Episode: #394 Hosts: Andy Shiles & Lalo Solorzano Guest: Eric Hargraves Director – Elliott Davis LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-hargraves-98a4572/ Firm: Elliott Davis — https://www.linkedin.com/company/elliott-davis-1920/ Published : November 20, 2025 Length: ~34 minutes Presented by: Global Training Center Episode Overview In this in-depth roundtable discussion, Andy and Lalo welcome back Eric Hargraves, a listener favorite and trade policy expert known for breaking down complex issues with clarity. This episode tackles one of the hottest topics in global trade: the future of tariffs, IEEPA, and how the Supreme Court's upcoming decision could reshape U.S. trade policy. Eric shares his early analysis of the recent Supreme Court oral arguments on the use of IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) to impose broad, country-wide tariffs—an approach now under scrutiny. Together, they explore whether the U.S. is shifting away from country-of-origin-based tariffs toward sector-based or product-based tariff frameworks, and what that means for importers, exporters, and manufacturers. They also take a historical walk through Section 232 and 301, discuss China's role in the global supply chain, unpack forced labor concerns, and examine how trade policy is being used not just as an economic tool—but a geopolitical one. If your business relies on global sourcing, supply chain planning, cost modeling, or tariff strategy, this is a must-listen episode that cuts through political noise and focuses on operational reality. Host: Lalo Solorzano Guest: Elena Ryan, Special Advisor, CBP Published: September 11, 2025 Length: ~42 minutes Presented by: Global Training Center In this special episode, Lalo sits down with Elena Ryan of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to unpack the details of the new continuing education requirement for Licensed Customs Brokers. Elena walks through how the program came to life, what the triennial cycle means, and why CBP designed the credit system to balance rigor with accessibility. From free training opportunities to the role of accreditors, this conversation offers brokers and training providers a clear look into what compliance will mean through 2027. You'll also hear how CBP is working with industry to ensure flexibility, transparency, and professionalization of the broker community. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How CBP's continuing education requirement for brokers came into effect What the triennial cycle is and how the 2025–2027 cycle works The role of the five private accreditors + CBP in assigning credit How free and low-cost training options (including CBP webinars) fit in Why continuing education strengthens the professionalization of customs brokers Key Takeaways: Brokers must complete 20 credits for the current 2025–2027 cycle (instead of 36). CBP emphasized accessibility: credits can come from private providers, associations, and free CBP/OGA webinars. Accreditors ensure fair credit assignment, but brokers themselves must track their education for audits. National permits and automation have transformed broker operations, making education more important than ever. Continuing education puts brokers on par with other licensed professions, raising the bar for the industry.

Hosts: Lalo Solorzano & Andy Shiles Guest: Jason Weiselman, International Bond & Marine Published: August 13, 2025 Length: ~42 minutes Presented by: Global Training Center When Bonds Become Billion-Dollar News Bonds may not be glamorous, but they're the backbone of trade. In this episode, Lalo and Andy sit down with Jason Wieselman of International Bond & Marine to unpack why customs bonds are suddenly front-page news — and what every importer needs to know to keep shipments moving. With tariffs surging and de minimis rules shifting, importers are facing unprecedented bond requirements — in some cases reaching hundreds of millions or even a billion dollars. Jason explains what this means for both large and small importers, why sureties are more involved than ever, and how logistics professionals can navigate the complexity without grinding their supply chains to a halt. From errors & omissions insurance to the rise of the so-called “unicorn bond,” this conversation explores the risks, realities, and strategies every trade nerd should understand in today's environment. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why higher tariffs are driving massive increases in bond requirements How importers can forecast and calculate the right bond amount What the first billion-dollar bond means for the future of trade The role of errors & omissions and cyber insurance in compliance today Why you shouldn't blindly accept CBP's bond letters without running the numbers Key Takeaways: Higher tariffs directly impact bond requirements, sometimes by massive amounts. Importers must calculate bond amounts carefully — don't just accept CBP's defaults. The first billion-dollar bond signals a new era of risk management in trade. Errors & omissions and cyber insurance are growing priorities for trade professionals. Sureties and brokers are becoming more like strategic advisors than silent backers. After our journey in part 1 into anxiety and depression, we follow Matt Haig's recovery, as detailed in his fine book ‘Reasons To Stay Alive', and talk about all the great stuff in life, both big and small, with a little help from some of Antony's friends and family -thanks again to all contributors- as he approaches his half century (hence the title). Along the way, we explore regrets of the dying, how a healthy attitude to death can enhance our lives, and those moments of ‘the sublime' that we experience a lot as children but seem to ‘grow out of' as we pass into adulthood. Declutter your soul, travel, take some exercise, express gratitude, stroke an animal, do whatever works… We hope you enjoy the show! If so, please subscribe, like, share etc... In the final chapter of our three-part mezcal documentary, we turn our focus to the present and future of the category. Visiting the progressive palenque Lalocura and speaking with its founder, Eduardo Ángeles Carreno, AKA Lalo, we explore how industrialization, monoculture, and loose regulations threaten mezcal's roots. We also learn how traditional producers are fighting back — and what that means for your next bottle. With insight from Lalo, our travel companion Ivan Vazquez, and voices across Oaxaca, we ask: Can mezcal stay true to itself as it conquers the world? And where — if anywhere — do cocktails fit into that future?

We present the first of two episodes in the lead-up to Antony's upcoming milestone birthday. The main part of this episode features extracts from the first two sections of Matt Haig's excellent and popular 2015 book ‘Reasons To Stay Alive'. This profound, readable and sometimes humorous book details Haig's recovery from ‘a sustained bout of anxiety and depression', and Antony interjects with (hopefully useful) observations and ideas for containment of negative feelings and emotions. This is preceded by a look at anxiety and depression in terms of definitions, causes, symptoms and possible treatments. We hope you enjoy the show! If so, please subscribe, like, share etc...
