We look at Megyn Kelly's sickening and ludicrous (and instantly infamous) apologia for Jeffrey Epstein in the wake of the dump of Epstein emails, and follow the thread from her, via Richard Hanania's deranged tweets about how it's normal for adult men to fancy minors, and Alan Dershowitz's seemingly eternal dedication to having Jeffrey Epstein's back, all the way back to a 2017 meeting between Epstein and Steve Bannon (et al), as related by Michael Wolff in a book, published in 2021, that contains many things now being treated as revelations by the media... Oh what a tangled web we weave... Gigantic and terrible content warnings. We look at a concerning aspect of the LifeWise Academy's curriculum, which has been accused of promoting anti-Semitic teachings to children. We look at specific examples from the curriculum that seem to frame Jewish individuals as antagonists in the narrative surrounding Jesus Christ. Is it appropriate to be teaching such material to impressionable young minds, reinforcing harmful stereotypes rather than promoting understanding or compassion?Next we talk about an officer with the Toledo Fire Department who was terminated for voicing indifference following the murder of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. The action raises broader concerns about free speech and political expression, especially considering that conservative ideologies often cry foul over cancellation when they face criticism or consequences for their statements.Updating the ongoing Epstein saga, we've shifted into a phase where discussions on the age of victims have become disturbingly prevalent. This has reignited arguments about the nuances of consent as some right-wing figures attempt to minimize the severity of allegations connected to Epstein by suggesting distinctions between minors and young adults. We call out the moral bankruptcy of these arguments and the vast historical context surrounding the harmful trope of blaming individuals instead of the systemic issues that allow for such abuses. So of course the Catholic League wants to get on the age of the victim bandwagon. We also add the voice of Rebecca Watson who takes the rich and powerful to task over the child abuse and trafficking detailed in the Epstein case especially as it touches some of the people in the science and freethought movement.Full Show Notes & Links UsedSend us a textSupport the showSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFollow us on BlueskyFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon
VR14 - Part 2 of the Epstein files We continue our first look at some highlights from last week's massive release of more than 20,000 pages of material from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein released by the House Oversight Committee, including Steve Bannon and ASU professor Lawrence Krauss among others. We also consider Megyn Kelly's appalling response before leaving the last word where it belongs: with the women who have come forward to tell their stories on behalf of themselves and those who will never be able to. Theoretical physicist and bestselling author Lawrence Krauss (A Universe from Nothing, The Known Unknowns) explores the biggest questions we can ask: How did the universe begin? Why is there something rather than nothing? What is consciousness? And what will remain when every star has burned out?Krauss moves seamlessly from the hard science of the Big Bang and dark energy to existential philosophy, arguing that our cosmic insignificance is precisely what makes life meaningful. Along the way he shares personal stories—mentorship from Nobel laureates, serendipitous discoveries, his friendship with Christopher Hitchens—and explains how curiosity and rigorous science drive human progress.

Savage speaks with renowned theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss to discuss the current challenges faced by science. Krauss explains how the politicization of science, and the influence of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives on academia have eroded higher learning. They also reveal the adverse effects of DEI policies on the merit-based advancement of qualified individuals in scientific fields. Savage shares how he was at the forefront of discrimination of white males in academia. Learn how these woke policies impact free speech, academic integrity, and the future of scientific innovation in the U.S. and globally.

Freddie Sayers interviews renowned physicist and author Lawrence Krauss to explore how culture wars and ideological issues threaten science and his new book The War on Science—an anthology of essays from leading scientific thinkers including Jordan Peterson, Richard Dawkins, and Peter Boghossian, examining how academia and scientific institutions are increasingly under siege from within.Krauss lays out how “woke” ideology, DEI policies, and campus cancel culture are eroding the foundations of open inquiry, with contributors offering alarming insights from across disciplines—from medicine and biology to physics and philosophy. He discusses high-profile incidents like the recent antisemitism scandals at Harvard, arguing they reflect a broader intellectual crisis gripping universities. The conversation then shifts to the political backlash, particularly on the American right. With Donald Trump and other conservative figures now sceptical of academia altogether, Krauss raises concerns that the pendulum may be swinging too far the other way—threatening funding, trust in scientific institutions, and the space for real reform. From ideological capture in the lecture hall to political overreach in Washington, Krauss and Sayers dissect what's driving this war on science, why it matters, and what's at stake if both sides keep escalating. You may or may not have heard of Lawrence Krauss, a theoretical physicist and science popularizer. He starts from not only an atheistic position but an ANTI-theist one. In this series, we examine the various arguments he levies against religion, purportedly backed by science. To an unsuspecting listener, his claims may seem convincing; why, you may have even heard of these or variants of these yourself! We are exhorted in Scripture to 'test all things' (1 Thessalonians 5:21a), so let us carefully consider whether Krauss' offerings hold any water
