TRIGGER WARNING: This episode discusses sexual abuse and drug use. Mental Pleasure welcomes Austin Martin this week, as he bravely opens up about the sexual abuse he endured during his childhood and how the undealt trauma led to a substance addiction he struggles with to this day. With the help of therapy and the realization of a possible anger disorder, Austin decided it was finally time to face his undesirable behavior and numbed feelings he thought were normal for so long. Opening up about traumatic memories can be very tough to do because your body quite literally relives the experience and so I appreciate every ounce of truth Austin has shared in this part 1 series of Mental Pleasure. Join me this week as I'm featured on the debut episode for the podcast, A Beautiful Chaos with Stephen Vultaggio! We talk through everything from Mental Pleasure as a brand, my sobriety, and experience with therapy. I believe what truly makes this episode is its' vulnerability and honesty throughout our entire conversation but you'll have to listen for yourself. I'm so proud of Stephen and his leap of faith to contribute nothing but greatness to this life by bringing A Beautiful Chaos to our beautiful ears. Of all the things you'd need a break from, who would've thought you'd need a little time out from working on your mental health? Unfortunately, I learned this lesson the hard way, as I do most lessons, but this one seems to be one of those that will stick around for a while. Though therapy has helped uncover and discover, it has left me feeling like an open vessel, at least temporarily. I discuss more of what I mean and go over my QEEG brain map and the extremely surprising results. Happy listening!Instagram: @mymentalpleasureEmail: Info@mymentalpleasure.com

TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide and mental health are heavily discussed in this episode! Welcome to part 2 of Questions & Answers with Ann Guzman. This episode gets more into the meat of discussing depression, anxiety, obsessive thinking and the process of seeking outside help. Ann Guzman is a therapist that specializes in mental health specifically for those who are suicidal, at Lakeside DBT and Recovery DBT. In this two-part series, Ann discusses her role as a therapist, what DBT is and exactly how she helps others apply regulation/coping methods to their day to day mental health, especially in crisis scenarios. Ann answers questions I collected from listeners and those around me whom I asked, “What is a question you would ask a therapist?” I believe you take on a whole lot by being a therapist but to specifically help patients who are suicidal takes not only special education, learning, and skill but also a heart big enough to care. Mental Pleasure welcomes Luke Fuller to episode 49, where he discusses his fascination in learning and his experienced perspective on the human condition. Luke leads a profession in the field of data science and engineering; his leadership role is specifically within advanced analytics. He studied business & mathematics at the University of Alabama and computer science at Georgia Tech.Like many of us, beyond schooling and what our degree may say, we have many interests, hobbies, thoughts, questions and ideas that go further than a piece of paper and what one is conditioned to believe. Which is is one of the main reasons why I wanted to bring Luke on – he has always had a fascinating mind, doesn't take shit standing still and offers great insight. I highly recommend you listen to this episode in its entirety. Happy listening! What is stopping you from taking the next step in your life? Is it your emotions that are stopping you? Are limited resources, like time and money holding you back? Or is it something simple like laziness or distractions that tend to consume your days? More often times than not, you may not even know where to begin. Believing in yourself is a full-time job and I hope this episode helps you take that first step towards the direction of untapping your potential. “The definition of hell is: your last day on Earth, the person you became meets the person you could have become”. What better way to ring in the first Mental Pleasure episode, than with a riveting conversation with reporter, Julieta Martinelli ?Julieta or known as “Juju”, is an award-winning, investigative reporter and currently the Senior Producer at Futuro Media. She writes about humanity and particularly the way human rights intersect with the criminal legal system and immigration - specifically, for Latino USA, Futuro Studios and Futuro Investigates. Last year, Juju wrote and co-produced Suave, a narrative podcast series about juvenile life without parole. Suave was recognized by the International Documentary Association as 2021's best audio documentary series. Just last year, 2022, her work was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in audio reporting. Juju's writing and reporting has helped lead to the release of two incarcerated men in two separate cases, one of which had spent nearly two decades wrongfully convicted, in prison. Over the years her work has taken her all over the world. She has spent many months alone in big and small border towns, in Mexico, documenting the stories of asylum seekers who are forced to live in dangerous conditions. She has visited overcrowded shelters, prisons and detention centers across the South – to be more specific, in the jungle at the Darien Gap, which straddles between Colombia and Panama, all the way to the soccer fields of Argentina; to begin to understand how something as simple as the game of soccer, helps shape the sense of belonging and identity for those living in such communities. As you can already see, Juju is far from simple and those who know her would describe her as “simply, THE best.” She definitely is a force to be reckoned with and you'll just have to listen to see for yourself. Since we are having a week off for the holidays, we wanted to at least give you all something to listen to. So, we decided to play a favorite - episode 13, titled “Sober Thoughts”. Mental Pleasure's last episode before the new year and we made it all about you, the listener. Happy Listening & Happy New Year!
