Why do Disney's Snow White rides have so many dungeon scenes? In this episode of Distory, we continue our Snow White series by braving the original Disneyland Snow White ride called Snow White and Her Adventures (or Snow White's Adventures, it didn't seem to matter much back then, so pick your favorite). After seeing some concept art that doesn't stray too far from the feature film, we hear from Arrow Development about the unique development of this opening day ride, find some mural seams, and geek out over a camouflaged operator station. Heading into the ride, we are creeped out by a tiny Dopey, find a connection back to the Haunted Mansion, and meet a skeleton named Oswald. We find some more scary trees, talk about witch variations, and end the episode with Kirk insisting that he will always call the witch a hag (despite Kate's numerous evidence that the name is incorrect). http://www.attractionchecklist.com - I think we can, I think we can take a ride on Disneyland's Casey Jr. Circus Train.  Ride audio recorded on May 18, 2021.  Review recorded February 7, 2019 TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Fantasyland in Disneyland to ride Casey Jr. Circus Train.  The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Enjoy a whimsical tour through miniature versions of fairytale locales from classic Disney movies. There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a slow ride. Before we ride along in the monkey cage, here are five fast facts about Casey Jr Circus Train. 1. Casey Jr Circus Train was a Disneyland opening day attraction opening with the park on July 17, 1955.  However, the ride was closed the next day and remained closed through July 31st, 1955 for safety inspections. 2. Casey Jr. Circus Train takes guests on a tour of Storybook Land at a much quicker pace than the Storybook Land Canal Boats we covered back in episode 33.  Along the way you see several famous sites from Disney films such as Frozen, Peter Pan, Snow White and more. 3. Casey Jr is a two foot (610 mm) narrow gauge internal combustion powered railroad designed by Arrow Development. 4. The sleigh style train cars were part of the King Arthur Carrousel before that attraction was modified to be all horses. 5. Actor Ray Templin provides the voice of the Ringmaster on the attraction. Let's head off to ride the Casy Jr. Circus Train.  Suzie is joining me today and after we ride will give ou our thoughts on this Disneyland Classic.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride Disneyland's Casey Jr. Circus Train. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - To celebrate 100 episodes, Suzie and I take a ride on King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland! Recorded on February 7, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Before we start I just wanted to announce that this is the 100th episode of Attraction Checklist!  The show started in June of 2016 and is showing no signs of stopping.  I wanted to take a moment to thank a few people who’ve been instrumental in making the show what it is today.  Big thanks to Justin Hilden who designed the show's incredible logo, Stephen Staver who edits our episodes and makes them sound good, Paul Barrie and the Window to the Magic podcast who inspired the show. And to our regular riders Suzie, Dave Marquez, Tim Hinton and, of course John B. deHaas for knowing to be quiet while recording!  And finally, a big thanks to you, the show’s amazing listeners, for joining us for the ride!  Here’s to 100 more! I know we were just at Disneyland and I know we were just in Fantasyland but this is the 100th episode so I thought a Disneyland, opening day attraction would be in order so we’re going to take a spin on King Arthur Carrousel in Fantasyland at Disneyland. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction by saying: Spin around and go up and down to joyous music atop a regal steed at this popular attraction inspired by the Knights of the Round Table. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and Thrill Level describes it as a Slow, Spinning Ride that is Loud. Before we hop on a horse, here are five fast facts about King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland. 1. King Arthur Carrousel is a Disneyland Opening Day attraction, opening with the park on July 17, 1955 2. King Arthur Carrousel is actually older than Disneyland!  It was built in 1922 and operated at Sunnyside Beach in Toronto, Canada until that park closed.  It was moved to Disneyland in 1954 when the park was under construction. 3. When the Carrousel was moved to Disneyland, it only had three rings of horses and Disney and Arrow Development added another ring of horses to increase guest capacity. 4. The ride features 3,328 shimmering lights to make the ride even more magical at nighttime! 5. Each horse on the Carousel has a name and a complete list of those names is available at City Hall on Main Street.  The lead horse is named Jingles. Let’s go ride King Arthur Carousel.  Along for the ride is Suzie and during our review we discuss the difference between Carrousel with two R’s as it’s spelled for this attraction and Carousel with one R as it’s spelled elsewhere.  The answer is, there’s no difference they are both correct.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as celebrate 100 episodes by riding King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland. Over the years, much has been said of Walt and his drive to get Disneyland ready for opening day, but we don't hear enough of the men behind that drive.   Perhaps the most important company to Disneyland's success was ... Arrow Development Today's show is one of our favorites to date!  We interview Dexter Francis, author of "Building Disney's Dream", and it's full of not only Disney history, but amusement park history as well. Dexter gets into the details of a company called Arrow Development, who was responsible for the designing and building of five original Disneyland rides.  Over the 20 years or so after the park opened, Arrow Development had a hand in something like 15 different Disney rides, much of their work warranted patents, and literally re-defined the roller coaster, and Disneyland, as we know it. Dexter is full of great information on not only Arrow as a business but how Walt Disney and Arrow worked together to get the park open on time.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.  For more cool stories about Arrow Development, and to grab Dexter's eBook, please head over to his great blog on Arrow Development and all they have done for theme parks around the world! We also do some feedback, including our first ever voice mail feedback!  This show is a long one, so sit back as Dexter takes us back to a time before Disneyland ...   The men of Arrow Development. From Mr. Toad's Wild Ride to the Tea Cups, from Pirates to Haunted Mansion, this group of guys redefined the amusement park thrill ride.
