Isn't one of the perks of being an AFL footballer that it saves you from digging ditches for a living? $2 million a year and he still has to get on the end of spoony type shovel at that club! Time to Restump Podcast Saturday's stroll towards September. Yes, we know, you're screaming “footy Gods” “you'll jinx us” and “don't tempt fate.” Too late! We've gone all in, chips in the middle of the table. I mean in 1789 Benjamin Franklin wrote “Nothing is certain except death, taxes and Fremantle beating West Coast on the 26th July 2025.” The guy was obviously a prophet.Sure, we all remember and we're all still dealing with the scars of round 6 last year when West Coast found a way to beat us. But we're not that team anymore and we haven't been that team since round eight this year against the Saints. Like West Coast Eagles at a community holiday program for kids, we were absent that day. We're a mentally tough outfit now, we've eradicated the periods of lethargy and inattentiveness, we now turn up at the first bounce week in week out and we're playing with an authority and confidence. There are no omens here, there's no voodoo, no juju that'll stop us winning Saturday. I mean the Coasters went all in to try and give their fans something against Richmond last week, a club that is further back in it's rebuild, and they got embarrassed. Look at their list they're rolling out! They should be called the West Coast Owls, because every time you hear one of their players mentioned, you say, who?The only possible disappointing outcome on Saturday will be if we don't retrieve enough percentage from the opportunity. Maybe potential injuries as well… but hey we're not tempting the footy injury gods! I wouldn't be surprised if we're going all in with the Restump Investment Fund on the $1.03 about Freo winning. Its virtually free money! For some balance and grounding and some across the aisle compassion though, there could be an extending of the olive branch in an episode of the Neighbourhood Watch. If you're onboard the purple bulldozing bandwagon and you need something to listen to, press play on the pod and you'll probably get more of this type of nonsense! The only threat of complacency exists in the unnerving minds of the fickle and hesitant. Get out of here you doubting Thomases! Send us a textSupport the show

We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2016 conversation with Mike Stoller. ABOUT MIKE STOLLERMike Stoller has written more than 60 songs that have appeared on the Billboard charts, including the #1 hits “Hound Dog,” “Kansas City,” “Yakety Yak,” “Searchin',” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Poison Ivy,” “Stand By Me,” “Young Blood,” “Don't,” and “Ruby, Baby." After Stoller and songwriting partner Jerry Leiber found early R&B success with recordings by Little Esther, Charles Brown, Ray Charles, and Big Mama Thornton, Elvis Presley turned their song "Hound Dog" into a #1 single on the pop, R&B, and country charts in 1956. Elvis went on to record more than 20 Leiber and Stoller titles, including the hits "Love Me," "Loving You," "Jailhouse Rock," "Treat Me Nice," "She's Not You," and "Bossa Nova Baby." Mike and Jerry signed an independent production deal with Atlantic Records in the mid-1950s, where they wrote and produced a series of hits for several artists, including the Drifters' "There Goes My Baby," "Dance With Me," and "On Broadway." Additionally, the pair wrote and produced all the Coasters' singles, including "Young Blood," "Searchin'," "Charlie Brown," "Along Came Jones," and "Poison Ivy." Other highlights from the Leiber and Stoller songbook include "Love Potion No. 9," which was a hit for both the Clovers and the Searchers, and "Is That All There Is," which was a hit for Peggy Lee. Eleven different versions of their song “Stand By Me” appeared on the Billboard charts over the span of 50 years, with the original version by Ben E. King hitting the Top 10 in both 1961 and 1986. Smokey Joe's Cafe, which included 40 Leiber and Stoller songs, opened in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue in Broadway history. Stoller received the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award in 1991, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and is a member of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In episode 278 of The Just Checking In Podcast we checked in with Evan Grant. Evan Grant is a mental health campaigner and the Co-Founder, alongside his wife Carol and son Alastair of the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust. The Trust was set up in memory of his son Cameron, who tragically took his own life in 2014, when he was just 21 years old. Cameron's death devastated Evan's family and they set up the Trust shortly after Cameron's death to try and change the conversation around mental health. Wee came across Evan's story through James' Place UK as he was interviewed by The Times as part of the newspaper's Christmas Appeal, in which Evan called for another centre to be set up in Birmingham, alongside the centres already established in London, Liverpool and Newcastle. In this episode, we discuss Evan's 35-year career at IBM, fatherhood, Cameron's life, his love of ultimate frisbee, his suicide and the grief that was inflicted upon him and his family then, and how he reflects on it 10 years on. We then discuss the work that the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust has done over those 10 years, shipping over 1.4m of Cameron's Coasters and more than 230,000 postcards and business cards around the UK, Evan's public speaking work in schools, universities and workplaces and letting everyone know that “There is always someone you can talk to.” As always, #itsokaytovent You can find out more about the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust here: https://www.camgrant.org.uk/ You can follow the Trust on social media below: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cammemorial/ You can read The Sunday Times article we discussed in full here: https://www.thetimes.com/uk/society/article/avoid-the-hurt-of-the-lost-years-and-lost-chances-suicide-christmas-appeal-bxv70m3v6. ** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in WYGYFF Episode 11: Musician and host of the long-running "A Funk Above the Rest" radio show, Denver's Skip Reeves, a.k.a. "The Funktologist." Starting out as a drummer in the 1970s, he worked with artists like The Marvelettes, Mitch Ryder, The Platters, The Coasters, Buddy Miles, Alphonse Mouzon and The Drifters. In addition to providing a platform for popular and lesser-known funk & soul music, "A Funk Above the Rest" has featured interviews with Otis Williams of The Temptations, Teena Marie, Rare Earth's Peter Rivera, The Four Tops' Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Jeffrey Osborne, Emilio Castillo of Tower of Power, Jimmy Castor, Klymaxx's Cheryl Cooley, comedian Sinbad, ex-Michael Jackson guitarist Jennifer Batten and Mothers Finest. Reeves' distinguished career includes several other media projects, many of which continue today. RECORDED OCTOBER 2024 Hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist, author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” and creator/host of the popular TRUTH IN RHYTHM podcast — "Where'd You Get Your Funk From?" is the latest interview show brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright. Hey Friends! On this episode of the Airtime Misfits Podcast we're discussing Big Bad Wolf, formerly located at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA. Since opening in 1984, this coaster was loved by many park goers and enthusiasts alike. So when it's closure was annouced in 2009, it left many Big Bad Wolf fans pretty upset. Fear not because soon you'll be able to relive some of the magic of Big Bad Wolf, sort of. In 2025, Busch Gardens Williamsburg will debut Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf's Revenge as a homage to the orginal. Although the name is lacking in creativity and the ride itself doesnt look near as exciting as the original, We're happy to see the park pay an homage to a previous iconic coaster. Thanks so much for listening!Follow us on Instagram: @airtimemisfits

Send us a textJoin me, as we explore the life and music of one of Texas's all but forgotten legends. Known primarily for his innovative sax solos on R & B and early rock and roll songs like "Yakety Yak" and "Charlie Brown" by the Coasters, he was actually a master of many styles and genres. He played Soul music with Aretha, including his solo on Respect, recorded with some of jazz music's greats, and could really let loose on some down and dirty blues. Listen to his musical journey as we sample some of his greatest moments and hear the back story to these classic soulful songs.
