Today's poem is What Is This Air Changing, This Warm Aura, These Threads of Air Vibrating Rows of People by Ariel Yelen. The Slowdown is taking a week to return to some of our favorite episodes from Maggie's tenure so far. We'll be back on Monday, March 30 with new episodes. Today's episode was originally released on October 24, 2025. In this episode, Maggie writes… “Going to the elementary school choir concerts and winter music festivals, I got teary every time the kids sang. I told myself it was because of their sweet, little-kid voices, but that's not the whole story. Something about hearing voices in unison—it's powerful, and communal, and comforting, and deeply moving.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. The world has gotten very good … at interrupting us. It lives in our pockets. Buzzing. Vibrating. Let's see how we can manage it.
HELLO & welcome back to another episode of MOMENT OF SILENCEThis week's episode is about one thing: Rage-corn.We talk about all the everyday situations that instantly make our blood boil — men having fun after sunset, people working painfully slow when you're already running late, babies crying on airplanes, and people cutting lines at post offices and metro stations. We also get into peak airport entertainment: family chaos at the luggage drop counter and why punctuality (or the lack of it) is Sakshi's biggest trigger.Quickly getting into salons with no mirrors, unreasonable extra charges, awkward tipping culture (NRIs, we need to talk), to vibrating massagers nobody asked for. We also break down why ordering food or eating out with parents versus partners is a completely different experience, each with its own emotional cost. The episode moves into smaller, quieter irritations too — joke debates around “can” vs “cancelled,” the joy of raw-dogging sleep (no phone, no noise), and whether the Cinderella gland is real or just another internet lie. We read out audience responses on the pettiest revenge they've ever taken, Naina reveals her high-school bully was a guy, and we discuss how women still end up centring men even after ages. We end with chaos, obviously — the biggest prank the MOS team has ever pulled on Sakshi, quick call-ins, and the idea of a workout theme on the 2nd MOS Anniversary. Tell us in the comments: what's the tiniest thing that instantly ruins your mood? In this episode of Tiny Show and Tell Us, we read an email from a listener who, as a kid, shared a fun fact with her classroom: polar bears have black skin. Her teacher not only told her she was wrong but embarrassed her in front of the other students. Well, it's time to set the record straight. Polar bears do, in fact, have black skin and we do, in fact, love a grudge and are so glad to provide vindication. From spiral staircases that defy physics to chapels carved straight into living rock, these are the places where architecture crosses into the paranormal—and where legends refuse to stay silent. The Loretto Chapel Staircase – A Carpenter From Heaven? We begin in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with one of the world's most iconic architectural mysteries: the Loretto Chapel's gravity-defying spiral staircase. The Sisters of Loretto prayed for help—and a mysterious carpenter arrived with nothing but a toolbox and a donkey. Working alone, he created a double-helix staircase with no central support, built from a type of wood not found anywhere in the region. He vanished without payment, without a name, and without any record of ever being there. Visitors still report: Apparitions of a carpenter Strange lights Feelings of presence or protection Sudden chills or tingling energy around the staircase Genius craftsmanship? A saint in disguise? Or something far beyond human skill? Rosslyn Chapel – Codes, Secrets & Hidden Builders Next, we travel to Scotland's legendary Rosslyn Chapel, a structure overflowing with symbolism, whispers of the Knights Templar, and carvings that seem centuries ahead of their time. Inside its ornate stone walls are: Impossible geometric designs Carvings said to depict corn before the discovery of the New World Hidden chambers and blocked doorways Acoustical "hot spots" believed to amplify prayer or meditation Whether constructed by enlightened stonemasons, secret societies, or something more supernatural, Rosslyn remains one of Europe's most paranormally charged sites—where energy shifts, cold pockets, and spiritual encounters are frequently reported. The Church That Appeared Overnight We explore one of Europe's strangest architectural legends: a remote chapel said to have been built in a single night. Villagers claimed they awoke to find a perfectly constructed, smooth-stone church where there had been nothing the day before. No workers were seen. No sounds of construction were heard. Some believe the builders were: Angels Protective spirits Shadowy stonecutters from folklore known to appear only at night The geometry is flawless, the stones are impossibly uniform, and no one—not even local elders—could recall a time it was "built." Miracle? Mass memory loss? Or the work of something otherworldly? The Rock-Hewn Churches of Ethiopia – Architecture Beyond Human Hands? Finally, we journey to Lalibela, Ethiopia, home to eleven monolithic churches carved directly out of solid volcanic rock. Each one is a single piece—roof, pillars, walls, and windows all connected as part of the same giant stone. Local tradition says King Lalibela built them with: The guidance of angels Workers who labored by day And heavenly beings who continued the construction through the night Modern archaeologists still struggle to explain how these immense structures—some descending 40 feet into the ground—were made with the tools of the 12th century. Visitors commonly report sensations of: Peaceful energy Vibrating stone Light phenomena Sacred presence around the churches These sites remain living testaments to a blend of faith, engineering mystery, and possible supernatural intervention. Vidcast: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOwf2u9FNvx/When