Nothing like a short and sweet episode with our very own hostess with the mostest. In this episode, Melanie discusses the 2-day fast she embarked upon and the reasons as to why she decided to do something many would consider drastic or “unnecessary”. With an end goal of improving the body, mind and spirit - Melanie realizes a lot that needs to be worked on within her very own. Happy listening! Momma always said I would have to deal with difficult people in my life but unfortunately I spent a lot of that time completely avoiding and cutting off, instead of dealing. I don't think we will completely understand each others' rhythm to our individual madness but the one thing we can at least start to understand and control is our reaction. With a better grasp on reactions, we can then divert our focus on the compassion and empathy we all truly need at the end of the day.
What if someone told you, you can choose your happiness? Even better, what if you could choose the life you want to live? This is exactly what our guest, Stephen Vultaggio, breaks down in this episode, ever so eloquently. Creative, hustler, entrepreneur, technologist, corporate transformer to small business investor and enthusiast is just a small depiction of what defines Stephen as a whole. You're going to want to grab a pen and paper for this one, as Stephen concludes our Men's Mental Health segment by sharing how introspection and critical reflection has gotten him to where he is today. Happy listening!
Welcome back to a fantastic Tuesday Mental Pleasure listeners! Let's help wish our very own, Melanie, a happy 30th birthday! On this episode, Melanie shared her countdown of 30 lessons she plans on taking into her 30's. We will continue with the men's mental health segment next week but until then let's celebrate! Send all your birthday love @mymentalpleasure or email us info@mymentalpleasure.com
Happy Tuesday Mental Pleasure family! It's the second week of our Men's Mental Health Awareness segment and we'd like to welcome Sir James Cahill. James opens up about what his life was like in middle and high school, feeling repressed and “in the closet”, versus the authentic life he feels free to live now. We dive into the times when the American Psychological Association once listed homosexuality as a “mental disorder” and discuss the research proven statistics, showing gay and bisexual men having higher chances of being diagnosed with major depression, bipolar disorder, and generalized anxiety disorders. We know being true to oneself not only takes work but also deep healing within, which James also discusses. His introduction to therapy during his college years not only proved to help in his toughest years but also necessary for his overall growth. Happy listening! Welcome back Mental Pleasure listeners! November is the month we recognize Men's Mental Health and to do that, we decided to have a male guest each week, to get a better understanding from their perspective. This week we welcome Justin Sanzone as our first guest for our Men's Mental Health Awareness segment. Growing up in a household with 5 other siblings, Justin has bared witness to countless shenanigans. Life changing events like his father passing away at a young age to then having a stepfather who secretly lived a double-life, one would ask, why not to therapy? Join us as we discuss the stigma behind man therapy and why men typically avoid seeking help when it comes to mental health issues. Happy listening! It's a new month, a fresh start and you know I love new starts. Little do we remember, we don't have to wait until the start of the month, week or new year to do something new, be the person you want to be, start a good habit or routine. Hello, you can start it tomorrow and the next day or the day after that! I know it sounds a lot easier said than done but it is one of those things we seriously take for granted. We have to “uncondition” our minds to limits and start conditioning our minds to understanding we are limitless, because at the end of the day it is your mind that truly limits you - In the decisions you make, feelings you feel, thoughts, ideas etc. Let's talk about it! Happy listening Mental Pleasure fam!
