At the Bell Tavern on the evening of August 7th 1820 Reuben Turner and Thomas Logwood were drinking heavily. A horseback battle later that evening ends with one man mortally wounded and another barricading himself in the courthouse, but don't worry EVERYONE get's to wave a knife. The story became one of the first big news stories of the day with a special running in the Alabama Republican Newspaper focusing only on this case. We also get a peak into Tennessee Valley resident's menu of the time which consisted of a pile of bacon, salted pork and you can polish that off with whiskey soaked bread and a tall glass of milk.

After suffering a mysterious illness that left him in a temporary coma Walter began observing local wildlife and predicting the weather, priceless information for farmers of the Tennessee Valley. Huntsvillain History Season 2 - Episode #1 Petition of 1828

On August 13th, 1828 11 enslaved people sued two white men for their freedom in the court of Huntsville Alabama. This was one of only two court cases John O'Brien has ever found that included enslaved people as litigants and not as property. Today's case covered a vast expanse of 1800's civil rights including a women's right to property and "Manumission" -where a slave owner willingly frees their slaves usually upon their death. We also discuss the documentation required of free black people during the era. Although some of Alex's recent music has been composed in the format of a southern rock band his new solo act is letting him explore a brand new facet of his music. We talk Alex about his creative process and his experience working different sides of genre and vocality. He also performs four tracks, many of them debuts, including "All I Wear is Blue", "Already Shattered", "Stone Broken" and "Feels Good". The dynamic duo behind MASQ, Jason and Trevor toured all the way from Oregon to land in our Spicy little studio today. Although these two have brought their music to Huntsville before they're definitely kicked it up a notch with their latest jams. Look out for some stunning guitar effects, epic feats of coordination and interesting facts about Oregon. Big thanks to our newest intern Trent Whitlow, who mixed and mastered all four of MASQ's tracks. We hear "Take a Bite", "Fluid Notion", "Haircut" and "From the Grave".

After a literal brainstorm, the bravest and most clandestine of salesmen are back at the Spice Rack to promote the release of their album "Brainstorm". Yellowhammer is hosting Them Damn Dogs and the Black Market Salesmen this Friday night for their huge album release show tha you do not want to miss!    We got a sneak peak at some of the upcoming tracks from the album and talked to the guys about their recording experience, mandatory Klayton colors, and Welch's brand cigarettes. We hear four tracks recorded live, "Flower Child", "Tiger Lilly Dreams", "Abode of Mist"(Not A-Boat of Mist) and "Lucifer's Ploy".
