Host: Lalo Solorzano, Denise Smalls-Altagracia Published: June 2, 2026 Length: 20:17 Presented by: Global Training Center Summary In this Simply Trade Tips episode, Lalo Solorzano and Denise Smalls-Altagracia break down one of the most important but often misunderstood parts of U.S. import compliance: Partner Government Agencies, or PGAs. While many importers focus mainly on CBP, duties, tariffs, and broker filings, Denise explains why customs clearance is often much bigger than paperwork and duty payments. PGAs regulate the products themselves, covering areas such as public health, safety, agriculture, environmental standards, transportation, and security. That means an entry may look correct from a customs perspective but still be delayed, detained, or refused if agency-specific requirements are missed. Denise also highlights common agencies importers may encounter, including FDA, USDA, APHIS, EPA, and CPSC, and explains why documentation, product classification, and early planning are essential. This episode matters because PGA compliance directly affects speed, predictability, cost control, and supply chain reliability. Importers who understand agency requirements before shipments move are far better positioned to avoid costly surprises and keep trade moving. Main Topic / Discussion This episode focuses on Partner Government Agencies and their role in the import process. Lalo and Denise explain that CBP may serve as the primary border authority, but PGAs are the subject matter experts that determine whether certain products meet U.S. requirements and can legally enter commerce. The discussion covers what PGAs are, why they matter, which agencies importers commonly encounter, what documentation may be required, and how PGA compliance should be treated as a business function rather than a last-minute customs task. Key Takeaways • PGAs are federal agencies that work with CBP to regulate specific imported products. • Import compliance is not only about duties, tariffs, and customs paperwork. • Agencies such as FDA, USDA, APHIS, EPA, and CPSC may require additional documentation or review depending on the product. • Missing or inaccurate PGA information can lead to delays, detention, refusal, penalties, or supply chain disruption. • Strong PGA compliance improves shipment speed, predictability, cost control, and business reputation. • Companies should identify agency requirements before purchase orders are issued or goods are shipped. Host: Lalo Solorzano and Trudy Wilson Guest(s): N/A Published: May 27, 2026 Length: 16:11 Presented by: Global Training Center Summary In this episode of Simply Trade, Lalo Solorzano and Trudy Wilson continue the Trudy's Trade Tips series with another practical discussion on USMCA. This time, the focus is on documentation, certification requirements, and why tariff classification is the foundation for making accurate free trade agreement claims. Trudy explains one of the biggest changes from NAFTA to USMCA: the old formal certificate of origin is gone. Instead, companies must ensure their USMCA certification contains the required minimum data elements, regardless of the format used. That flexibility can be helpful, but it also creates room for confusion when documents are unclear or incomplete. The conversation also highlights the importance of identifying the certifier, exporter, producer, and importer, along with product descriptions, classifications, origin criteria, blanket periods, and certification statements. Trudy and Lalo then explain why tariff classification must come before USMCA qualification. If a company does not understand the classification of the finished product and its components, it cannot properly apply USMCA rules of origin. This episode matters because USMCA savings are valuable, but only when claims are documented, supported, and correctly qualified. Main Topic / Discussion This episode focuses on the documentation requirements for USMCA and the importance of tariff classification in determining whether goods qualify under the agreement. Trudy explains that USMCA no longer requires the old NAFTA certificate format. Instead, companies must provide the required minimum data elements in whatever format they choose. This includes identifying the certifier, exporter, producer, and importer, along with the product description, tariff classification, origin criterion, blanket period, authorized signature, date, and certification statement. A key point is that documentation must be clear. If a shipment includes both USMCA-qualifying goods and non-qualifying goods, the paperwork must clearly identify which items qualify. Mixing unclear origin declarations with USMCA claims can create confusion and risk. The discussion then shifts to tariff classification. Lalo and Trudy emphasize that “all roads lead to the HTS.” USMCA qualification depends on understanding the classification of the finished product and the classifications of the components, parts, or ingredients used to make it. Without that foundation, companies cannot properly apply product-specific rules or determine whether a tariff shift has occurred. Key Takeaways • USMCA does not require the old NAFTA certificate form, but it does require specific minimum data elements. • Companies may use their own format for USMCA certification as long as the required information is included. • The certifier, exporter, producer, and importer must be clearly identified with the required contact details. • Documentation must clearly show which goods qualify for USMCA and which do not. • Tariff classification is the foundation for USMCA qualification. • Companies must know the classification of the finished good and the components used to make it. • Product-specific rules under USMCA