Our conversation then shifts as we engage with Radha Mitchell, discussing her role in the film "Sacrifice," and exploring how her character's journey through mystery and emotional rawness drew her into the project.  Richard Harmon brings us tales from "The 100" Season 4, delving into Murphy's uncertain path and the character dynamics that keep the narrative unpredictable and his own survival surprising yet believable. House on Haunted Hill was a huge failure with critics, but at 50th in the 1999 box office, and having made back its budget, it was a reasonable commercial success. It opened number one during Halloween weekend, likely finding an audience in moviegoers eager for anything spooky (and it is pretty spooky...) A remake of William Castle's 1959 film starring Vincent Price, this House on Haunted Hill was directed by William Malone with a written by Dick Beebe, who also penned Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) with effects by the legendary Greg Nicotero and Robert Kurtzmann. With a delightfully loopy, hammy performance from Geoffrey Rush and pretty great supporting cast who all understood the assignment, House on Haunted Hill is an imperfect but genuinely enjoyable horror thrill ride. It's also a favorite of our guest Stephanie Gagnon, host of the horror book podcast Books in the Freezer, who joined us way back in Round 1 for The 6th Sense and rejoins us to talk mustaches, Chris Kattan, bad endings, and which is the best Scream movie. Here we are at the end of something that, for the last eleven years, has brought a lot of joy, and yes some heartbreak to a lot of fans lives. The Walking Dead has been a tradition for a lot of peoples' Sundays for a long time now, even if some of those Sundays left us with tears in our eyes. The Walking Dead has come to an end, and we're here to talk about the very last episode of the series. ""Rest in Peace" is the series finale of the post-apocalyptic horror television series The Walking Dead. The twenty-fourth episode of the eleventh season and the 177th episode overall, it aired on AMC on November 20, 2022, and was simultaneously released on the streaming platform AMC+. The episode's teleplay was written by Corey Reed and Jim Barnes, from a story by Angela Kang, and directed by Greg Nicotero." Eleven seasons is a lot to catch up on, if somehow you've made it this far and haven't seen any The Walking Dead. BUT, if you're a zombie fan, this is definitely a must watch. It really did reinvigorate the zombie genre in a lot of fans' eyes, and has weaved together so many amazing stories. This last episode is the bow at the end of the series. Whether it closes all of the threads is up for the debate because there are still spinoffs that are coming from this series, but it feels like a pretty good ending to this epic series! Howard Berger and Marshal Julius are with us!  You probably remember Howard from episodes 74 and 284. He's the co-founder of the KNB EFX Group AND he's an academy award and emmy award winning special effects artist.  It's hard to do this guy justice… because he's been involved with over 800 feature films and television shows. He's worked with some of the biggest names in show business. He and his business partner Greg Nicotero are responsible for allllll of the zombies in the Walking Dead. He's done All of Quentin Tarantino's movies.  He's Mark Wahlberg's go-to guy for special effects.  He and his team did the Chronicles of Narnia… for which they won the Academy Award for Best Make Up. He got another academy nomination for his work on HITCHCOCK.  And just about every horror movie that's scared the crap out of you over the past 20 to 30 years… there's a VERY good chance Howard had something to do with it.  And just try to wrap your mind around this… for ONE tv show… The Orville… they have created over 1000 designs…  that's just ONE show!!! Now… let's talk about Marshall Julius.  I'd classify him as a modern day renaissance man!  He's an author… he's an artist.  By the way… his art has been purchased and shared around the world. He kills it on the Twitters and most importantly… he's made an impressive career and business out of being a professional fan and self-proclaimed nerd.  Now THAT's the best… when you can make a career out of something you love! Okay… so we're talking today… because these two long-time friends have teamed up to write one of the most anticipated and fascinating books written for film fans and geeks… called, Masters of Make-Up Effects: A Century of Practical Magic.  It's already a #1 new release and it doesn't come out until next month!!! linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This June is “VHS Cover Art” month at Catching Up On Cinema! Every week we'll be reviewing films with incredible cover art from the VHS era. This week, Kyle and Trevor review Adam Marcus', Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)! Oft regarded as the black sheep of the franchise, Jason Goes to Hell is the 9th installment of the Friday the 13thseries of slasher films. Originally conceived by franchise shepherd Sean S. Cunningham as an opportunity to crossover his Friday the 13th series with A Nightmare on Elm Street in the form of a Freddy vs. Jason project (a decade before that film would actually be produced), Jason Goes to Hell would be the first Friday film to be distributed by “The House that Freddy Built," New Line Cinema. Directed by 23 year old Adam Marcus, and apparently shot from a fragmented and indecipherable script, Jason Goes to Hell is a largely maligned chapter in the franchise that represents perhaps the most dramatic deviation from the standard narrative formulae and established tropes of the series. Despite franchise favorite, Kane Hodder, donning the hockey mask and machete in the film, Jason Goes to Hell is a difficult pill to swallow for Jason fans, with the character being unceremoniously executed within the first 5 minutes of the film, and only returning (in proper) for it's closing moments. While the film is commendable for trying something new, the clumsy pacing, baffling and overly complicated plot/mythology, and deeply unsatisfying body hopping gimmick that denies viewers the opportunity to see their favorite slasher in action, results in a clunky mess that completely fails to make it to the fireworks factory. Produced by Sean S. Cunningham, and possessed of some solid effects from Greg Nicotero and KNB EFX, as well as a (sadly lackluster) score by franchise stalwart Harry Manfredini, Jason Goes to Hell had good people involved that were attempting to do good work, however every story has to have a lowest point, and Jason Goes to Hell may just be that for the Friday the 13th films.
