Ryan and Coulter discuss AMC's Better Call Saul, the incredibly well made spin-off/prequel of Breaking Bad. While Saul may have started slowly, it has earned a spot amongst TV's best shows and is making a run at is predecessor as a Mount Rushmore show. Ryan and Coulter breakdown the many plotlines that make this show so good, discuss some of the new characters like Kim Wexler, Nacho and Lalo Salamanca. Needless to say, if you have not watched Saul or Breaking Bad, there are a lot of spoilers. And if you haven't seen either of those shows, please go watch them now. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/double-down-trent/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/double-down-trent/support

In this episode: A review of the main characters, and a thought experiment- if each character in Better Call Saul were a super hero, what would their special power be. In other words, what theme do they bring to the show. Finally, we will discuss the “Svengali Effect” to see if Charles McGill’s accusations about his little brother are true. Is Jimmy a Svengali? A sociopathic mesmerizing mastermind? Or is Charles seeing the worst in his little brother, as he always does. We are going to hold Jimmy McGill up to the criteria of what it means to be manipulative sociopath to understand the psychology behind this beloved character. UPC is a Forensic, Psychology, and True Crime Podcast that takes on: True Crime: serial killers, murders, stalkers, cults, forensic analysis Psychology: mental illness, social phenomenon, mob mentality, psychoanalysis, etc. Culture: Sexuality, Satanic Panic, love, Tv analysis, movie analysis. Once upon a time, there was a girl who grew up to be the most successful boxer in India’s history. Her name was Mary Kom. Mary was an energetic child who was naturally drawn towards sports. So she enrolled herself in a sports academy where she discovered her love of boxing, but her trainers thought she was too small. Still, Mary sparred until she improved her technique, showing up early and staying late to train. She was terrified her parents would stop her, but they eventually grew to be her biggest supporters. With her nation and family’s support, Mary boxed her way to the Olympic Games and inspired generations to come.Sponsored by:www.rebelgirls.co Use promocode REBELPODCAST to get 15% off your first purchase!About the Narrator:Poorna Jagannathan is an award-winning actress and producer. Eric and Tom talk crime-noire as they discuss HBO's True Detective and AMC's Better Call Saul
Few TV shows are better than AMC's Better Call Saul. But if you told that to someone in 2015, when the show debuted, they might look at you askance. Yes, the show was a spinoff from Breaking Bad, one of the most acclaimed TV shows ever made, but it was still a spinoff, a format with an oft-indistinguished legacy. It was so easy to see how this series could have gone wrong. Instead, the show's writers, led by co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, have turned Better Call Saul into a sad funhouse mirror of Breaking Bad, a show about a man who desperately kept trying to do the right thing but couldn't escape all of the people who suspected he would just do the wrong thing instead — or, for that matter, his own weakness for ethical shortcuts. Now four seasons in, Better Call Saul has traced the descent of would-be do-gooder Jimmy McGill into the sleazy, skeezy Saul Goodman in painstaking detail, but in a way that still feels distinct from Breaking Bad. So this week, in the wake of the terrific fourth season finale, Gould, now the show's sole showrunner, joins Todd to talk about the early days of crafting the show, why comedic actors are so good at drama, and why Jimmy made the choices he did in the fourth season finale. If you're not caught up, the first two-thirds of this podcast are spoiler-free — and we'll be sure to let you know before the spoilers kick in. Learn more about your ad choices. Jim and A.Ron are excited to see a return of tension and intrigue with the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul. The traditional Jimmy scam gets a Kim-style twist that was very well executed. Don Hector receiving his bell was perhaps unnecessary, but it was really fun to watch. The drama with Werner and the explosives and his ensuing escape attempt fueled the episode with much needed suspense. Finally, Jimmy and Kim's roof-top blow-up was as volcanic as it was tragic, uncomfortable, and real. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We found ourselves in the minority of fans after watching AMC's Better Call Saul's latest episode, "Coushatta". While not a bad episode per se, Jim and I were both let down by the actual scheme to befuddle the DA for Huell's case, and taken off guard by the sudden shift in what we perceived as Kim's character. On the other hand, caching up with Nacho was a rewarding experience, and we're truly excited by the possibilities Lalo entering the picture presents. Learn more about your ad choices. Despite a warp speed, nearly ten month jump ahead in time, AMC's Better Call Saul proceeds in a deliberate pace, offering just over 40 minutes of content, with just under 9 minutes of montage filling the screen time. Gus has healed Hector to the exact level he needs for his revenge plot. Mike is struggling with an over budget superlab and a crew of bored and increasingly sloppy Germans, and Kim and Jimmy's relationship is on life support. And that's before Jimmy comes to Kim with a big ask to save Huell. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We discuss the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Piñata". Gus gets really creepy, Kim gently closes the door on the law offices of Wexler and McGill, Mike shows the Germans some American hospitality after making peace with his daughter in law, and Jimmy puts the fear of Saul into some local punks. We discuss all this plus a ton of great feedback! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Jim and A.Ron tackle a very good and very Kim and Jimmy episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Quite a Ride". A taste of BrBa-era Saul! The origins of the Superlab! The return of grifting at the ol' Dog House and the Wash Tub! Lots of nostalgia and lots of great character development and a very fun montage anchor this episode and make it a stand out. Plus, we talk therapy, Kim theories, thoughts on Gus' background and much more in our feedback section! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

AMC's Better Call Saul delivers the goods in another tense episode, reminding us to "Breathe". Between Gus's high stakes plot to squeeze the Salamanca gang by taking ownership of Nacho to Kim's blistering of Howard in his own firm over his callous treatment of Jimmy, this episode had plenty of fireworks. Speaking of Jimmy, the real mystery that is driving a lot of the intrigue this season is the man himself. What's going on with him? We ponder this and more with the help of plenty of fan feedback!
