Hosts: Lalo Solorzano & Andy Shiles Episode Length: ~ 44 min. Published: February 25, 2026 Episode Summary The Supreme Court has ruled on the use of IEEPA tariffs — and the trade community immediately started asking the same question: Now what? In this episode of Simply Trade, Lalo and Andy break down what the SCOTUS decision really means (and just as importantly, what it does not mean). They walk through the operational, financial, and compliance implications for importers, including refund strategies, protests, PSC filings, and what role the Court of International Trade may still play. This is not a political conversation — it's a practical one. If you're an importer, broker, trade attorney, or compliance leader trying to understand next steps, this episode gives you the strategic roadmap. Key Discussion Points What the Supreme Court actually ruled on regarding IEEPA What this decision does not affect (Section 232, 301, etc.) Whether importers should file PSCs, protests, or wait The role of the Court of International Trade (CIT) Refund timing and cash flow implications The possibility of alternative tariff authorities (including Section 122) Why internal data analysis is critical right now How compliance programs can prepare for future shifts Why This Matters For companies that paid duties under IEEPA authority, this decision could mean: Significant refund opportunities Strategic filing decisions Litigation exposure Executive-level reporting requirements Reassessment of long-term sourcing strategy But acting too quickly — or without data — could create unnecessary risk. Lalo and Andy emphasize that now is the time for: Data gathering Executive briefings Controlled decision-making Clear documentation A strong compliance foundation Practical Takeaways Don't assume automatic refunds — process matters. Evaluate PSC vs. protest options carefully. Monitor CIT developments closely. Keep leadership informed with quantified impact analysis. Use this moment to strengthen your compliance framework. From commercial invoices and packing lists to certificates, statements, and agency-specific requirements, trade compliance still lives in PDFs, emails, spreadsheets, and inboxes. Jack, Ned, and Sepehr break down how DocUnlock is using AI to extract, structure, validate, and operationalize trade documents — turning static paperwork into usable compliance data. The conversation dives into real-world brokerage and importer pain points, why “document accuracy” is no longer enough, and how automation is shifting expectations across customs, PGAs, and supply chain partners. This episode is a must-listen for anyone dealing with high-volume imports, broker workflows, or compliance teams stretched thin. Key Takeaways Trade compliance is still dominated by unstructured documents — and that's the bottleneck. AI can extract and normalize data without replacing trade expertise. Document automation reduces risk, speeds releases, and improves audit readiness. Brokers and importers benefit differently — but both win when documents are usable data. The future of compliance isn't fewer documents — it's smarter ones. What DocUnlock Is Solving Commercial invoices & packing lists Certificates & trade declarations Broker-importer document handoffs Audit readiness & data traceability Scaling compliance without scaling headcount Resources & Mentions DocUnlock – AI-powered trade document automation
In this episode of Always Strikes Last, we're joined by Lalo and Luis from Team Mexico to talk about the rapidly growing competitive Age of Sigmar scene in Mexico. They share what the community looks like today, how events are forming, and what's driving more players toward competitive play across the region. The conversation covers:
This Day in Legal History: League of Nations MeetsOn January 23, 1920, the League of Nations held its first official meeting, marking a major experiment in international law and collective governance. The League was created in the aftermath of World War I as part of the Treaty of Versailles. Its core mission was to prevent future wars through diplomacy, arbitration, and collective security. For the first time, nations committed themselves to resolving disputes through legal mechanisms rather than unilateral force. The League also helped develop early norms of international accountability and treaty enforcement. It established permanent institutions to oversee mandates, labor standards, and minority protections. Although the United States never joined, the League influenced how international law was discussed and practiced. Its failures, particularly its inability to prevent aggression in the 1930s, exposed the limits of voluntary compliance without enforcement