depend on classification and often require analyzing tariff shifts. • Lalo and Trudy recommend understanding tariff classification before taking on USMCA qualification work. Host: Lalo Solorzano Published: May 21, 2026 Length: ~22 min. Presented by: Global Training Center Summary In this special 500th episode of Simply Trade, Lalo Solorzano steps behind the mic solo for the first time to reflect on how the podcast began, how it has evolved, and where it may be headed next. What started during the pandemic as a way to recreate the casual, meaningful trade conversations usually found at conferences has grown into a platform with multiple hosts, recurring segments, conference partnerships, and a loyal trade community. Lalo shares the origin story of the show, from its early days with Andy Shiles to the addition of voices like Annik, Cindy Allen, Renee, Julie, Warrington Ellicott, Trudy, and others. He also talks openly about the challenges of producing a podcast, the decision to remain mostly sponsor-free, and the importance of keeping the show focused on authentic conversations rather than outside influence. This milestone episode is part reflection, part roadmap, and part thank-you note to the listeners, hosts, partners, and trade professionals who have helped Simply Trade reach 500 episodes. Main Topic / Discussion This episode centers on the 500-episode milestone of Simply Trade and the evolution of the podcast from a pandemic-era idea into a broader trade media platform. Lalo reflects on the show's beginnings, the people who helped shape it, and the different series that have emerged over time, including Cindy's trade commentary, Canadian-focused episodes, professional development tips, conference partnerships, and potential future segments. He also shares what may be coming next, including more trade crime episodes, possible Mexico-focused content, renewed “Simply Trade Folks” conversations, and more technology-focused discussions around AI and trade tools. Key Takeaways • Simply Trade began as a way to recreate informal trade conversations during the pandemic. • The show has grown from a simple host-led podcast into a larger platform with multiple voices and recurring segments. • Lalo wants the podcast to remain authentic, open, and mostly free from sponsor influence. • Future content may include trade crime stories, Mexico-focused episodes, technology discussions, and more career-centered conversations with trade professionals. Jackson Boxer and Eduardo “Lalo” Yishima joined us at TAQ to talk about relaunching one of London's original Mexican restaurants into something far more ambitious, produce-led and reflective of modern Mexican cuisine. Jackson explained how the former Taqueria had become trapped trying to compete on cheapness rather than quality, despite having an incredible location and loyal following. The pair discussed how London's understanding of Mexican food has transformed over the last 20 years, with diners now far more educated and excited by authentic flavours, proper tortillas and regional cooking. Bringing Lalo back from Mexico to lead the kitchen allowed them to completely rethink the menu, from nixtamalized heritage corn tortillas to carnitas, tuna tostadas and deeply flavourful salsas that feel genuinely rooted in Mexico while using exceptional British produce.A huge part of the conversation centred around ingredients and the realities of running restaurants in modern London. Jackson spoke passionately about using rare breed pork, Yorkshire grass-fed beef and whole Cornish tuna across the restaurant group, while Lalo described the emotional significance of properly nixtamalized tortillas and imported Mexican chilis. The pair explained how London diners are now sophisticated enough to appreciate bold, complex Mexican flavours and why TAQ's relaunch focused on quality and value rather than racing to the bottom on pricing. Jackson also opened up about the pressures restaurateurs face today — from social media expectations to shrinking margins — while teasing his upcoming Exmouth Market opening, Vespa, where dishes like coal-grilled squid stuffed with pork and prawn boudin will headline the menu.To close, the conversation drifted into travel, comfort food and personal inspirations. Jackson recommended an Italian train journey through Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples as the ultimate food weekend, while Lalo made a passionate case for Buenos Aires and Argentina's bakery, pizza and wine culture. Their “Go To Hall of Fame” dishes perfectly reflected the emotional core of the episode: Lalo chose his mother's pozole, a deeply nostalgic Mexican soup tied to his childhood, while Jackson described his mother's fruit tarts made with hand-grated frozen butter pastry as one of the greatest things he's ever eaten. Across the episode, what stood out most was the pair's shared belief that food is ultimately about generosity, memory and craft — whether that's a taco, a trompo, a tart or a late-night tortilla folded around cheese and hot sauce.Watch and Subscribe To Our Youtube Videos Here - https://www.youtube.com/@gotofoodOrder Ben's Incredible Book - All You Can Eat - By Clicking Here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-You-Can-Eat-British/dp/1805221523Get 2 Months of Blinq For Free - With Code - GOTOBLINQ - https://blinqme.com/Order The Greatest Meat In The Country From HG Walter Here & Have Restaurant Quality Meals From Home - www.hgwalter.com Hosted on Acast. The encounter between Piers Morgan and Russell Brand in April was, if nothing else, compelling and revealing. Despite their very different personae, they have had strangely similar journeys through some of the darker aspects of media and come out the other side, each