Author Sarah F. Pearlman talks about “Bar Time: A Lesbian Rite of Passage: Bar Stories by Older Lesbians” with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™. "Bar Time" is a new collection of writings by twenty-six older lesbians telling their not-to-be-erased lesbian history through stories, poetry, a play and a collection of beloved disco songs. “Bar Time” is produced by the Boston OLOC (Old Lesbians Organizing for Change) editorial team including Alice Fisher, Sarah F. Pearlman and Sue Reamer. The stories mostly come from the Boston area but also include contributors from New Hampshire, Connecticut, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Minnesota, California, Washington and Melbourne, Australia. Pearlman stated, “Some of our writers were adolescents when they entered their first lesbian bar. To our generation, lesbian bars were a part of our lives and an opportunity to meet women different than ourselves. Where lesbian-feminists met bar dykes.” For most lesbians of our older LGBTQ generation bars were the only place to go to connect with other women to have their first meeting of other lesbians and connect with a lesbian social world. Before Stonewall since it was illegal to be LGBTQ, bar owners had to pay off the police to keep bars from being raided because selling liquor to gay men and lesbians was also illegal. After Stonewall things slowly changed for our LGBTQ community and by 1987 there were an estimated two hundred lesbian bars nationwide. That number has dwindled to a mere fifteen lesbian bars left in 2021. We talked to Sarah about what she hopes to accomplish with “Bar Time: A Lesbian Rite of Passage” and her spin on our LGBTQ issues.  Sarah F. Pearlman is a teacher, writer and lesbian-feminist activist, nationally recognized for her pioneering role in establishing a psychology of lesbians. She was a founder and the primary coordinator of Boston OLOC (Old Lesbians Organizing for Change), coordinated the Boston-based conference “To Bed or Not to Bed: Sex and the Older Lesbian” and was a member of the OLOC editing team that produced the booklet of the same name along with subsequent booklets of writings by older lesbians including “Erasing Lesbians and Virus Time”. She is the author of “Mother-Talk: Conversations with Mothers of Lesbian Daughters and FTM Transgender Children” (2012), “The Lesbian Erotic: Bad Girl Persona and Other Poems” (2013) and must-read novel about pre-historic lesbians “Where There Are Mountains” (2019). The booklet for “Bar Time: A Lesbian Rite of Passage” will be released in a few week but you can request a PDF. Request “Bar Time” PDF LISTEN: 500+ LGBTQ Chats @OUTTAKE VOICES

Ben Randle is back to help us celebrate and reflect on Pride month! But first the transition to post pandemy life seems to have it's own set of challenges. Apparently there will be no Gay Love Island because we are a ‘logistical difficulty'... really?!?! We set out to solve immigration... or at least debate Vice President Kamala Harris' trip to Guatemala that has both folks on the right and left upset, but are they both missing the facts? Or is the administration not taking the full historical nature of the US's devastation of South & Central America into full account? As we prepare to celebrate the uprising that started it all we dive into 8 uprisings that happened BEFORE Stonewall! From SF, to Philly, to LA, our queerstory is rife with activism, on the backdrop of the Lavender Scare that set the scene of making being Queer illegal.  Guest Co-Host: - Ben Randle (he/him): Theatre director based in New York. It's the second week of Pride month and we are highlighting the Compton's Cafeteria riot of 1966 as part of our #QueerHistory.  Before Stonewall, drag queens and trans people in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco experienced constant police harassment and in August of 1966, fought back in one of the first LGBT-related riots, marking the beginning of trasngender activism. Happy Pride!  Then, Marko and Tony sit down to talk about a phenomenon that is affecting gay culture (and most things): whitewashing.  Pride was started by trans women of color but has morphed into something entirely different these days.  Scantily clad, white, gay, cis-gendered, men occupy the floats and theme of Pride altogether.  How do we feel about all of this? Then, the guys are joined at the Virtual Critable by the hosts of the Homo Homie Podcast, Erick Velasco (@thehomohomie) and José Resendez (@thejoseresendez). The guys sit down to talk about their early years, what dating in LA, and why they started the podcast.Articles:Fumble: We Need to Stop White Washing Pride MonthAdvocate: Can Pride Be a Little Less White This Year?Shit to Put On Your Radar:Head to our new home at DNR Studios, sign up for a subscription, and get exclusive content from Marko and Tony as well as podcast shows only available on the network! If you need a licensed therapist but can't leave your home, go to www.betterhelp.com/critellis and get some help, today. If you're in the LA area, join Erick for his bi-weekly event, SundayCitó at the El Picante restaurant, starting on June 13th!Sh!t | Leave us a voicemail with your relationship sh!tuation at (903) POD- SHIT.  That's (903) 763-7448.  You can also fill out a Listener Sh!tuation on our website, podrelationshit.com, or email us at relationshitquestions@gmail.com. Visit Us | www.podrelationshit.com for more Relationsh!t content and information about the podcast.Donate | Head over to patreon.com/podrelationshit and start donating today!  Your donations will give you early access to the podcast,  behind-the-scenes interviews with our weekly guests, and merchandise.Rate Us | Go to your favorite podcast directory and give Relationsh!t a 5-Star rating, and a fantastic review!Follow Us | Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook: @podrelationshitAnd follow Marko and Tony on Instagram (@thecritellis) if you want a BTS look into their relationship and adventures! We're revisiting this episode of The Long Play from 2016 featuring Darcelle XV. Before Stonewall and the legalization of gay marriage, before RuPaul or Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, there was Darcelle XV's. Founded in 1967, it's the longest-running drag revue in the country, with a never-ending parade of bejeweled dresses, feather boas, Cher tunes, and double entendres. Now 86 years old (at the time of this interview), and still hosting multiple shows a night, we sat down with Darcelle and her right-hand queen, Poison Waters, to talk about what drag means and how the club has evolved, and to swap some great old stories. The Long Play was a Portland Monthly podcast, featuring unedited conversations with Portland innovators, game changers, and generally fascinating people.
