We're back! In 2020! Well, we took a hiatus for a while, and we'll get to that soon... but today we've got one of our older guests. It's Liza!We get to talking about the pandemic and how it's affected our lives, in education and personally too. It's time to look at things a bit more optimistically, and even though we don't know what the future holds... we're ready for it...Utter Rubbish will try to stay a lot more on schedule... no promises, though!
Today, Suzanne and I decided to talk about Christmas and the spirit of giving and ended up talking about AI, technology and a whole lot more. While it's not a focused topic, we do make some insightful points, if I may say so myself. Have a listen and laugh a lot....PS: Next week we grill Suzanne on how up-to-date she is with today's lingo... if you've got any to contribute, then do head over to our FB page and let us know....
The UAE is a prime destination for tourism, and as teachers in the UAE, it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best of what the UAE has to offer. Plus, it's winter and Christmas is on it's way! However, this may not always be easy on a teacher's salary. So, Suzanne and I decided to talk about a couple of things that may make it easy for you if you're planning to get your family here for very first time.It was fun reminiscing about the various times our respective family members have been here; and even though it's a short episode, I think we had fun.If you've got some tips, then do let us know on our FB page!
Winter's here.... the evenings are dark and gloomy... which means it's time to put on a show! You know... the one where kids go up on stage and make their parents proud. So how do the performing arts contribute to a child's holistic development? How important is it for a school to invest in a good performing arts program? What should parents and teachers be looking for in an annual production? We've got all the answers! Just keep listening....
Today, we talk about something fun - Movies and theater. We're big culture freaks and we love new experiences, which is why this was such a fun episode to do.Shout-outs to Greeshma and Vanshika for posting their favorite movies. Keep writing your comments.. and we will respond to it!
So we just got inspected (2 weeks ago) and we're sorry we couldn't put out a couple of episodes in between. But we're back! And we're here to talk about stress management.Stress hits us all, sometimes when we least expect it. Suzanne and I deconstruct what it's like to go through a week of inspections and whether it's worth the stress or not.Next week, we talk about our favorite movies and cultural things to do... So enjoy your weekend... and this episode of - Utter Rubbish!
We've all been there, and at some point you're either observing someone, or being observed yourself. This week I talk about what I've learned from my observation of a few teachers. We stress upon the importance of having a system in place, team work, planning and practicing in order to get better at your craft. We also talk about common missteps teachers new to this region could take and how to quickly correct them. Finally, we've managed to source two amazing sponsors with innovative products, and we've decided to endorse them.Enjoy!
This week, we take a question from one of our listeners, Aleena. She wants to know how to manage her students in class, more effectively, and that got us talking about strategies and our own experiences for the next half an hour.We also had Rachael in the studio, who contributed to the discussion. So if you're interested, perhaps we've got something for you...From technology and apps for Classroom Management, to strategies and activities. For examples, head over to our FB page where we've got pictures and videos.
Here's a little something for everyone. Parents, teachers, students... Today we're talking about differentiation; what it is, why it's so important and we try and explore it from all points of view. We've decided to get rid of sponsors for this week, we've got a little saved up from previous endorsements, and... why be greedy? So, it doesn't matter if you're a parent, teacher or student, differentiation is for everyone.
Today's really an important day. First of all we've hit 10 episodes! We never imagined that we'd do this for 10 weeks straight, but we are and we're having fun and we're still evolving as a show. Thank you to everyone who has helped us out so far.Second, we were surprised to be hit by a wave of questions that came seemingly out of nowhere. Being the consummate professionals that we are, both Suzanne and I came up with solutions on the spot. It's not easy being a podcaster, but then neither is being a teacher. We hope you enjoy this episode. While we're on the hunt for new sponsors, our current sponsors keep begging us to take them back, which is why we've featured 2 of them again. We're probably the only show with less than 10 listeners, and yet we're flooded with offers of fame and glory... Well, we do the best we can...
How do you know which path is right for you? What are you going to do with your life? Important questions... yes, but perhaps too much of a burden on the shoulders of a young teen. This week we talk about how to decide what to do with your life. Can you switch careers? Is there an alternate route to fulfilling your dreams? Also our take on the longevity of careers versus trying out something in various sectors of industry and how teachers benefit from having different experiences not always related to teaching.Enjoy the new episode and wait for the special announcement at the end!