now positioning himself as part of ‘alternative media', whatever that exactly means, while still in contact with the mainstream. Antony breaks down a quite bizarre conversation, with both protagonists wrestling for control and trying to direct things into the areas they would prepare to discuss. There are a few truth bombs detonated here, which many alt. media commentators seem to have missed as they focus only on a few moments of dead air. Did Piers and Russell simply expose one another for who & what they are? How sincere are they, or is it all a grift from people well schooled in how to capture attention and often direct it? You decide (the full interview is in the show notes) Following this, Antony offers a book recommendation, a couple of comments on a mental health shenanigans, and a few details of an amazing athletic achievement in London a few weeks ago Enjoy! Greg Davidson is the Co-Founder and CEO of Lalo, a modern baby and toddler brand built around the idea that new parents deserve better: better design, better guidance, and products that actually grow with their kids. Greg's path to founding a baby brand is not what you'd expect. He came up through a series of fast-growing startups in sales and go-to-market roles at Elastic, Krossover, WayUp, and Artsy before co-founding Lalo in 2017 with his former WayUp colleague, Michael Wieder. Neither of them had kids at the time. His first child was born in 2020, just after officially launching the business in 2019 and right before a global pandemic. They were somehow still able to grow 400% that first year. Lalo has since raised a $10.1 million series A, and expanded into Target, Babylist, Pottery Barn Kids and beyond. Greg is based in Miami and is a dad of three.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode of Simply Trade, host Lalo Solorzano is joined by Trudy Wilson, longtime Global Training Center instructor and trade compliance expert, for the first installment of what Lalo calls “Trudy's Trade Tips.” This conversation focuses on a foundational topic that continues to create confusion across import and export teams: Incoterms 2020. Trudy breaks down why companies should not simply default to familiar terms like FOB or Ex Works, especially when containerized freight, export filing, loading responsibility, and risk exposure are involved. Key Takeaways Incoterms are voluntary, but they help buyers and sellers clearly define responsibility. There are 11 Incoterms, but most companies should focus primarily on the 7 “any mode” terms. FOB, CIF, CFR, and FAS are often misused when goods are moving in containers. “Ocean shipment” does not automatically mean one of the ocean-only terms applies. Ex Works may look simple for the seller, but it can create serious compliance and operational risk. Export filing, proof of export, loading responsibility, and product destination still matter. AI and automation can help, but trade professionals still need the foundation to validate results. Featured Discussion Trudy explains why the four sea and inland waterway terms should generally be reserved for goods that are “pumped or dumped” onto a vessel, such as oil, grain, minerals, or ore. For most containerized shipments, even when moving by ocean, companies should usually be evaluating the seven any-mode Incoterms instead. She also cautions against the casual use of Ex Works, reminding exporters that “easy” does not always mean low risk. Memorable Quote “If you don't have the foundation right, you're going to have issues with the tariffs anyway.” Hosts Lalo Solorzano Trudy Wilson About Simply Trade Simply Trade is a podcast by Global Training Center, created for trade compliance professionals, importers, exporters, customs brokers, and supply chain leaders who want practical conversations about global trade.

Tony Katz and Fingers Malloy step away from bourbon for a rare tequila-focused Happy Hour, pouring LALO Tequila Blanco and finding a surprisingly smooth, easy-sipping pour with notes of agave, citrus, tropical fruit, and a little creaminess on the palate. Tony tries tequila because of Passover restrictions, Fingers brings the bottle on a recommendation from a liquor store clerk, and the two of them try to figure out whether this blanco belongs in the liquor cabinet at around $45 a bottle. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus's head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed, for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb, and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' ” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them that he had said these things to her. Bakit sila nakaupo? Today's featured artist is, I hope, a name that some of you will at least have heard of: the French mezzo-soprano Germaine Cernay, born Germaine Pointu in Le Havre in 1900 and dying tragically young of an epileptic event in war-torn Paris at the age of only 43. Here is an artist who strikes a balance between poise and white heat, with a voice of exquisite timbre anchored by a flawless technique. Between making her debut at the Opéra-Comique in 1927 and her early retirement from her singing career the year before her death with the intention of becoming a nun, Cernay was a prodigious recording artist and a habituée of both the operatic stage and the concert platform. Today's episode presents her in her core operatic repertoire (Debussy, Fauré, Mascagni, Bizet, Thomas, and Saint-Saëns), with a strong emphasis on the works of Jules Massenet (Werther, Don Quichotte, Thérèse, Le Cid, Hérodiade, Sapho). Cernay is also heard at the outer edges of the mélodie repertoire, singing songs by Charles Bordes, Xavier Leroux, and Georges Dandelot, alongside the more familiar Lalo, Chabrier, and Brahms, not