Enjoy two free horror episodes of The Sealed Book w/ Phillip Clarke A) 3/18/45 The Hands of Death B) 5/27/45 I'll Die Laughing Heard for one season in 1945 on Mutual, The Sealed Book offered mystery and terror tales, written by Robert A. Arthur and David Kogan, the same writing team that brought us The Mysterious Traveler and The Strange Dr. Weird. Produced and directed by Jock MacGregor (of Nick Carter, Master Detective fame), it aired March 18th until September 9th, 1945 on Sunday nights from 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm. Each week, after the sound of a great gong, the mysterious silent “keeper of the book has opened the ponderous door to the secret vault wherein is kept the great sealed book, in which is recorded all the secrets and mysteries of mankind through the ages. Here are tales of every kind, tales of murder, of madness, of dark deeds strange and terrible beyond all belief.” All 26 scripts for The Sealed Book were derived from scripts originally written for The Mysterious Traveler but each production used a different cast. It's important to note that despite the extraordinary similarities between the scripts, writers and director, The Sealed Book was very much its own production. Produced on the east coast, it featured New York's best supporting players including Mason Adams, Jan Miner, Maurice Tarplin, Lawson Zerbe and Bill Lipton with Phillip Clarke as “the keeper of the Sealed Book.”

Chick Carter, Boy Detective is a 15-minute American old-time radio juvenile crime drama. It was carried on the Mutual Broadcasting System weekday afternoons from July 5, 1943 to July 6, 1945. Premise. Chickering "Chick" Carter was the adopted son of (and assistant to) Nick Carter of Nick Carter, Master Detective fame, making this program a spinoff of the elder Carter's show. Episodes of Chick Carter typically ended with a cliffhanger, enticing young listeners to tune in again for the next installment of the program. Although Chick Carter ostensibly had a young audience, both it and the older Carter program "kept fans of varying ages engrossed in their crime-stopping pursuits." Officials at WOR (AM), Mutual's flagship station in New York City, believed the duo to be "the first related pair of adult and juvenile series in radio." Both programs were products of the Street & Smith publishing company, which 11 years earlier put The Shadow on radio to promote the company's Detective Story Magazine. The trade publication Billboard reported that the broadcasts combined "the public yen for escape with need for protection against further cuts in paper" during World War II. Street & Smith's writers provided scripts for the programs at no charge if the shows were not sponsored. Inner Circle Club. Followers of either or both of the Carter programs could join the Inner Circle club, which provided a membership card and a folder that contained background information on the casts of the two shows. Initially, membership was available only to listeners of WOR. Personnel. Bill Lipton initially had the title role, with Leon Janney taking his place beginning July 3, 1944. Sisters Jean and Joanne McCoy played Sue, and Gilbert Mack played Tex. In supporting roles, (Neither Sue nor Tex had a last name on the program.) Bill Griffis played Rufus Lash, and Stefan Schnabel played the Rattler. Ken Powell was the announcer. Fritz Block directed and was one of the writers. Walter B. Gibson, Ed Gruskin, and Nancy Webb also wrote for the program. Charles Michelson was the producer.

New York City is the center of the universe, at least we think so. But what if it turned out that the universe didn’t revolve around us but in fact we revolved around… Albany? If the Democrats finally retake the state Senate and the Empire State turns deep blue, everything changes for Mayor de Blasio. Or at least that's what he hopes. We talked with political science professor Jeanne Zaino and Working Families Party boss Bill Lipton about the high stakes in this year's elections, plus City Council Speaker Corey Johnson calls in to run down what he says Harry Siegel got wrong in episode one.

The Chase is an exciting Old Time Radio series in which every episode contains, well, a chase. Tales, highly melodramatic and often improbable, of people on the run. The concept of "hunter and hunted" was built into the signatures. with the lone bugle of a fox hunt, the braying of dogs, the sounds of a man running, a gunshot, and the slowing footsteps and eventual fall of the victim. It may be an adventure story, a crime story, or even science fiction, but there will always be a suspense filled chase.THIS EPISODE:August 14, 1952. NBC network. "The Amusement Park". Sustaining. A young woman leaves her shooting gallery with a new friend to solve a murder and catch a pyromaniac. The system cue has been deleted. Adelaide Klein, Arthur Gary (announcer), Bill Lipton, Charles O'Neill (writer), Daniel Sutter (director, transcriber), Jack Lloyd, Lawrence Klee (creator, writer), Patrick Campbell, Sydney Smith, Walter Black. 29:27.
Mr. Moto is small in stature but strong and an expert in judo. He was the title character of a series of books, beginning with No Hero (1935; British title: Mr Moto Takes a Hand, reprint title: Your Turn, Mr. Moto), and of eight films between 1937 and 1939, in which he was portrayed by Peter Lorre. With the beginning of World War II, Mr. Moto fell out of favor with Americans, and no new books or movies about him appeared between 1942 and 1957. A dedicated and cold-blooded spy for Imperial Japan, Moto is not a conventional hero. He does not look for opportunities to commit violence but has no problem with killing people who obstruct his plans, and he would not hesitate to take his own life if necessary. But he is a master of concealing his true nature while under cover, and usually appears dull, naive, utterly harmless. He does not try to correct the bigoted attitudes of Westerners toward him and other Asians, and is not above encouraging such condescension. It often works to his advantage, leading Westerners to ignore or underestimate him.THIS EPISODE:Mr. I. A. Moto. July 1, 1951. NBC net. "Project 77". Sustaining. Not auditioned. A scientist is tortured to revealed the secrets of, "Project 77." John P. Marquand (creator), Harry W. Junkin (writer, director), Carol Irwin (producer), Bill Smith, Connie Lembcke, Bill Lipton, James Monks, Fred Collins (announcer), Scott Tennyson, Ian Martin. 29:35.
