Curtis Stone is a farmer, author, speaker and consultant. His area of expertise is in quick growing, high value annual vegetables for direct consumer market streams. His book, The Urban Farmer demonstrates organic intensive techniques with a focus on business and systems to streamline labour and production. He offers a new way to think about farming. One where quality of life and profitability coexist. Curtis’ farm, Green City Acres is located in Kelowna, BC, Canada and was established in 2010. In an eight month growing season, the farm generates over $75,000 per year on only one third of an acre. This is done by specializing in a select group of high value, quick growing crops that allow for multiple plantings in the same beds as well as calculated intercropping strategies. The farm has been recognized internationally, as flag ship example of how profitable and productive urban agriculture can be. Connect with Curtis. Andy Zaremba is the founder of FloatHouse in Vancouver, British Columbia. He straddles the line between entrepreneur, podcaster, and insight seeker. There is one common thread that weaves its way through all of his work, and that is human development. In this episode Andy and I talk about the premature birth of his daughter and how that served as a catalyst for him to journey down a path of self-exploration. We also discuss his growing business, and we go deep into the world of flotation tanks and the many benefits of sensory reduction. If you're not familiar with the concept of floating and sensory reduction, hold on for a super interesting conversation. I've been fascinated by the science behind floating for a couple of years, and this conversation really brings together the history, the research and the many benefits that we all can realize from floating. As you'll learn, the process of simply enveloping ourselves in a controlled environment allows us to minimize sensory information from all channels, to experience simply being. While there's definitely meditative components at play here, the outcomes, as Andy describes, are quite remarkable from a physiological as well as a psychological perspective. www.thebravestlife.com/045 www.imgreaterthan.com www.floathouse.ca

Woah, monster of an episode with Andy Zaremba from Floathouse and Vancouver Real Podcast. Andy’s been a good friend of mine for a couple years now and he’s been an inspiration since I first met him. He’s one of those guys I like to call a go-giver (like a go-getter, but focussed on giving rather than getting).   He’s the co-owner of multiple businesses with his brother Mike (who I interviewed back in episode 06), as well as a father to a beautiful little girl, partner to a beautiful woman, and the co-leader of our squad in the Samurai Brotherhood. While he definitely has more on his plate than most out there, he also never hesitates to give back, and be of service to people in his community.   In this interview we dig into all sorts of awesome stuff! Some of which include: how he got inspired to create Float House, how cannabis has tied into his life and spiritual development, politics, creating change in one’s life, some family history, fear, personal development, public speaking and anxiety.   Lots of gold in this one. Andy and I really got into a great flow and covered lots of awesome stuff. I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration in here somewhere :)   Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy! 2:30 ~ Andy’s commitment to his mission of elevating consciousness. 7:00 ~ How Andy and Mike got inspired to start Float House. 24:00 ~ What does Andy believe? 27:30 ~ Andy dives into how cannabis has tied into spirituality for him. 33:00 ~ We rant on politics and some of the shit going on in the world 48:00 ~ What it takes for people to shift 51:00 ~ Some of the people lobbying against cannabis and why 54:00 ~ How fear ties into the cannabis discussion 57:00 ~ Psychedelics and how they’ve helped both Andy and me 1:02:00 ~ Some of Andy’s family history 1:07:00 ~ Challenge, getting uncomfortable and growth 1:10:00 ~ Personal development 1:13:00 ~ How anxiety has affected Andy in his life 1:26:00 ~ Rapid fire Qs   References Joe Rogan podcast with Steven Cotler on Flow States: https://youtu.be/KNobzrnSRMc Float On in Portland: http://floathq.com/   Float Conference: http://floatconference.com/ Andy and Mike’s interview with Daniele Bolelli: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/092-daniele-bolelli-history/id923776316?i=1000379354318&mt=2 Who killed the electric care documentary: https://youtu.be/vRnUY6V2Knk The Culture High (cannabis documentary): https://youtu.be/XA9Q6nDVR3s (this is a crazy awesome movie if you haven’t seen it. Daniele Bolelli is a writer, martial artist, university professor, and podcaster. He was born in Italy and currently lives in Los Angeles. He's made multiple appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience. Visit www.DanieleBolelli.com for more! After graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in Anthropology, and earning graduate degrees at UCLA (in American Indian Studies) and CSULB (History), Bolelli began teaching at several colleges in Southern California. Unlike most scholars who tend to specialize in one particular field of knowledge, Bolelli adopts a “renaissance” man-approach to teaching that has led him to lecture on a wide range of subjects including American Indian history and philosophy, history of the United States, world religions, history of ancient Rome, history and philosophy of martial arts, the ethnic experience in the United States, world history, plus several courses on the relationship between cinema and history. Perhaps even more peculiar than his unusually extensive repertoire is Bolelli’s lecturing style. Much like his writing, in fact, his lecturing style combines discussions of complex, deep subjects with much humor and “street lingo.” For this reason, he has been defined as “half stand up comedian and half Zen master.” This odd mix has made him extremely popular among students. Martial Arts: Bolelli has trained in several styles of martial arts including kung fu san soo, taijiquan, baguazhang, xingyiquan, submission wrestling, Brazilian jiujitsu, boxing, and judo. He holds a fifth degree black belt in kung fu san soo–a style that he has taught for several years at UCLA’s John Wooden Center. Bolelli also coached and fought professionally in mixed martial arts (MMA). Media and Podcasting: Bolelli was featured in I Am Bruce Lee which broke Spike TV’s rating record for documentaries. He has appeared as a guest on popular podcasts such as Duncan Trussell’s, Adam Carolla’s and Joe Rogan’s. In October 2012, Bolelli began his own podcast named The Drunken Taoist Podcast. A little over a month after its debut, The Drunken Taoist Podcast was ranked number 1 in the world in the Philosophy section of iTunes. In 2015, Bolelli joined his friend, pro-skateboarder and musician, Mike Vallely as co-host of Vallely’s podcast, The Mike V Show. In 2015, Bolelli also released the first episodes of a new historical podcast called “History on Fire.”

He was a speaker for the Man Talks conference and is back with more wisdom to share with today's audience. One of Andy's defining moments was the premature birth of his daughter, who was an unexpected surprise. He really opens up with our co-hosts today about the pregnancy and some of the challenges he faced during the birth of his daughter. He also talks why he and his brother decided to open Float House, what it is, and why people should do it.   Key Takeaways: [1:10] How did Connor get to know Andy Zaremba? [2:45] What does Andy do? [3:25] What is sensory deprivation or 'floating'? [6:00] When Connor left the float room, he felt like everything was sharper and clearer. [7:10] Floating is completely different from meditation. [10:10] Why did Andy and his brother start float house? [13:55] When you face challenges, that's when you're going to grow the most as a human being. [16:00] What was a defining moment for Andy? [25:25] Man Talks challenges men to really think differently about how they show up in the world. [26:45] Not a lot of men are willing to share their experience with an unplanned pregnancy. [35:20] Instead of fighting your emotions, let them be, let yourself feel them. [37:20] What's Andy's meditation routine? [40:00] There are some really 'crazy' gurus out there promoting spirituality in a negative way.  [41:10] Andy talks psychedelics. [48:50] Why are role models important for men? [54:25] Your inner demons may never go away fully, but you can work on dealing with them better.
