I pay my respects to Wiradjuri Elders past, present, and emerging, and recognize the continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. This acknowledgment is a small but important step in recognizing the sovereignty of First Nations peoples and the deep historical and ongoing relationship with Country. In this episode we talk with Morwenna Kearsley about ethics as comfort. She describes both her personal projects and her projects working with participants, focusing on ownership and control over the images that are produced. She discusses her choice to focus on making portraits of objects instead of making portraits of people, and she shares the ethical responsibilities she feels as a photographer in the age of the internet. What does photography ethics mean to Morwenna? “Well I think it is an ongoing conversation that you have with yourself and your practice, whatever form that practice takes. So for me it's a conversation between myself, the materials that I use, the technologies that I use, and how that relates to the people that I'm working with and the places that I'm working within. It's not something fixed … as the technologies of photography change and the applications of photography change, photography ethics must and does change with it. … For me, it's just trying to be as aware as possible about what you're doing, and, for me, to not make work that I'm uncomfortable making, not to put anybody else in a situation that I would not be comfortable in…“ (39:47)Links:Creative ScotlandStreet Level PhotoworksSally Mann's At TwelveSource (magazine)William Henry Fox Talbots' Articles of GlassCitizen Kane (film)Jorge Luis Borges (writer)

As a conservation-accredited building surveyor with deep interests in both the natural and built environment, Slade explains the role of Historic England as a statutory consultee in planning, in provision of technical guidance and training, and in research to confront upcoming climate challenges. In this episode, she argues that sustainability and conservation are ‘well-matched' to deliver change on the ground. Slade also details the range of guidance and webinars available from Historic England, as well as the current research agenda which includes ‘hazard mapping' of regional risks. This involves granular mapping of overheating, flooding, slope collapse, shrink-swell capacity and storm exposure under different emissions scenarios and their implications for the built environment.   This is the episode that really puts the DARK in Pol, Dark & Handsome. I would estimate that I could see about 27% of the episode—the rest shot in dreary prisons, dark night scenes or smokey bars. Even the normal party scenes were in low lighting….   So from what I could see, I’d say this episode was about Making Bad Choices vs. Making Good Choices   For instance:    Bad Choice: Following Ross to France!  All those poor Saps in Cornwall Good Choice: Leaving that nearly dead best friend to get totally dead- way to be Dr. Ennys!    Bad Choice: Falling for the rich girl! Poor Drake Good Choice: Not getting killed by Ross’s ill-conceived plan Clever Drake—not killed and a hero in Morwenna’s eyes   Bad Choice: Siding with the Aristocrats in 1789—caroline! Good Choice: Going to their party and eating all the food and drinking all the wine- Demelza. Way to Werk It!    Bad Choice: Letting you baby get Rickets because you-re too strung out to nurse him or take him out in the sunshine-- Elizabeth Good Choice: Letting the Tarot Cards guide the future—aunt Agatha. Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan recap the PBS drama Poldark. It's the Season 3 Premiere and we are ready for Puffy Shirts and Slo-Motion Scything!      Two hours of pounding seas and galloping horses and dewey-skinned maids. Poldark is back! And don’t think we’re not still mad at your Ross—because we ARE. Maybe Demelza forgives you for the sake of the series, but we can still be bitter about your dalliance with Elizabeth. And mainly we’re mad because Elizabeth looks beautiful, even while giving birth.   Very quick recap of two hours:   Ross and Demelza have reached a détente—but it’s an uneasy one with the borth fo Elizabeth’s child approaching. In classic soap opera fashion—is it Ross’s baby? Or it is Goerge’s baby—her new detestable husbands?   Dr. Ennis and Caroline continue to delight with their wrong side of the tracks love story and secretly marry—but because of freaking Elizabeth going into labor, they can not consummate the marriage.    Meanwhile, everyone’s dying. Demelza's awful, father; Caroline's lovable but grumpy old uncle and possibly Elizabeth and the baby—who comes 5 weeks early. Ahem. It’s a lunar eclipse and that brings out the Crazy in Aunt Agnes who curses the baby.    Demelza’s two brothers show up after Awful Dad dies and start working in the mines and preaching ot the people. This looks to be a good storyline introducing the young bucks—Drake and Sam.    And lucky for Drake that Elizabeth has an impoverished niece who shows up to nanny for Geoffrey Charles. We think her name is Morwenna.  Watch out, Elizabeth—because Dewey skinned beauty has met her match.    Verity arrives for the Valentine’s baptism and we love her. Then everybody nearly deis or possibly dies again—Dr. Ennis in the Navy and Verity’s husband—Captain Old guy.    Ross turns down a job to be magistrate and heads off to France to find Dr. Ennis.    And a Pirate shows up! Arghhhh. We have NO IDEA  what this Captain Hook is saying.    Finally,  Demelza stares out at the sea…  and she's preggers!