to forget a smattering of operetta. Some of her strongest recordings feature stellar contributions by fellow singers Georges Thill, Arthur Endrèze, André d'Arkor, Roger Bourdin, and Charles Friant. In recent years, even without a sytstematic reissue of her recorded oeuvre, her reputation has only increased, and she is now recognized as a standard-bearer of the French mezzo-soprano repertoire. Countermelody is the podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and author yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. Hosts: Lalo Solorzano Guests: Eric Hargraves – Elliott Davis Cindy Allen – Trade Force Multiplier Mark Segrist – Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Recorded Live At: The International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA) Annual Conference in San Antonio. Episode Summary In this special live conference episode, Lalo sits down with three trade experts at the ICPA Annual Conference to unpack one of the biggest trade law developments in years: the Supreme Court ruling limiting the use of IEEPA for tariff authority. Together, Eric Hargraves, Cindy Allen, and Mark Segrist break down what the decision actually means, how the administration pivoted immediately to other tariff tools, and why importers should not assume refunds are guaranteed. The conversation dives into the legal fallout, enforcement uncertainty, and compliance strategies companies should be thinking about right now, including protests, litigation strategies, and how trade compliance is rapidly becoming a C-suite level issue. If you're trying to understand the real-world impact of the ruling, tariff stacking, and what actions importers should be taking today, this discussion delivers practical insight straight from the conference floor. Key Takeaways The Supreme Court Limited Presidential Tariff Authority Under IEEPA The Court ruled that the president cannot impose tariffs using IEEPA, emphasizing that taxation powers belong to Congress under the Constitution. The Administration Immediately Pivoted to Other Tools With IEEPA tariffs struck down, the administration quickly shifted toward Section 122 and other statutory authorities, showing that tariff policy will continue through different mechanisms. Tariff Stacking and Complexity Are Increasing Importers now face potential layers of tariffs under Section 232, Section 301, Section 122, and other mechanisms, making duty calculations and compliance far more complex. Refunds Are Not Guaranteed Even though the ruling invalidated certain tariffs, experts warn that refunds are not automatic, and companies must actively preserve their rights. Importers Must Take Action Now Companies should be monitoring liquidation dates, filing protests when necessary, and considering litigation options to protect their ability to recover duties. Trade Compliance Is Now a Strategic Function Trade and customs issues have moved from back-office compliance work to strategic discussions at the executive level, impacting supply chains, costs, and global operations. Notable Topics Discussed The Supreme Court decision on IEEPA tariffs Section 122 as the administration's immediate fallback tool How tariff stacking affects real duty rates Litigation strategies and the growing role of the Court of International Trade Why companies should file protests and protect their refund rights The rise of trade compliance as a strategic corporate function Resources & References International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA) ICPA on LinkedIn ICPA LinkedIn Group About the Guests Eric Hargraves A trade and customs specialist with Elliott Davis who advises companies on navigating complex regulatory frameworks and trade enforcement issues. Hosts: Lalo Solorzano & Andy Shiles Episode Length: ~ 44 min. Published: February 25, 2026 Episode Summary The Supreme Court has ruled on the use of IEEPA tariffs — and the trade community immediately started asking the same question: Now what? In this episode of Simply Trade, Lalo and Andy break down what the SCOTUS decision really means (and just as importantly, what it does not mean). They walk through the operational, financial, and compliance implications for importers, including refund strategies, protests, PSC filings, and what role the Court of International Trade may still play. This is not a political conversation — it's a practical one. If you're an importer, broker, trade attorney, or compliance leader trying to understand next steps, this episode gives you the strategic roadmap. Key Discussion Points What the Supreme Court actually ruled on regarding IEEPA What this decision does not affect (Section 232, 301, etc.) Whether importers should file PSCs, protests, or wait The role of the Court of International Trade (CIT) Refund timing and cash flow implications The possibility of alternative tariff authorities (including Section 122) Why internal data analysis is critical right now How compliance programs can prepare for future shifts Why This Matters For companies that paid duties under IEEPA authority, this decision could mean: Significant refund opportunities Strategic filing decisions Litigation exposure Executive-level reporting requirements Reassessment of long-term sourcing strategy But acting too quickly — or without data — could create unnecessary risk. Lalo and Andy emphasize that now is the time for: Data gathering Executive briefings Controlled decision-making Clear documentation A strong compliance foundation Practical Takeaways Don't assume automatic refunds — process matters. Evaluate PSC vs. protest options carefully. Monitor CIT developments closely. Keep leadership informed with quantified impact analysis. Use this moment to strengthen your compliance framework.