power. Those weaknesses became lessons for later international institutions. Many of the League's structures and legal concepts were later incorporated into the United Nations. The League's first meeting thus represents a foundational moment in the modern law of international cooperation.U.S. President Donald Trump filed a $5 billion lawsuit in Florida state court against JPMorgan Chase and its CEO Jamie Dimon, alleging that the bank improperly closed his accounts for political reasons. Trump claims JPMorgan violated its own internal policies by singling him out as part of a broader political agenda. The bank denied the allegations, stating it does not close accounts based on political or religious views and that the lawsuit lacks merit. Trump also accused Dimon of orchestrating a “blacklist” intended to discourage other financial institutions from doing business with him, his family, and the Trump Organization. He said the account closures caused reputational harm and forced him to seek alternative banking relationships. JPMorgan countered that account closures are sometimes required to manage legal or regulatory risk. The lawsuit comes amid broader political scrutiny of banks over alleged “debanking” practices. Conservative critics have accused lenders of restricting services to certain individuals and industries. A recent report from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency found that major banks limited services to some industries between 2020 and 2023, though it did not identify specific wrongdoing. Regulators have since moved away from using vague “reputational risk” standards in bank supervision.Trump sues JPMorgan, CEO Jamie Dimon for $5 billion over alleged debanking | ReutersFormer U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith told the House Judiciary Committee that Donald Trump willfully violated the law in his efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 presidential election. Smith testified that Trump was not seeking truthful information about election fraud claims but instead was searching for ways to block certification of the results. The hearing marked Smith's first extensive public testimony about the two criminal cases he brought against Trump, both of which were dropped after Trump won reelection in 2024. Republicans on the committee accused Smith of political bias and argued his investigation improperly targeted Trump and his allies. They focused on Smith's use of subpoenas for phone records of Republican lawmakers, portraying the actions as overreach. Smith defended those measures as necessary to investigate potential obstruction of justice. He said Republican witnesses who contradicted Trump's fraud claims would have been central to the election interference case. Trump responded by renewing calls for Smith to be prosecuted and accusing him of harming innocent people. Democrats on the panel defended Smith as a career prosecutor guided by evidence rather than politics.Former US prosecutor Smith says Trump ‘willfully broke' laws in bid to keep power | ReutersA federal judge expressed skepticism about whether the Trump administration has the legal authority to build a $400 million ballroom at the White House without congressional approval. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon questioned the administration's justification for demolishing the historic East Wing and replacing it with a large new structure. The lawsuit was brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argues the project violates federal laws governing construction on parkland in Washington, D.C. The group contends that Congress must expressly authorize such construction and that required environmental reviews were bypassed or improperly handled. Judge Leon sharply rejected comparisons between the ballroom and past minor renovations, signaling concern about the scale of the project. He is considering whether to issue a preliminary injunction that would halt construction while the case proceeds. The administration maintains the ballroom is necessary for state functions and part of a long tradition of presidential renovations. Government lawyers also argue that stopping construction now would serve no public benefit, especially since above-ground work is months away. Leon said he expects to rule on the injunction request in the coming weeks.White House faces skeptical judge in lawsuit over Trump ballroom | ReutersThis week's closing theme is by Édouard Lalo. This week's closing theme features music by Lalo, a composer who spent much of his career just outside the spotlight of 19th-century French music. Born in 1823, Lalo came to composition relatively late and struggled for recognition in a musical