The government is finally catching up to what biohackers have known for decades, and the man helping lead that charge just sat down with Host Dave Asprey to talk longevity science, aging biomarkers, dietary overhaul, AI in medicine, and what a real science-first health agenda actually looks like. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Jim O'Neill served as Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services and Acting Director of the CDC before being nominated to lead the National Science Foundation in March 2026. Before entering government, he was CEO of SENS Research Foundation, where he led cutting-edge regenerative medicine research targeting mitochondrial mutations, senescent cells, and neocortex rejuvenation. He is a 30-year veteran of health care reform and a genuine longevity insider. Dave and Jim cover the complete rewrite of federal dietary guidelines, the government's new randomized controlled trials on saturated fats, and why grains are no longer the core of a "balanced diet." They dig into a 144 million dollar ARPA H program to establish causal aging biomarkers that will unlock real anti-aging drug development and accelerate the kind of longevity research the SENS Foundation pioneered. Jim explains why current aging clocks and DNA methylation markers are not enough, and what comes next for functional medicine, sleep optimization, and metabolism research. They also break down the CDC's return to its infectious disease core, the future of AI in health care, wearable data for disease surveillance, organ bioprinting, GLP-1s, supplements like vitamin D, peptides, and the right to self-experiment. You will learn: Why the new federal dietary guidelines finally reject grain-centric nutrition and validate what the biohacking world has argued for 25 years How a 144 million dollar government program aims to build the causal biomarkers that will make real anti-aging and longevity drug development possible What Jim thinks about DNA methylation clocks and why better tools are needed to measure aging and human performance How AI is reshaping prescription refills, clinical decision support, Medicare reimbursement, and the future of functional medicine Why Jim wears an Oura Ring and uses sleep optimization data to make daily health decisions The government's evolving stance on peptides, supplements, and therapies that are not patent protected How organ bioprinting using a patient's own cells could solve the organ shortage crisis What real science replication looks like and why the government is now funding it What the CDC is doing to refocus on infectious disease while shedding mission creep How GLP-1s, fitness tracking, and updated nutrition strategies could significantly cut national obesity rates within five years Thank you to our sponsors! - Neuronic | Go to www.neuronic.online Code DAVE for $100 off - iRestore | Reverse hair loss with www.irestore.com/DAVE and get exclusive savings on the iRestore Elite, use code DAVE - Go to timeline.com/dave and save 20% with code DAVE20 - Superstratum Labs | Get Dave's exact home mold detox kit and save 10% at superstratumlabs.com/products/dave Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. BUFFALO, NY – April 10, 2026 – A new #editorial perspective was #published in Volume 17 of Oncotarget on April 8, 2026, titled “Oncotarget: Past, Present and Future: Trends in the publishing industry.” Authored by the Scientific Integrity Office at Oncotarget, the editorial comprehensively analyzes the journal's evolving approach to scientific integrity. It addresses historical challenges in scholarly publishing and discusses the necessity of modern image forensics tools to meet the most rigorous standards of scientific integrity. The Scientific Integrity Office describes how advances in digital technologies—particularly image forensics tools such as ImageTwin and analytical platforms like Argos—have transformed the ability to detect problematic data and analyze the quality of published research. The editorial emphasizes that the lack of adequate image tools in the “pre-tools” era limited journals' ability to detect image-related issues, underscoring the importance of recent technological advancements. It also highlights that Argos provides a good opportunity to obtain a more objective picture across different journals in both the pre- and post-tools era. Looking forward, Oncotarget advocates indexes for broader adoption of independent analytical and AI-based tools in journal evaluation. In the public interest, it also encourages open discussion of how indexes select, deselect, and reevaluate journals. Why does a podcast about capitalism want to talk about science?Modern capitalism and science have evolved together since the Enlightenment. Advances in ship building and navigation enabled the Age of Discovery, which opened up new trade routes and markets to European merchants. The invention of the spinning jinny and cotton in the 18th century spurred textile production. The United States' Department of Defense research and development agency helped create the precursor to the internet. The internet now supports software and media industries worth trillions of dollars. On the flip side, some of America's greatest capitalists and businesses, including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Bell Labs, gave