Only fitting that the first episode of the summer features the King of Summah, Howard Kremer! I toured with Howard across the country on the Road to Oddball tour and somewhere along the way we broke out the podcasting gadgetry in a hotel room to talk Austin Stories, Dragon Boy Suede and why we are both about ready to stay in one place for awhile. Have a summah!
Comedian and TV writer Laura House has starred in MTV's iconic Austin Stories, written on Blue Collar TV, The George Lopez Show, Samantha Who? and Mom and been called one of the funniest female comedians out there by none other than Louis CK. And she's been sober for over six years while also becoming a certified meditation teacher and raw food expert. Yep, her repertoire is vast: this is a girl who knows how to bring the funny to meditation. Other Laura House accomplishments include wowing the crowds at storytelling shows (including Anna David's True Tales of Lust and Love, which she performed in more than any other writer or comedian), publishing essays in several anthologies (including the aforementioned True Tales of Lust and Love book) and being featured on Comedy Central. Here, she and David discuss sending a video of a drunken, slurry set to a big manager, various ways the alcoholic brain doesn't seem to work right and how to work through disappointment in sobriety, among many other topics.
Comedian Matt Bearden is our guest this episode. We got into politics, comedy, his show Punch! at Cap City Comedy Club, having kids, the Dudley and Bob show, Austin Stories, the Moontower Comedy Festival, and crap load more stuff!
Howard Kremer (@howardkremer, Who Charted?, Austin Stories) and April Richardson watch the episode of Saved by the Bell where Kelly brings her baby brother Billy (literally an actual baby) to high school to pawn him off on her friends, who toss this human baby around like a hot potato.
Taylor’s back! Oh em gee! He talks about all the super exciting things he’s been up to, then interviews a very funny man/human named Chip Pope! (@chippope). He was on Last Comic Standing, he wrote for Beavis & Butthead, and he did lots of other cool things which they discuss! Some of the serious topics they cover are Chip working on the set of the motion picture classic Blank Check with Tone Loc, creating and starring in MTV’s cult classic show Austin Stories, and Dan Aykroyd.