world dominated by opera and established conservatory figures. He is best remembered today for works that combine classical structure with vivid color and rhythmic vitality. The Concerto in F Major, Op. 20 reflects those strengths, balancing elegance with expressive intensity. The opening Andante – Allegro begins with a reflective, almost searching character before unfolding into a more energetic and assertive main section. Lalo uses the solo instrument to sing rather than dominate, emphasizing lyrical phrasing over virtuosic display. The movement's shifting moods showcase his gift for contrast and dramatic pacing. There is a clear sense of forward motion, but never at the expense of clarity. Lalo's orchestration remains transparent, allowing themes to breathe and develop naturally. The music feels poised between Romantic warmth and classical restraint. As a closing theme, it offers both momentum and reflection. It is a reminder of Lalo's understated influence and the enduring appeal of his finely crafted musical voice.Without further ado, Édouard Lalo's Concerto in F Major, Op. 20, the opening Andante, enjoy! In this episode, Lalo and Andy are joined by Brenda and Francisco Cordova of Córdoba Law Group in Mexico to break down what's happening, why it matters now, and how U.S. companies could be caught off guard if they're not paying attention. From new Mexican import tariffs ranging as high as 50%, to exemptions tied to free trade agreements, to the real-world impact on supply chains and pricing models, this conversation brings much-needed clarity to a fast-moving issue that many companies are only now discovering — after the law is already live. If your business touches Mexico in any way, this is a must-listen. Key Topics Covered Mexico's new tariff law effective January 1 — no prórroga, no delay Why this change surprised even seasoned trade professionals Tariff ranges reportedly spanning 15% to 50% across hundreds of tariff lines How free trade agreements factor into exemptions — and where they don't What this means for companies relying on USMCA Why Mexico trade policy is now one of the hottest conference topics in the industry Practical considerations for importers, exporters, and compliance teams Why This Episode Matters Many companies assume Mexico policy changes follow long consultation periods or last-minute extensions. This time, that assumption was wrong. Brenda and Francisco explain what changed, why it changed, and what companies should be doing right now — before costs, compliance issues, or operational disruptions escalate. Episode: Simply Trade #413 Hosts: Andy Shiles & Lalo Solorzano Guest(s): Alex Martin, Transfer Pricing Specialist, KBKG Published: December 18, 2025 Length: ~37 minutes Presented by: Global Training Center Episode Summary Tariffs have changed everything — and many companies are still missing the second-order effects. In this episode, Andy and Lalo sit down with Alex Martin of KBKG to unpack one of the most misunderstood (and increasingly risky) intersections in global trade: transfer pricing and customs valuation. As tariffs rise from single digits to 25%, 50%, and beyond, decisions once made solely by tax or finance teams now carry massive customs consequences. Alex explains how multinational companies are getting “whipsawed” between Customs and the IRS — one pushing values up for duty, the other pushing values down for income tax. This conversation makes one thing crystal clear: customs, tax, finance, and compliance can no longer operate in silos. Whether you're an importer, trade compliance professional, CFO, or tax leader, this episode highlights why cross-functional coordination is now essential — not optional. Key Takeaways Transfer pricing impacts both customs duties and income tax — often in conflicting ways Rising tariffs have turned valuation into a material financial risk, not an academic exercise Customs looks at transactions line-by-line, while tax authorities focus on annual results CFOs and tax directors must now actively engage with trade compliance teams Poor coordination can increase audit risk, cash-flow pressure, and margin erosion Programs like FTZs, bonded warehouses, drawback, and cost bifurcation can help mitigate exposure Asking for transfer pricing documentation is a powerful first step for trade teams Who Needs to Be at the Table? This episode stresses the importance of assembling a multi-disciplinary team, including: Trade Compliance Tax & Transfer Pricing Finance / CFO leadership Accounting (AP / AR) Pricing & Sourcing International affiliates and parent companies If tariffs have changed your margins, they've already changed your tax picture — whether you've addressed it or not.

