Two nerdy guys discussing all kinds of content from one of the most well known and loved TTRPGs, Dungeons and Dragons. Join us as we delve into all manner of D&D content from items to subclasses, highlighting interesting homebrew material and exploring its themes and application. We try to keep these talks as raw and unedited as possible. We enjoy talking with each other about the game and the tangents that spring from those conversations and felt we should keep the content a genuine representation of our interactions and passions. Live show streams on Twitch Wednesdays, 9PM EST
The Barbarian has been a constant favorite of those that love to hit things really hard and be a terror on the battlefield, but with all the new content being released we can't help but notice how little is aimed at our beloved tanks. Is there anything truly left for the Barbarian class, or is it a one trick pony slowly being phased out into the has-beens?
WotC has come through with some new Unearthed Arcana this week giving our draconic characters some new toys to play with. We'll be going over the new content that contains dragonborn variants, a major facelift for the kobold, and some extra spells and feats with all the dragon flavoring.
The growth of a character's power through the levels is one of the best things to experience. Today we talk about the different methods of leveling throughout an adventure, and the benefits and pitfalls of either.
No big new content or tangents this week folks, just a very exciting announcement about a project we have been working on and will hopefully come to fruition soon. Thank you all so much for your continued support of the show!
Death comes for even the strongest characters and can send ripples through your campaign. Today we discuss some of our personal deaths that have been most impactful, and some tips on how to use death of a character to enrich or affect the direction of your games.
Some new Unearthed Arcana dropped this week containing four new races from the Feywild. We’re covering all their new features and backgrounds and talking about why rabbits are lame and Treents rule supreme. What are your thoughts?
Much like our Dragonslayer build, we set ourselves up with some loose parameters and set out to create characters we thought would thrive in the vast unknowns of the Underdark. How did we do? What would you do?
Fifth edition is going strong for now, but there's a lot of new content coming down the pipeline that could hint the silent transition into the next stages of the game. Today we sit down and give our thoughts on the future of the game, the new editions to come and some of our wants for when 5e gives way to the next edition of the game.
WotC has a new sourcebook coming out this May and it's covering the darkness that is Ravenloft and the Domains of Dread. Join in as we cover what we know and what we want to know and our thoughts on it all.
Every player at the table has more than a few moments where they let their real thoughts break through the wall of fantasy and affect the actions of the character. In this session we talk about the different ways to handle or avoid meta gaming at the table, and the techniques and benefits to embracing failure and missed opportunity.
Today we sit down and put our evil minds together to detail what we think makes a great villain for any adventure. We reference film and media of course, but also bounce around the traits and capabilities we like to see a villain possess to create the best end game possible.
Today we reel back and look at the backbone of any successful tabletop game: Communication. This begins with the session zero but has to carry throughout the campaign to avoid a number of issues and create the most streamlined and fun environment for GMs and Players alike.
In this continuation of our last talks on where we draw our creative inspirations, we talk characters. Pulling from acting experience, psychology and personal interest, we discuss where we look when building a character and how we think it best for them to develop.
We sit down and talk about our current campaigns and those of the past and break down where we draw our campaign inspirations from. We discuss media, preferred themes and a little philosophy as well.
Today we continue our conversation on our favorite monster and player races. Interesting stories come up of campaigns past and present and how we gain inspiration for using our favorites to enhance story.
In the spirit of our new direction for the show enjoy a laid back talk about our thought on Goblinkind and how we've seen them used versus the way we use them.
Today we give our thoughts on supposedly the most dangerous "campaign ending" creature to grace the realms. We'll compare the 5e Tarrasque to previous versions, as well as a slightly adjusted version and see which version we believe deserves the title of World Shattering Tyrant.
Unfortunately this episode is not about tinsel cannons and candy cane crossbows as the name may suggest. This is just a relaxed sit down around the holidays with our drink of choice, talking about firearms within the world of DnD. We go over history of usage across editions, general rules and some cool possibilities to augment and personalize your ranged weapon of choice.
This week we delve deep down into the caverns of the Underdark, where nothing is safe, not even your thoughts. We're talking Ilithids, commonly known as mind flayers. You'll get a brief history of their people and a breakdown of their various types, all leading up to a homebrew big bad, Morwenna; Queen of the Hive!Morwenna by u/LucianAstaroth https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDHomebrew/comments/baw80s/morwenna_a_cr22_mind_flayer_queen_hellbent_on/?utm_source=BD&utm_medium=Search&utm_name=Bing&utm_content=PSR1
We've had fun talking about interesting dragon variants, but with all these terrifying new draconic foes there must be some heroes strong enough to take them on. With that in mind we set out a list of parameters and created what we think are some strong dragon slaying contenders. What do you think of our choices? Can you do better? Send your dragon slayers to Talk5e2me@gmail.com so we can put them to the test!

This is a special episode where Will and I sit down with resident witch Carly Dwyer to start discussions of creating a homebrewed class for dungeons and dragons. This session is a very loose brainstorming session which will feature many crisscrossing discussions and ideas that will inevitably get tweaked or trashed entirely, but we wanted you all to be a part of this creative journey. Feel free to send us your thoughts and stay tuned for more discussions in the future.
