TV time is very important for wrestlers, especially in the big promotions stateside. If you're regularly featured on a wrestling TV show, where all the main storylines and action are happening, that means you're in the mix and making a name for yourself, as opposed to just sitting in the back doing nothing or stuck in dark matches. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Angry216 (VOW Discord) get some TV time themselves by playing theme songs to some of their favorite TV shows. Shows discussed include Twin Peaks, The Wire, BoJack Horseman, In Living Color, Veronica Mars, Scrubs, KaBlam!, Halt and Catch Fire, and many more. Grab the remote and turn on the boob tube for a fun episode!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrewAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

One of the funniest -- and edgiest -- sketch shows of the 1990s was In Living Color which introduced many of us to the Wayans family (and Jim Carrey to boot). And one of the edgiest parts of that edgiest sketch show was Damon Wayans, brother of show creator Keenan Ivory Wayans and a fearless satirist. Whether it was a homeboy with great money making ideas, a supremely flamboyant gay film reviewer, or a misanthropic clown Damon's characters always left you with a "can they say that" moment. A fine standup comic, as well as an actor and writer, Damon also racked up numerous movie credits, an armful of awards, and a best selling book along the way. He's still active so there is no doubt more to come, but we suspect one of his proudest achievements was in true Wayans' fashion making it a family affair when he starred with his son Damon Jr in the sitcom Poppa's house. As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Damon? In Living Color reveled in blasting apart stereotypes -- or reinforcing them -- your pick. Either way, the Homeboys (Damon and brother Keenan) were huge hits. https://youtu.be/FSRQKSqvmvk?si=JPyk2SkwLnlats8W One of Damon's classic characters was Homey D. Clown, a misanthropic kids entertainer who reminds us that "Homey don't play that". https://youtu.be/_QhuBIkPXn0?si=eUqZNbPKbzpmF3z8 Damon has retired from standup but his old sets are worth a listen -- like this one about encountering a miffed Mike Tyson. https://youtu.be/YyQSYZwLFmo?si=j_fqmME-M_w-n-9B

In this episode, the first of our Legendary Disruptors series, we celebrate ‘90s comedy icon Keenen Ivory Wayans and the legacy of In Living Color, the revolutionary sketch series on FOX, how it centered the Black American experience, and its impact on comedy and culture. We dig into how Wayans hired the writers and performers who would become legends, the way he used satire to upend stereotypes, and his refusal to water down the show for white audiences and skittish network executives. Wayans reflects on what it's like working with his family and how they made their way into comedy, as well as how comedy has and hasn't changed in the 21st century. We are then joined by writer and director Felicia Pride to discuss the legacy of In Living Color, the 90s golden era of Black sitcoms, and her own upcoming reboot of A Different World for Netflix.