Welcome to Episode 35 listeners, we know you missed us! Sorry for leaving you hanging last week but as always, there's a rhyme to every reason and season. Have you been questioning absolutely every aspect of your life? These questions not only prove your curiosities to life and what it has to offer but questioning is a great tool to use when reflecting on whether or not you are where you need to be in your journey. Does it 100% tell you the answer you need to know at this very moment? Not always but the answers you discover are great indicators of any healing or progress we all aim to accomplish. Or at least we sure as hell hope so! Let this episode be a reminder to slow down and surrender to the happenings, mishaps, epiphanies, emotions and never ending thoughts. Make sure the narrator in your head is actually you speaking and not society, friends, family or strangers speaking for you. Happy listening Mental Pleasure fam! Did anything you hear resonate with your soul? We'd love to hear all about it!Email: info@mymentalpleasure.comInstagram: @mymentalpleasureTwitter: @mymentalplease

This week's episode brings Mario, a headstrong young man with a calm demeanor, celebrating 13 months of freedom from a Georgia state prison. Mario sits down with us to discuss his early childhood and the possible reasons behind his in and out incarceration bids throughout the last decade. Most importantly, how living behind bars and a couple of long stays in solitary confinement has molded his character for the bad and for the good. We discuss absolute segregation, old school prison life vs. new school prison life, and what it truly takes to survive being an “ex-convict”. Flourishing in the free-world has its' challenging times for sure but Mario's unequivocal faith and love for his freedom and family is what motivates him to staying out. Please help welcome our lovely, astrological sister Jusana on this week's episode of Mental Pleasure. Jusana helps break down the logistics of astrology and explains the importance of horoscopes beyond our own individual signs. Whether you believe in it or not, you have to admit there has to be some bigger picture to what we consider “divine timing” and how it correlates with the stars, moon and sun. Let's also not forget that in Latin culture, these topics are actually deemed as “brujeria” or witch craft and are often told to stay away from such beliefs. You know you're always in for a ride when it comes to these controversial episodes. Take a listen and let us know what you think, we'd love to hear - Happy listening! A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Just updating my bestie (you) with the best tea (not really gossip). Is it okay if I call you bestie? Okay because I think at this point you know me and pretty much all my business by now and even if I may not know you as well, we clearly just have this undeniable bond. Let me stop bullshitting you guys, this episode is your weekly update and my best way of communicating to each and every one of you who go through these shitty obstacles that are inevitably part of life! Have you ever heard bad things always come in 3's? Well, I did but just didn't think it would happen to me like it did. It's safe to say I felt every kind of emotion these past few weeks and I really wanted to be open with what transpired. It's easy to say things are replaceable and as long as I'm unharmed all is good in the hood but is it really? Because my mind was going absolutely ape shit which is really only the best way I can explain it in short. These events have really made me ask myself, am I healed or am I simply distracted? When put in a difficult situation, are you able to recognize the negative emotions that arise? Can you recognize it as a discovery, “as no one else is responsible for your emotional reactions except for you”? I'll leave it at that. Happy listening, peace & clarity. If you haven't already, please rate this podcast if you love it!
Welcome to episode 24! That's right, there was no episode last week and we are sincerely sorry! Unfortunately, due to a family emergency the recording was postponed. This just goes to show, not everything you try to plan really goes as planned because life happens and family always comes first. We talk about the struggle and overall sadness felt when it comes to watching a parent struggle with their health and really questioning how long you'll have left with them. Although death is inevitable, being faced with its' potential really opens a door to a lot of emotions, thoughts and puts many things into perspective. Join us in this episode as we get more into detail. Happy listening! Info@mymentalpleasure.com
Due to everyone living their best damn life and traveling the world, we made this episode a quickie! The second out of the four agreements states, “do not take anything personally”. Tuh, easier said than done, especially when comments or frustrations can sometimes be directed right towards you. Melanie helps her mom move to Florida, enough said and Mhelany discussed her high and low of the week. This may or may not be a part 1 to a 2 part series. Stay tuned and happy listening.
Mental Pleasure welcomes Mariely Gallindo to their 21st episode, discussing what it truly takes to manifest that “good good” in your life, whether it comes to your psyche or career. Let's face it, we hear about this manifestation stuff everywhere but do we actually personally know people who have taken a swing at it and successfully kicked life's ass? That “greener grass” we all would like to achieve in our lives can sometimes seem unattainable, especially when society tends to idolize celebrities and those celebrities are the ones telling us what to do with our life. This episode was recorded with every intention to help listeners understand that we are all fully capable of getting out of our own damn ways to achieve our individual desires, manifestations and start making those damn vision boards a reality! We implore you to check out Mariely: @themarielyshow on all social media platforms. She also makes ethically exquisite jewelry @mariely.co Happy Listening! info@mymentalpleasure.com
Help us welcome Mental Pleasure to its' 20's! You know what that means, hold on because shit is really about to go haywire. Isn't that what your 20's felt like anyway? In this episode Melanie & Mhelany discuss the recent overturning of Roe vs Wade and just simply how it's not the best decision to be people who live in glass houses while throwing stones or however that saying goes. Melanie talks about her vacation with the other “baby momma” and how co-parenting has truly been an evolved blessing in disguise. If that sounds a little confusing to you, you'll just have to listen to really understand. If you have further comments for this episode, want to discuss a specific topic or simply need an ear to listen, please feel free to email info@mymentalpleasure.com Happy listening and a huge thank you to Mental Pleasure supporters!
