**Colin Peters presents… 15 FAVES** This mix features 15 tracks that are some of my all-time favourites, personal memories that come together to form a beautiful whole. **Laid Back – White Horse** It's electro, synthpop and post-punk rolled into one, what's not to like :) **Lenny Kravitz – Let It Ride (Jamie Jones remix)** ‘White Horse' and ‘Let It Ride', get it? Got to see Lenny Kravitz live in April 2025, and I love his homage to New York's 80s underground, expertly remixed by Jamie Jones. **Tiefschwarz – Kinda New (Tiefschwarz Dub)** The biggest track of Ibiza 2004 dominated the speakers of the White Island, especially at We Love Sundays at Space. **Moontalk - Virtual Friends** Love the whole Tiga 00s vibe on this 2024 track, leading us nicely into… **Seelenluft - Manila (Ewan Pearson remix)** **Golden Boy with Miss Kittin - Rippin Kittin (Tobi Neumann remix)** These two tracks will always remind me of my sets at Manumission and Carry On, with the electroclash and synthpop revival fitting perfectly with my sound at the time. **Information Society – Running (Oscar Independance edit)** Freestyle at its finest, this track really has stood the test of time. It's also one of the first remixes by one of my all-time favourite DJs and producers, Louie Vega. **When In Rome – The Promise ** This track, along with Desireless - ‘Voyage Voyage', are tracks I adored back in the 80s but then disappeared before coming back in a dazzling moment of rediscovery. ‘Voyage Voyage' in a taxi in 2001 in London and ‘The Promise' in 2004 as part of the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack. Poetry in motion. **Company B – Fascinated ** More 80s freestyle sauce by Company B. The Melody is strong with this one. **Mel & Kim – Showing Out (Serge Santiago edit & Extended Version)** This one always reminds me of my older brother and his 80s Hi-Fi system. Whenever he went out, he always said: “Don't you dare touch my vinyl; I'll know if you have.” I always gave it a good 15 minutes before getting my grubby hands on the record player. My faves were Five Star, Whitney Houston and this absolute banger by Mel & Kim, produced and remixed by the much-maligned Stock, Aitken & Waterman. **The Aikiu – The Red Kiss (The Magician Precious 80's Dub)** The Magician captures the magic of the 80s on this dub **Nami Shimada – Sunshower (Vox)** Originally released in 1989, Nami Shimada's ‘Sunshower' is a peculiar deep house anthem that has stuck in my head over all these years. The best mix is the Vox version from 2004, still sounding fat after 21 years later with its warm blend of house and electro. **Wham! – Everything She Wants (SMQ edit)** My No.1 Wham track, beautifully edited by Sleazy McQueen. I celebrated my 40th birthday by recreating Wham! 's ‘Club Tropicana' video at Pikes (I was George Michael, of course). **Steve Winwood - Valerie Eric Clapton – Behind The Mask** Ending 15 Faves, we have two 60s rock gods who embraced synthpop on 2 of their signature tracks. Stevie Windwood's glorious ‘Valerie' and Eric Clapton's masterly cover of Yellow Magic Orchestra's ‘Behind The Mask'. These two were massive on my Yellow Sports Walkman in 1985.

George Wythe is one of the most interesting, important, and least known of the founders.  The second law professor in the English-speaking world (the first was William Blackstone), he taught the law to Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, Henry Clay, and others.  He also was one of the few Virginia leaders to free the people he owned, and he taught at least one Latin, Greek, and the Law before being poisoned, at the age of 80, by a jealous nephew.  George Wythe, signer of the Declaration of Independence, deserves to be better known, and Wythepedia is where to begin.  Join us in conversation with Steven Blaiklock and Linda Tesar from the Wolf Law Library at the College of William and Mary in a conversation about George Wythe, the law, and the Revolution in Virginia.