a woman's eggs are harvested from her ovaries in preparation for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), they are covered by so-called cumulus cells. These cells must be removed after IVF and before ICSI in order to obtain viable fertilized eggs for implantation. The traditional method for cumulus removal, CR, involves vortexing using manual pipetting. This process often damages some of the eggs, the oocytes.Enter biologists at Cornell University with a microfluidic chip through which eggs can pass and be cleansed of cumulus cells with vibration-induced flow. The chip has a spiral array of micro-pillars that separate the smaller cumulus cells from the larger oocytes and flush them out of the chip.Pre-clinical studies using a mouse model showed the process to be fast, efficient, and gentle for the eggs. As many as 23 oocytes were simultaneously cleaned successfully with the potential for fertilization and embryo initiation similar to those for manual pipette cleaning. Hopefully, after this method undergoes additional testing, it will be ready for the clinic……someday soon.https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlepdf/2025/lc/d5lc00414d#oocytes #cumulus #ivf #icsi #microchip #cleansing

What if the secret to making continuous bioprocessing practical, sustainable, and far simpler has been shaking - literally - just beneath our feet? For years, the industry has grappled with the complexities of continuous manufacturing, with technologies like ATF (alternating tangential flow) steadily dominating the perfusion landscape. But what if there's a game-changer right around the corner - a technology that vibrates membranes, not workflows, promising both higher performance and a greener footprint?Enter Jarno Robin, a pioneering force in membrane filtration and Pharma Business Development Director at Sani Membranes. With two decades of experience implementing ATF and championing continuous innovation in bioprocessing, Jarno isn't just speculating about change—he's building it. In this episode, host David Brühlmann gets hands-on with Jarno as they unpack Sani's patented Vibro Membrane Filtration (VMF) technology and its bold promise to transform upstream and downstream bioprocessing. Here are three reasons you can't afford to miss this conversation:Vibration Over Crossflow: Sani's VMF system shakes up conventional wisdom by using vibration to generate turbulence, achieving uniform transmembrane pressure, reducing cell damage, and enabling robust, scalable separations across applications from mAbs to cultivated meat and even challenging mRNA workflows.Seamless Tech Swap (and Sustainability): Transitioning from ATF or TFF to VMF? Jarno explains how the setup is surprisingly straightforward, requires fewer connections at scale, dramatically cuts chemical use, and can slash your environmental footprint, as membranes last years instead of months.Innovation Demands Resilience: Beyond equipment specs, Jarno pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to drive innovation in pharma: relentless belief, hours of extra work, and the patience to let good data - and internal advocates - build momentum for change.Ready to see bioprocessing through a new lens? Tune in to discover how vibrating membranes may help you simplify your CMC development pipeline, reduce waste, and position your organization for a more continuous, efficient future.Connect with Jarno Robin:LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jarno-robinWebsite: www.sanimembranes.comCurious about continuous processing challenges and breakthroughs? What if one of biotech's biggest production breakthroughs was hiding in plain sight? Not in a new gene or a wonder drug, but in the way we process and purify biologics.Perfusion technology, once dismissed as a pipedream in top biopharma boardrooms, is now quietly powering some of the industry's most efficient and productive manufacturing platforms. Yet, transforming perfusion from controversial buzzword to gold standard required timing, vision, and a willingness to break from tradition. In this episode, host David Brühlmann sits down with Jarno Robin, a bioprocessing pioneer whose 20+ year journey spans industry giants like Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, and Leo Pharma. Jarno has championed upstream continuous processes, including ATF and TFF, for decades, and now, as a leader at Sani Membranes, he's unleashing the next evolution: Vibro® Membrane Filtration, an innovation set to upend conventional wisdom about fouling, pressure loss, scalability, energy usage, and more. Here are three reasons you'll want to listen to Jarno's journey:Innovation Versus Industry Inertia: Behind every platform shift are years of resistance. Jarno recounts how timing, advocacy, and matching the right data with the right decision-makers finally made perfusion mainstream, even after company leaders proclaimed, “We will never ever run perfusion.”State-of-the-Art and the Next Frontier: ATF and TFF remain dominant, but their limitations, like membrane fouling, scale-up headaches, and high energy needs, are real. Jarno explains how Vibro® Membrane Filtration addresses these pain points with a radically new design, offering lower pressure loss, less fouling, higher cell densities, and surprisingly low energy consumption.Practical Wisdom for Bioprocess Developers: Should you always run a control in process development? How do you translate lab-scale wins to robust, money-earning production? Jarno shares counterintuitive advice based on decades of hands-on success and mistakes.Curious how you can optimize your process technology and sidestep costly pitfalls? Listen to this episode and discover how “timing is everything” in bioprocessing innovation and whether new filtration methods could help you leap ahead.Connect with Jarno Robin:LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jarno-robinWebsite: www.sanimembranes.comCurious about continuous processing challenges and breakthroughs?