They delve into Evan's experiences with getting tattooed at conventions, including a memorable stint on Ink Master where he was inked by Megan G. Morris. Evan reveals how he discovered Ink Master through a Craigslist ad and discusses his fascinating time on both Ink Master and Ink Master Redemption. The conversation touches on the importance of communication between clients and tattoo artists, the experience of getting tattooed for multiple days, and the challenges and rewards of participating in tattoo conventions. The episode also highlights the value of the tattooing experience over the final artwork and the importance of mutual respect and understanding in the tattooing process.Support the show

Episode: #408 Hosts: Andy Shiles & Lalo Solorzano Guest(s): Mike Musheinesh, CEO of Detroit Axle Published: Insert date Length: ~39 minutes Presented by: Global Training Center Episode Summary In one of our most powerful and revealing episodes of the year, Andy and Lalo sit down with Mike Musheinesh, CEO of Detroit Axle, to expose the real-world, real-human impact of the accelerated tariff changes implemented under the Trump administration. This conversation is raw, emotional, and brutally honest. It blends economics, politics, business strategy, and human reality into the clearest picture yet of what happens when tariff changes hit industries faster than companies can possibly adapt. Detroit Axle — a family-built, half-billion-dollar U.S. company employing hundreds across Detroit, El Paso, and Juarez — is now facing seismic pressures from massive tariff spikes, sudden de minimis repeal, skyrocketing materials costs, slowed consumer spending, and policy decisions made with little warning. Mike breaks down: How tariffs jumped from $25,000 per $1M of imports… to $625,000–$725,000 Why overnight policy changes destroyed logistics models built over 30 years Why these decisions threaten not just executives, but hundreds of families How Detroit Axle trains returning citizens, rebuilds parts manually, and sustains U.S. jobs Why even supportive CEOs struggle when change comes so suddenly How the company is pivoting toward Canada and Mexico Why Congress vs. Presidential authority may redefine U.S. trade policy And why the Supreme Court's ruling could make or break this company's future This episode is the perfect capstone to a year full of tariff discussions — tying everything together through a real, relatable, human story. Key Learnings & Takeaways 1. Tariff volatility isn't just policy — it's people Detroit Axle employs hundreds across three countries. A sudden repeal of de minimis and massive tariff spikes have already paused a 350,000 sq ft Detroit expansion — affecting jobs, families, and local economies. 2. The cost increases are staggering Tariffs on a million dollars of imports climbed: From $25,000 To $625,000–$725,000 Companies cannot absorb increases of this scale without raising prices or reducing investment. 3. Abrupt policy changes destroy planning cycles Congress initially set a 2027 timeline. The administration moved that to 2025, leaving companies with no runway to pivot. 4. De minimis repeal hurts much more than China Small businesses, U.S. e-commerce, border operations in El Paso/Juarez, and consumers all pay the price. 5. Tariffs were intended to bring leverage — but reciprocity hasn't followed Countries such as India and Vietnam lowered tariffs on U.S. goods… …but the U.S. didn't lower tariffs in return, creating tension and reducing competitiveness. 6. America's manufacturing gap is now painfully visible Mike explains the loss of: Machinery Skills Manual trades Technical knowledge Replacing that ecosystem takes years, not weeks. 7. The Supreme Court case could reshape trade authority The outcome may determine: Whether presidential tariff power remains broad Whether Congress must reassert authority And whether companies like Detroit Axle get relief Episode Resources Detroit Axle – Learn more about Mike's company: Detroit Axle Website Mike Musheinesh (LinkedIn) Connect with Mike Learn more about Global Training Center programs: Trade Compliance Courses Trade Strategist Training Join the Trade Geeks Community: Trade Geeks Portal Subscribe & Follow Stay connected with Simply Trade and never miss an episode: LinkedIn – Global Training Center Follow GTC YouTube – Simply Trade Podcast Subscribe on YouTube Spotify Listen on Spotify Apple Podcasts Listen on Apple Podcasts

This episode tackles one of the hottest topics in global trade: the future of tariffs, IEEPA, and how the Supreme Court's upcoming decision could reshape U.S. trade policy. Eric shares his early analysis of the recent Supreme Court oral arguments on the use of IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) to impose broad, country-wide tariffs—an approach now under scrutiny. Together, they explore whether the U.S. is shifting away from country-of-origin-based tariffs toward sector-based or product-based tariff frameworks, and what that means for importers, exporters, and manufacturers. They also take a historical walk through Section 232 and 301, discuss China's role in the global supply chain, unpack forced labor concerns, and examine how trade policy is being used not just as an economic tool—but a geopolitical one. If your business relies on global sourcing, supply chain planning, cost modeling, or tariff strategy, this is a must-listen episode that cuts through political noise and focuses on operational reality.