us everything from electricity production to the transistor. Neither science nor capitalism can succeed without the other. However, science's star is now dimming. Part of this is due to political intervention. In the U.S., the federal government has cut funding for scientific research. The Covid-19 pandemic diminished the public's trust in scientific experts, which social media has exacerbated through misinformation. Restrictions on immigration may further hamper scientific research as some of the world's brightest minds lose access to funding and state-of-the-art facilities. But so too has capitalism played a hand in science's struggles. While corporations sponsor a significant portion of funding for scientific research, this funding too often comes with undisclosed conflicts of interest. Or corporate pressure may influence results in other ways.Stanford University professor John Ioannidis is a physician, writer, and one of the world's most-cited scientists. He studies the methodology and sociology of science itself: how the process and standards for empirical research influence findings in ways that some may find inaccurate. His 2005 essay "Why Most Published Research Findings Are False" is one of the most accessed articles in the history of Public Library of Science (PLOS), with more than three million views. Ioannidis joins Bethany and Luigi to discuss the future of the relationship between capitalism and science, how both will have to respond to contemporary politics, and how one even conceptualizes robust measurements of scientific success.Listen:Science for Sale, with David Michaels: Learn how corporate-funded science uses doubt to its patrons' advantage. The Money Behind Ultra-Processed Foods, with Marion Nestle: Examine the role of Big Food in public health. The Capitalisn't of the U.S. COVID Response: Understand the factors that exacerbated the pandemic's fallout for the most vulnerable in society.Read:Food for Thought: An excerpt from the second edition of Marion Nestle's book, Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health. How Conflicts of Interest Shape Trust in Academic Work: What is the impact of various conflicts of interest on readers' trust in academic research findings? They examine: Erica's firsthand experience as a participant in the original 2012 study that helped launch Roland Griffiths' prominence in psychedelic science. The goals and outcomes of the Religious Leader Study, which sought to explore how psilocybin might impact religious leaders' effectiveness and connection to their communities. The methodological and ethical problems that plagued the study. The influence of perennialist frameworks and the limitations of measures like the Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ). Broader concerns about the infiltration of religious ideology and lack of rigor in psychedelic science. A deep critique of the institutional systems that allowed flawed research processes to go unchecked — and how these patterns risk repeating the mistakes of the 1960s psychedelic wave. Professor Jon Jureidini is a child psychiatrist who leads the Critical and Ethical Mental Health research group at Adelaide University in Australia. His forensic deconstruction of industry-sponsored clinical trials has exposed how pharmaceutical companies manipulate data, employ ghostwriters, and cultivate academic figureheads to create an illusion of scientific consensus around their products. Prof. Jureidini has revealed how medications prescribed to our most vulnerable populations—children and adolescents—gained approval based on studies that were fundamentally misrepresented in the scientific literature. In his groundbreaking book, 'The Illusion of Evidence-Based Medicine: Exposing the crisis of credibility in clinical research,' co-authored with Leemon McHenry, he systematically demonstrates how commercial interests have hijacked the evidence base that clinicians rely on, compromising patient care in the process. His work raises profound questions about the integrity of published research and challenges us to reconsider the foundations of modern medicine. Jureidini reveals shocking findings about the landmark 'Treatment of Adolescent Depression Study (TADS) study that's been used to justify prescribing antidepressants to teenagers—despite evidence showing a five-fold increase in suicidal events. With nearly 20% of adolescent girls now taking SSRIs, this conversation exposes the profit-driven deception that puts millions of developing brains at risk while pharmaceutical companies continue to thrive on what Jureidini calls "the illusion of evidence-based medicineChapters00:00 Introduction to the Crisis in Psychiatry02:20 The Illusion of Evidence-Based Medicine04:34 The TADS Study: A Closer Look10:47 Evaluating the TADS Study's Findings14:22 The Ethics of Informed Consent26:28 Risks and Alternatives in Treatment32:59 The Controversy of Antidepressant Prescriptions35:46 Ethical Concerns in Pharmaceutical Practices40:29 The Impact of Clinical Trials on Drug Approval47:08 Challenges in Psychiatric Research and Publication50:29 Restoring Trust in Scientific Integrity58:20 A Shift Towards Social Determinants of Mental Health RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)10% off Lovetuner click here—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD!