Happy “Tax Day”! I wonder what the American Revolutionary Founders would think of ‘Tax Day’, on this momentous 250th Anniversary of our American Independence…? Links Videos / Clips [x] = Played The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer – American Archive of Public Broadcasting [x] 48:56--49:39 JIM LEHRER: What is the proper relationship, what should be the proper relationship between a chairman of the Fed and a president of the United States? ALAN GREENSPAN: Well, first of all, the Federal Reserve is an independent agency, and that means, basically, that there is no other agency of government which can overrule actions that we take. So long as that is in place and there is no evidence that the administration or the Congress or anybody else is requesting that we do things other than what we think is the appropriate thing, then what the relationships are don’t, frankly, matter. And I’ve had very good relationships with presidents. 1. [x] Understanding Fractional Reserve Banking: How It Fuels Economic Growth Fractional reserve banking is the banking system most countries use today. It requires banks to hold only a fraction of the money their customers deposit. That amount is the reserve requirement, and in most countries, it is set by the central bank. Banks can loan the rest of their deposits to other customers, which serves to expand the economy. It works like this. Banks accept deposits from individuals and businesses providing them with savings and checking accounts in return. Banks can loan out the bulk of those deposits to other customers to buy homes or cars, start businesses, or to fund other projects. If a customer deposits $100,000 into a bank and the reserve requirement is 5%, the bank can loan $95,000 out to other customers. Once the bank has loaned out $95,000, it in essence has created $195,000. Customers borrow that $95,000 and deposit some or all of it into other banks. If the reserve requirement is still 5%, then the other banks can loan $90,250 to new customers. And the process keeps repeating itself. Financial crisis occurs when the fractional banking system breaks down and the money supply does not expand. Many US banks had to shut down during the Great Depression, because so many people attempted to withdraw their money at the same time. Today, safeguards exist to prevent such an occurrence. 1. [x] Letter from Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval (1816) – Teaching American History We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers. Our landholders, too, like theirs, retaining indeed the title and stewardship of estates called theirs, but held really in trust for the treasury, must wander, like theirs, in foreign countries, and be contented with penury, obscurity, exile, and the glory of the nation. This example reads to us the salutary lesson, that private fortunes are destroyed by public as well as by private extravagance. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, and to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering. Then begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia, which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man. And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression. [x] Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address (Mar 4, 1837) | The American Presidency Project The severe lessons of experience will, I doubt not, be sufficient to prevent Congress from again chartering such a monopoly, even if the Constitution did not present an insuperable objection to it. But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government. The power which the moneyed interest can exercise, when concentrated under a single head and with our present system of currency, was sufficiently demonstrated in the struggle made by the Bank of the United States. [x] Federal Reserve Act – Wikisource, the free online library Sec. 30.. The right to amend, alter, or repeal this Act is hereby expressly reserved. [x] hypothecate – definition and meaning [x] Websters 1828 – Webster’s Dictionary 1828 – Hypothecate HYPOTH’ECATE, verb transitive [Latin hypotheca, a pledge; Gr. to put under, to suppose.] 1. To pledge, and properly to pledge the keel of a ship, that is, the ship itself, as security for the repayment of money borrowed to carry on a voyage. In this case the lender hazards the loss of his money by the loss of the ship, but if the ship returns safe, he received his principal, with the premium or interest agreed on, though it may exceed the legal rate of interest. 2. To pledge, as goods. [x] 321gold: Gold and Economic Freedom by Alan Greenspan 1966 In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold. If everyone decided, for example, to convert all his bank deposits to silver or copper or any other good, and thereafter declined to accept checks as payment for goods, bank deposits would lose their purchasing power and government-created bank credit would be worthless as a claim on goods. The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves. This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists’ tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists’ antagonism toward the gold standard. Accessed 15 Apr. 2026. It has been confirmed that the Tsarnaev family, at least to some degree, have been connected to the Central Intelligence Agency for almost 20 years. In 1995, Ruslan Tsarni (formerly known as Ruslan Tsarnaev, affectionately known as “Uncle Ruslan,” the American corporate media darling who bemoaned the alleged actions of his nephews Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev ) married the daughter of the former Deputy Director of the CIA's National Council on Intelligence, Graham Fuller. While the marriage of Samantha Ankara Fuller and Ruslan Tsarnaev was short-lived, reportedly ending in divorce in 1999, it appears that Ruslan and Graham Fuller were more than just father-in-law and son.  They may also been business partners. These key details in the history of the Tsarnaev family and the CIA were first reported by Daniel Hopsicker of Mad Cow Morning News, and the marriage of Fuller's daughter and Ruslan has indeed been confirmed by Al-Monitor reporter, Laura Rozen. ↩ Hopsicker, Daniel. “Boston Bombers' Uncle Married Daughter of Top CIA Official.” MadCow Morning News, 26 Apr. 2013, www.madcowprod.com/2013/04/26/boston-bombers-uncle-married-daughter-of-top-cia-official/. PBS Newshour co-anchor Geoff Bennett is out with a new book that presents portraits of Black artists who shaped comedy. Black Out Loud is a history that starts with vaudeville and runs through the ‘90s, when sitcoms like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In Living Color and Family Matters carried the responsibility of representing a varied Black experience. In today's episode, Bennett speaks with NPR's Scott Simon about vaudeville and minstrelsy as the DNA of Black comedic performance, the impact of Amos ‘n' Andy, and comedians like Bert Williams, Richard Pryor and Dave Chappelle. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayTo manage podcast ad preferences, review the links below:See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

“What if one 12‑minute TV stunt in 1992 is the reason the Super Bowl looks the way it does today?”That's the question that launches this fast‑moving, unexpectedly epic edition of Things Skin Is Tracking, as Jeff ‘Skin' Wade takes Ben Rogers, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray down a whirlwind rabbit hole of music, sports, pop culture, and pure show‑style absurdity. The crew starts with a post‑Super Bowl deep dive into Bad Bunny's global impact, sparked by Skin stumbling across a surprise 20‑minute Peacock documentary at midnight. This leads to an eye‑opening revelation: Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico residency didn't just help the local economy… it detonated it, generating a $400 million impact on the island. From there, Skin unravels the wild history of In Living Color's 1992 halftime special, which pulled 20 million viewers away from the official broadcast and directly paved the way for future megastars like Bad Bunny. He reveals the moment that forced the NFL to rethink halftime shows forever—ultimately leading to the booking of Michael Jackson the very next year.

