com/) . How did we get the Gaming Historian on this little dog and pony show? It’s hard to say. It could be that he’s a huge fan of obscure podcasts. … or it could be that he’s Kristin’s husband. What can we say? It’s a gigantic mystery. In this episode, Kristin starts us off with Devin Moore, a teenager who shot two police officers and a 911 dispatcher. When the police finally caught up with him, he said, “Life is like a video game. Everybody’s got to die sometime.” That mindset left a lot of people asking whether violent video games were to blame for his murder spree. Then Norman brings us our only non-violent crime of the day when he tells the fascinating story of Atari Games vs Nintendo. This lawsuit focused on the very first unlicensed games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Brandi wraps things up with Daniel Petric, the 16-year-old boy who shot his parents after they took away his copy of Halo 3. His defense attorney said that Daniel’s recent infection made him more susceptible to the game’s violent themes…. But we’re a little skeptical. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “The Rise and Fall of Video Gamings Most Vocal Enemy,” Kotaku “Court Rejects Appeal in Alabama Suit Blaming Game for Slayings,” WSFA “Grand Theft Auto Player Gets Death Penalty,” The Inquirer “Can a Video Game Lead to Murder?” CBS News “Driven to Kill?” People Magazine In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Game Over For Teen Who Killed Mother Over Video Game” by Edecio Martinez, CBS News “17-year-old Accused of Killing Mother Over Halo 3 Video Game May Get Verdict Soon” by Marvin Fong, The Plain Dealer “Petric Sentenced to 23 Years To Life: Father Says Son Regrets Shooting Mother Over Halo 3 Video Game” by Jordan Cravens, The Morning Journal In this episode, Norman pulled from: “Game Over” by David Sheff A History of AT Games (http://mcurrent.name/atarihistory/at_games.html) Atari Games Corp v Nintendo http://digital-law-online.info/cases/24PQ2D1015.htm
