In this episode of the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Podcast, host Sherrod DeGrippo is joined by security researchers Elise Eldridge and Anna Seitz to discuss the most recent notable developments across the threat landscape. The threat actor, also known as Sandworm or APT44, has also been observed resuming the use of the wrappers WalnutWipe and SharpWipe, and expanded the use of the Prickly Pear malware downloader. The team highlights the geopolitical implications of these attacks, particularly in the context of Russia's influence on energy and global events. Sherrod also touches on the history of wipers in cyber operations and transitions to a discussion with Elise about trends in North Korean cyber activity, emphasizing Microsoft's ongoing efforts to analyze and mitigate these threats. In this episode you'll learn: Why recent attacks have targeted the European energy sector How Seashell Blizzard's attacks in 2024 involved spear-phishing campaigns Why North Korean hackers infiltrate companies through remote IT job programs Some questions we ask: How has Seashell Blizzard returned to using wipers, and what might explain this shift? After sending out crafted spear-phishing emails, what happens next in the attack chain? How might global geopolitics impact Seashell Blizzard's campaigns? Todd Wenning is a professional investor and writer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He's currently the author of the Flyover Stocks newsletter, which focuses on finding overlooked companies with economic moats that are led by thoughtful stewards of shareholder capital. Previously, Todd spent eight years on the buyside with Ensemble Capital and Johnson Investment Counsel, and three years on the sell-side with Morningstar where he led the firm's equity stewardship methodology and contributed to the company's book Why Moats Matter. Todd has written publicly about investing since 2006 when he joined The Motley Fool as a writer and financial editor. https://www.flyoverstocks.com/ We have a wonderful discussion about moats, managements, and playing the long game in investing. Todd shares the inspiration behind his newsletter Flyover Stocks, and we touch on a number of topics, and ideas that he has written about over the years. One of the stories includes Todd's wife, she is an avid seashell hunter. My wife and I have picked seashells on many occasions, so the story resonated with me. Todd explains what sea shell hunting can teach us about investing. Stay tuned until the end, where we take on the topic of crisis. My guest explains how crisis can make companies better, and stronger, and forge future winners. It's a wide-ranging, thoughtful discussion where more beginner and advanced investing enthusiasts will find something worth discovering. Todd was a joy to talk to, we had a lovely hour long recording. I highly recommend exploring his newsletter, and his writing. --- Crisis Investing: 100 Essays - My new book. Hello, everyone. Welcome or welcome back to 3-minute Japanese. We are staying with the topic, which is money. As announced in the previous episode, we are talking about the connection between money and the kanji for sea shell, “kai”. Why are there many money-related kanji characters have the sea shell element? It is because specific seashells were used as currency starting about 3,000 years ago in China. Here are the examples. Please refer to the show notes. 「財」ざい、zai, wealth 「貯」ちょ、cho, savings 「貸」たい、tai, lending 「買」ばい、bai, buying Here are the two-character words: 二字熟語の例は以下の通りです。 Let's focus on the word and character of buy, 「買う」. The sounds to buy in Japanese and German, “kau” and “kaufen” are similar. The former is believed to derive from the word exchange, “kau”. The latter is believed to derive from the Latin word innkeeper or shopkeeper, caupo. There is another coincidence that we see in the kanji for “buy”. There are two ways to read the character, which are 「かう」 and 「バイ」. This also seems to be just a coincidence. I hope you enjoyed the past 4 episodes of the money series. In the next episode, I'd like to talk about the word “ki,” which describes energy, air, mood, attention, and care. Stay tuned. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/juliasachiko/message

In this set of collected, connected conversations (the penultimate episode in our Summer '22 series): Neech the Vote! Was it really a year ago that Canada held its last federal election?
