I love you and I share these words with you today. I feel we are all starting our year off con “cuidárnos”, ourselves, y unos a los otros perhaps with loving boundaries of course. Our latest podcast episode titled Cuidate,Mija covers burnout awareness and prevention from various stand points and of course all bundled with solutions, mis amores. Drops tonight, 1/27. An ego is a tool they said but to me, it's false confidence. It's a weakness. Confidence is dangerous, controlled danger, it's bold and it's anything but weakness. Don't carry the heavy burden and BS called Ego. Trust yourself, love yourself, be your biggest cheerleader, and rock it with authentic, unbreakable confidence. We've got this!
Help me wrap up this amazing series with last but not least Dra. Marylyn Valencia as she rocks this show with me. We cover her journey, success, and most importantly perspective as a phenomenal educator to our youth and a leader and pillar in the Latino education community and movement.

Determined and hardworking, Laura (Paredes) Oldaker has built The Oldaker Group, a group of companies comprised of Academy On-demand, La Casa de Becker Assisted Living and The Gift of Caring. These companies work with older adults, their families, and Care professionals to increase the quality of life of the aging population and develop the healthcare workforce. Laura's passions lie in not only excellent care but, also education, workforce development, and family caregiver training, empowering family caregivers who want to give their aging loved ones the highest level of care without sacrificing their own well-being. Laura is a big believer in education and continued training; as she is an avid learner herself. She has participated in many entrepreneurial training programs including the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small business program at Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts, and At the Table Women in Leadership and Business by the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Laura is also a graduate of the Stanford University Latino Entrepreneur Initiative. Laura received many accolades throughout her entrepreneurial career, including receiving national recognition as the 2013 Latino Business Series' Entrepreneur of the Year by Verizon Wireless and 2017 by the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce At The Table Hispanic Business Enterprise Award. She was also honored as the 2017 Hispanic Business Woman of the Year by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a 40 Under 40 award recipient, and named a Woman of Influence in 2017. Laura is greatly entwined in the Arizona community and lends service to organizations that support older adults, women of color, access to healthcare, and small businesses. Laura has recently completed her tenure as the Chairwoman of the Board for the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was appointed to the Pima County Workforce Investment Board; she also serves as a board member of the YWCA of Southern Arizona. Laura has a true passion for life and together with Justin, is raising their children, V'Eanna (Andrew), Ethan, Isabelle, and Uli to be the community's next leaders.
Augustina Mills served as the first Latina in over 87 years and a woman of color during her term as President of the Junior League of Tucson for the 2019-2020 league year. She served in various other roles including, President-Elect, VP of Marketing & Operations, Secretary, and Chair of the Done In A Day committee where she earned the ‘Shining Star Award.' Augustina was also a 40 Under 40 recipient in 2018. During her time in leadership, she researched and collaborated with other leagues to form and lead an ad-hoc within JL Tucson that created a five-year DEI Roadmap that has been shared widely amongst other Leagues. Augustina has always had a passion for DEI whether in the league or the workplace. She is no stranger to being a diverse person in not-so-diverse settings, especially in her workplace as a woman working in the STEM field as an engineer. Augustina grew up with humble beginnings raised by a single mother in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. She struggled but learned that resilience, humility, and hard work were her way out of poverty. She continues to give back to her community by mentoring young girls, teaching innovation techniques at a Title 1 middle school, and speaking to high school students about college and her journey as a woman in STEM. She is a self-proclaimed STEMinist! Augustina honors the diversity of every kind and believes the Junior League is a place where all women should feel invited, included, AND celebrated. ¡Sí, se puede!
Politics! You either love them, despise them, or know nothing about them. I've always found it interesting to hear someone say, "I hate politics," as I thought that the same statement they're making about the matter is political in and of itself. Am I right? Moving along, please join us on this first episode of the Ella Series as we talk with Cassandra Becerra, who has overcome some vast barriers, and get to know her one-on-one, behind the scenes, as a Latina woman in politics. Please stay up to date on our social media pages for the releases of the rest of the Ella: That's What She Said Series featuring Latina women in STEM, Arts, Entrepreneurship/Business, Education and Arts.