This 2-parter is a conversation with Daniel Hyde, a pastor in the United Reformed Church. We invited him to discuss his book on Christian images "In Living Color," but also delved into the Calvinist movement within Protestantism. You see, Common Threads is produced in Grand Rapids, Michigan. And this part of the state is an epicenter of Calvinism (also known as Reformed Theology). I think these episodes are the most in-depth dive we've taken on this show. Sorry it's taken so long to get online. Theme music "Nigal."

BT and Sal get a hilariously fiery interview with comedy legend Marlon Wayans, who unleashes a scorching take on "cancel culture." Wayans argues it's a fear-based illusion fueled by foreign bots and "scared executives," not what real audiences want, and declares his intent to bring back the "equal opportunity offender" laughter of In Living Color with the upcoming 'Scary Movie 6.' Marlon also opens up about the friendly jealousy among the famous Wayans brothers (and why he was their mother's favorite), reveals his "F these people" pre-show ritual for comedic fearlessness, and debates whether an Archie Bunker-style show could ever survive in today's hypersensitive world.

In this high‑energy episode, Marlon Wayans joins Gentry Thomas to give fans the full scoop on his nationwide stand‑up tour — the “Wild Child Tour.” Want to catch him live? Click here for dates and locations: MarlonWayans.com/live‑showsHe shares stories about what inspired the tour, how he crafts his live sets, and what audiences can expect from a night with Marlon. The conversation digs into Marlon’s early days in comedy and film, including his breakthrough roles in Scary Movie, White Chicks, and his beginnings on In Living Color. He also opens up about life’s more serious struggles—watching his older brother deal with crack addiction, learning lessons in brotherhood and responsibility, and how personal pain has shaped his funny, unfiltered voice. Marlon shares one of the wildest stories in his career: when singer Macy Gray angrily jumped on stage at one of his shows over a joke—what went down, how he handled it, and what he learned from it. Family remains at the center of everything. He discusses his relationship with his brothers and how they influenced each other creatively, and what family legacy means in the Wayans clan. This conversation is raw, hilarious, and deeply human—filled with laughter, life lessons, and the kind of behind‑the‑scenes honesty you don’t always get from a comedy star. Don’t miss it.

Greetings, dear Scorekeepers! And congrats to the Rapture Class of 2025! "It's a Different World" couldn't be more apt for today's political climate as well as today's episode. As is now customary, we start off with a little rant about this week's Republican shenanigans, but this time it's tempered with a chat about some of the art-making we've been doing in our spare time to stay sane. And then, for years now, we've been wanting to talk about one of our favorite things, but haven't had the chance. Until now! Hopefully, you love Black 90s sitcoms as much as we do. From A Different World to Martin to Living Single to In Living Color and more, these shows had a profound affect on us as kids and really helped shaped how we saw ourselves and the world around us. Join us as we take a stroll down memory lane and chat about our favorite shows, characters and moments and why they just don't make 'em like they used to (0:27:25). Plus, of course, a super-sized PBJ, because God knows we could all use it (1:15:33). Cooper Barnes is arguably most famous for playing Captain Man in the Henry Danger franchise. But before that, he was playing the role of guest on our show. He was also on In Living Color that year, so it was a great year for him. Chuck Gallagher may not be an actor, but he is a changed man. In the 90s, he made some, let's say, questionable decisions. He now spends his time motivating others to not make questionable decisions. And yet, 13 years later, we're still doing the show. We saw a ton of recognizable, and established, actors stop by Boy Meets World as a guest star through the first 5 seasons of the show - but it’s possible none were as interesting, and inspiring, as this week’s guest. In addition to playing “Jump Master” in the newly G.O.A.T.’d Season 5 episode, “Raging Cory,” this familiar face has worked with Spike Lee, Bong Joon Ho, Wes Anderson and the Coen Bros., where he stole one of the most intensely dramatic (and funny?) scenes in film history. Oh, and did we mention he was a cast member on In Living Color? He’s legendary, internally evolved and a pioneer when it comes to racial equality and standing up for what you believe in. Even when it’s hard to do. This week on Pod Meets World - it’s Stephen Park!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
