This week on the Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they take a look at a very productive week of science that has been overshadowed by other news. We all know about THE slap... but while the media focused on this other news was pushed to the wayside that has revolutionary implications for the future of science and technology! The boys break this down for you this week. Over 2 billion genetically modified mosquitoes are poised for release in the USA but what are the effects and is the science safe? Zombie insects, zombie humans, and zombie dinosaurs?! A brain implant has allowed a man with locked-in syndrome to speak for the first time in years! Finally, microplastics have been found in the human blood stream for the first time... what is next? Music: MOKKA Music on YouTube
This week on the Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they jet off to the Sun to see if it's still wearing flares from the 90's! As is tradition the boys get immediately side-tracked and talk about the amazing 90's fashion that we all love and miss and talk about current AI technology developments that could change the world! When back on track though they turn their attention to our closest star and endeavour to explain what solar flares are, why they happen, how they are classified, and the effects they have on the solar system. From streams of plasma larger than 10 Earth's to ionised particles in the plasma stream it's all here! The boys also discuss solar wind and how the Earth protects us from this danger and even turns it into beautiful Aurora's. Lastly... can we harness solar wind for energy? Today the boys welcome BACK to the show: our first ever returning guests Dr. Barbara Martinez from Conservation XLabs and Krystle Moody-Wood from Materevolve. These two amazing guests have come back on the show to give us an update and ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS of the $525,000 prize pool for the Microfiber Innovation Challenge. If you did not catch the first time these guys spoke then do not worry the boys inquire into the work of Barbara and Krystle and how the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors have influenced sustainability in the textile world. Then the all-important announcement is made with a refresher on what the competition is about and why it is important. To end the show Barbara and Krystle explain to the boys about the future of sustainable fashion and textiles and what that could look like. Maybe the boys will host a runway show to present all the future fashion ;) Music: Mokka Music on YouTube

Tom asks Mitch to explain to him what Phishing and Malware are so he can understand and then they talk about the best ways to protect yourself online (shock horror: not by buying overpriced software protection programs). Mitch takes a deep dive into Ransomware, something often hosted on the Dark Web and then he takes us into the unknown explaining what the Deep Web is and how it differs to the dark web. The surface internet (what we can access) counts for a small fraction of the entire internet... so what's going on in the places we can't normally access? Music: MOKKA on YouTube
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they wander down the rabbit hole of cyber warfare. With the current events of the world the boys take this opportunity to explain how cyber war affects countries and how it has changed. But the big question is could these transfer over to humans? Are zombies actually possible?! Check it out here! Music: WhiteBatAudio.com
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they stare down the robot apocalypse! Yes, continuing their apocalypse theme, this week they discuss just how likely it might actually be for robots to take over humanity. Decades ago they predicted 2005, then 2030, now is it sooner or later?! The boys start out with their favourite robot movies then moving into robotic automation taking over various industries and how this could help humanity in the long run. But will our convenience be our downfall? Mitch tests Tom on robot parts and also teaches us all about AI, learning, and deep learning. To round things out Tom takes us back to the year 1999, with Y2K looming over our heads, was it all a hoax or was there a significant problem faced by the fact computers couldn't represent the year 2000 as a date? Find out here! Music: WhiteBatAudio.com
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they enter the world of the alien apocalypse! What would actually happen if aliens turned up with the intent to harvest or invade Earth and what is the science behind it? Mitch takes us down the route of War of the Worlds. What are EMPs and how do we combat them? Would you be able to survive in a world decimated by aliens? Tom explores the biology and genetics of rebuilding the human population. We often see two people are left to repopulate the world, but how realistic is that? The boys talk about ways humans might try to survive and, if the aliens leave or are defeated, how we might rebuild as a human race. Catch us next week in our apocalypse month! This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they explore the awesome, and maybe slightly weird, world of corals! As per usual the boys start off with some news, Tom got a bit carried away this week so apologies in advance! Finally getting into corals the boys explore exactly what they are in the first place! Plants? Animals? Both? Interesting there are a few types of coral reefs that form in different ways and a few different types of corals themselves! Lastly get ready to learn about threats to corals and reefs and what we can do to protect them! Remember, you have the marine biologist's approval to slap rocks out of people's hands ;) Music: WhiteBatAudio.com
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they explore the frozen expanses of ice ages. What classifies an ice age, how long do they last, how do they start in the first place? Did you know we are technically still in the same ice age in which woolly mammoths roamed the Earth?! Mitch explains Milankovitch cycles and other possible causes for ice ages while time takes us through the major ice ages in Earth's history. With a lot of interesting tangents along the way join us for this cool episode ;) Music: WhiteBatAudio.comĀ
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, join Mitch and Tom as they delve into the world of dreams! The boys start off in tangent city with news and facts related to dreaming (or not as well) but soon get back on track. So, what are dreams in the first place and why when we close our eyes to sleep are we transported off to strange, illogical, or downright scary lands? There are many theories from memory consolidation to they mean nothing at all, but what do you think? Lastly, they boys pick apart daydreaming, discuss its origins and uses, and reveal how their daydreaming habits affect their lives. Music: WhiteBatAudio.com
This week on The Conduct Science Podcast, Mitch and Tom take a look at endangered species! What and why are species considered endangered and who gets to make that decision? The IUCN Red List denotes those species that we should pay close attention to, but how do species make it on and off the list, and how do governments use that list? Mitch takes a look at the main reasons that cause population decline and Tom takes a look at the different strategies that can be used to help conserve populations. Do you think that its ethical to abandon some species to extinction in an effort to save others? Join the debate with #ConductScience. Music: WhiteBatAudio.com