20 years ago to the day I stepped up to the decks at the Manumission Opening Party (The Good Ship) and opened with Lenny Kravitz "Are You Gonna Go My Way." It was a complete statement of intent and the place went wild, the biggest reaction I have ever had. I closed the party each week in the Coco Loco and armed with just Technics 1210s and CDJ 500s I weaved a tapestry between 80s dance, funky house, rock 'n' roll, soundtracks, synthpop and French touch. To mark my favourite ever summer in Ibiza I have drawn on my memories to create this mix which took me back to those moments of Manumission madness from 7 to 9.30 a.m. Hoy hace 20 años de aquel día en el que me subí a los platos en la fiesta de inauguración de Manumission (The Good Ship), y abrí con Lenny Kravitz "Are You Gonna Go My Way". 1. Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way 2. Daft Punk - Aerodynamic 3. Alan Braxe & Fred Falke - Most Wanted 4. Welcome to the last episode of season 3 of Can U Put Me On Guestlist! I couldn't think of a better way to finish this season than with one of my best friends in the entire world, Michelle. If you've partied in Ibiza or at any of the biggest festivals around the globe, the chances are you've seen Michelle dance. Michelle has danced for Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Manumission, Ultra Festival, BPM, Music On, the list goes on, and her talent has taken her all over the globe not just to dance herself but also to manage and coordinate other dancers at events. So with a few drinks (which I so wish could have been in person!), we chat all about the world of dancing, how she got to where she is today, stories she’s made along the way, Ibiza, managing other dancers, the hardest part of being a dancer, working busy schedules and much more.  Our first ever interview together was back in 2013 when we didn't even know each other and since then she has become such a special person to me, so I'm so happy that we did this together and that Michelle is part of the podcast.  Thank you so much for your support this season, I really appreciate it and remember to subscribe to the podcast so you’ll find out as soon as season 4 starts which will be very soon!

I've been meaning to write about Pleasant Roane for quite a while. I've always felt badly that other research and other stories commanded my attention more, and overshadowed his tale. Well, as much of his tale as I'm aware of. It's quite the interesting tale. I've also been surprised that I see to be the only Roane family descendant researching Pleasant. Mine is the only family tree in which he appears. This, in part, probably has to do with the obscurity of his origins. Any Roane would be proud to claim him. So what prompted my interest? He is one of a handful of my enslaved ancestors who sued for his freedom...and then sued the State of Virginia to be allowed to remain in the state once he was freed. TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ DJ SNEAK SPECIAL SHOW 2021 #001 - PART 2 DJ Sneak (born Carlos Sosa; November 5, 1969) is a Puerto Rican born American DJ and record producer raised in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is noted as being one of the second wave of Chicago house producers, (alongside Derrick Carter, Cajmere/Green Velvet, Gemini, James Curd and Paul Johnson) as well as a member of the vanguard of late-1990s United States house producers. In 1983, Sneak moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico, where his early musical experiences and influences were rooted in salsa, merengue and Latin orchestras. In Chicago, Sneak found inspiration in underground house music, warehouse parties and "old school" mix tapes from the early pioneers, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Ralphi Rosario, Steve Hurley and local radio station shows played on WBMX. Sneak earned his nickname rocking graffiti-tags and began working at retail stores as an airbrush artist. His development as a DJ came while working regular mobile DJ jobs and local nightclubs. Sneak focused on his music production and started his independent label - Defiant Records. In 1994, while still working at local store Gramophone Records, Sneak met Cajmere (Green Velvet) owner of Cajual and Relief Records. Cajmere released three of Sneak's catalyst tracks, which helped bring him international recognition. In Ibiza, Sneak has participated in several events with Ministry of Sound, Cream, Manumission, and Miss Moneypenny's. Sneak currently resides in Los Angeles, California, US. Lyrics by DJ Sneak are featured in the Daft Punk song, "Digital Love", from their 2001 album, Discovery. In 2001, Sneak launched a new record label Magnetic Recordings, where he has been releasing new music, with compilations to come, along with the introduction of new musical talent. Source: Wikipedia

Noche de Candela - September 15, 2006 "Noches de Candela" poetic vigils are a series of literary events aimed at invoking the Oshun-Chango spirit to produce a major "Rumba in San Juan de Ulua" fortress in Veracruz, Mexico summer 2007 where humanists are to meet to pay homage to the African ancestors through their song and witnessing. San Juan de Ulua was the door of entry for hundreds of thousands of enslaved Africans during the Spanish colonial period which lasted around three hundred years in that region of the continent now a part of Mexico. This foremost chapter of the history of the diverse African presence and permanence in Mexico has been kept silent. The souls of these ancestors are trapped in oblivion, official negation and the Eurocentric account of the facts that has dominated Mexican history. The common thread for these events will be "Marronage and Manumission in the Americas: an Alternate Vision of Planetary History."