Lawrence Krauss is a theoretical physicist and cosmologist renowned for his work in particle physics, cosmology, and science communication. Krauss explores the idea of cosmic insignificance and the absence of inherent meaning in the universe, emphasising the importance of appreciating the rarity of life, whilst exploring fundamental questions about the universe and human existence.Learn more about Lawrence and listen to The Origins PodcastKeep up to date with Peter on SubstackKeep up to date with Kasia! If you would like to support the podcast please consider our PatreonExecutive Producer: Rachel BarrettThanks to our volunteer researchers Hendrik Dahlmeier and Mihika Chechi, and Chris van Ryn!And special thanks to Suzi Jamil! In this episode of Thinking Out Loud, Cameron McAllister and Nathan Rittenhouse perform an intellectual autopsy of the New Atheist movement, reflecting on its cultural rise and current irrelevance. They unpack why arguments from figures like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris no longer resonate—especially in light of Christianity's enduring philosophical and moral foundations. With references to current debates, including a dismantling of Lawrence Krauss's secular claims, this episode provides Christians with a robust understanding of how to engage secular critiques with grace and intellectual rigor. In this special episode, created by one of our student podcast fellows, NYU student Sandro Schwyzer speaks with neuroscientist Joseph Ledoux, a former NYU professor and the band leader of The Amygdaloids. They discuss how he came to study neuroscience and the journey music has taken him on, revealing secrets about emotions through his creative process. Joseph LeDoux is an American neuroscientist known for his groundbreaking work on the nature of consciousness and the study of emotion. He wrote remarkable books such as “The Deep History of Ourselves: The Four-Billion-Year Story of How We Got Our Conscious Brains” where he discusses the relationship between emotion, consciousness, and the different parts of the human brain. This year, Professor LeDoux retired from his position as a professor of neuroscience and psychology at New York University. But LeDoux not only came into science in an unconventional way, he has also been very successful as the band leader of The Amygdaloids. He's been a guest on renowned podcasts like Joe Rogan and Lawrence Krauss, has had an Amazon documentary made about him, and features in Werner Herzog's latest documentary “Theatre of Thought.” He is currently working on his memoirs. It's not always easy to tell the difference between objective truth and what we believe to be true. Separating facts from opinions, according to skeptic Michael Shermer, theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss, and others, requires research, self-reflection, and time. Chapters for easier navigation:- 0:00 Introduction 0:41 Lawrence Krauss 3:02 Michael Shermer 8:07 Bill Nye 9:50 Lawrence Krauss (Part 2) 11:50 Darren Brown It's not always easy to tell the difference between objective truth and what we believe to be true. Separating facts from opinions, according to skeptic Michael Shermer, theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss, and others, requires research, self-reflection, and time. Recognizing your own biases and those of others, avoiding echo chambers, actively seeking out opposing voices, and asking smart, testable questions are a few of the ways that skepticism can be a useful tool for learning and growth. As Derren Brown points out, being "skeptical of skepticism" can also lead to interesting revelations and teach us new things about ourselves and our psychology. Read Michael Shermer's latest book "Skeptic: Viewing the World with a Rational Eye" at https://amzn.to/3c7vP58 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRANSCRIPT: LAWRENCE KRAUSS: I like to keep an open mind but not so open that my brains fall out. And that's the key point. We have to skeptically assess the information we receive. We can't be gullible because when we get a lot of information, it's absolutely certain that some of that information is wrong. And so we have to always filter what we get. And we have to ask ourselves the following question: "How open does my brain have to be to accept that information? Does it have to fall out?" And by that, I mean when someone tells you something you have to ask "Is this consistent with my experience? Is it consistent with the experience of other people around me?" And if it isn't, then probably there's a good reason to be skeptical about it; it's probably wrong. If it makes predictions that also appear to be in disagreement with things that you observe around you, you should question it. And so we should never take anything on faith. That's really the mantra of science, if you want, that faith is the enemy of science. We often talk about a loss of faith in the world today. You don't lose anything by losing faith. What you gain is reality. And so skepticism plays a key role in science simply because we also are hard-wired to want to believe. We're hard-wired to want to find reasons for things. In the savanna in Africa, the trees could be rustling and you could choose to say, "Well, there's no reason for that." Or, "Maybe it's due to a lion." And those individuals who thought there might be no reason, never lived long enough to survive to procreate. And so it's not too surprising, we want to find explanations for everything. And we create them if we need to, to satisfy ourselves, because we need to make sense of the world around us. And what we have to understand is that what makes sense to the universe, is not the same as what makes sense to us. And we can't impose our beliefs on the universe. And the way we get around that inherent bias is by constantly questioning both ourselves and all the information we receive from others. That's what we do in science and it works beautifully in the real world as well. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Lawrence Krauss came to Bratislava to be a keynote speaker at ESG conference organised by AmCham Slovakia. Why did he write a book about climate change? How can the universe pop out from nothing? And how to disagree respectfully? This and much more have been asked by Jozef and Samuel. (Na YouTube si môžete pustiť automaticky prekladané titulky.) I first encountered Lawrence Krauss sometime in the early 2000s at a conference. I had just given my lecture and was answering questions when a rather small man with a loud voice and a highly articulate manner stood up and began berating me in what I initially thought was an aggressive manner. It turned out he wasn't being aggressive; rather, his clear and direct way of speaking seemed forceful compared to the usual, more roundabout way people talk. Intrigued, I sought him out in the bar afterward, and we had a good discussion. This man was, of course, the distinguished physicist and public intellectual Lawrence Krauss. Shortly afterward, we continued our friendly disagreement in the pages of Scientific American, back when the publication still focused on science. Since then, I've interacted with Lawrence on stage more often than with anyone else. The following recording was made at Stanford University around 2007 and exemplifies how two people can have a fruitful public discussion without a chairman and outside of a debate format. The nature of our initial disagreement forms a good part of the discussion itself, so I won't spoil it here. I hope you enjoy it.
