Must-See! +++ PLAYLIST +++ 22:56 – FRIENDS WITH ORANGES von LISA HARRES 22:51 – J'ADORE LE MONDE von THE LIMIÑANAS & BERTRAND BELIN 22:47 – GUMSHOE von YOUTH LAGOON 22:43 – PYRAMID SCHEME von HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF 22:37 – LEFTOVERS von KING HANNAH 22:33 – DON'T LOOK BACK von TEENAGE FANCLUB 22:28 – DRAGGIN' von HANNAH COHEN 22:24 – GOLDEN YEARS von TOCOTRONIC 22:20 – SPORT MEETS SOUND von HORSEGIRL 22:16 – ROCK CITY von HORSEGIRL 22:12 – SWITCH OVER von HORSEGIRL 22:09 – HALLWAYS von PUP 21:56 – EVERYTHING IS PEACEFUL LOVE von BON IVER 21:52 – FLIRTED WITH YOU ALL MY LIFE von VIC CHESNUTT 21:45 – THE KÖLN CONCERT: PART II c von KEITH JARRETT 21:39 – HOPE THERE'S SOMEONE von ANTONY & THE JOHNSONS 21:34 – NO FRONT TEETH von PERFUME GENIUS FEAT. por Kevin Kulp Espadas del Serpentino en un juego de espada y brujería para ser jugado con el sistema GUMSHOE que puedes ambientar en cualquier lugar, incluso en tu propia invención.

Well friends, here we are. Nathan and Eppy take a day trip with Jim to Parma, CA in the series finale episode. The sixth season of The Rockford Files was cut short by James Garner's medical needs, so this last episode was not intended to be a goodbye to the series. Thankfully, we found that it did feel like an appropriate way to bid adieu to Jim, the Firebird, and all of the Rockfordishness we love so much. This is the last regular episode of this podcast! We will have a couple new episodes a year covering other shows in the wider Rockford/Garner/PI-i-verse, but we have now talked about every episode, of The Rockford Files. Thanks for listening! We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Nathan and Eppy start from the beginning with S1E1 The Kirkoff Case. Jim's client is a real slimeball who's been arraigned, but not prosecuted, for murdering his own parents. The money is too good for Jim to drop the case, and then it gets personal when he takes a beating from not a "goon", but a "labor organizer". This series premiere episode shows us that this PI gets beat up a lot, but he doesn't quit - and he's going to be a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Add in a noir-inflected plot and great casting, we're confident in saying that if you wanted to start watching The Rockford Files, this would be a good place to start! Nathan and Eppy go to where it all began with the TV movie pilot for The Rockford Files: 1974's Backlash of the Hunter. It's a good excuse to talk about the roots of Rockfordishness, the greatness of the casting, and the changes to come for the main show. While we obviously can't watch it with fresh eyes, it is a solid Huggins story elevated with first looks at all of our favorite elements as well as trips to Vegas, explosions, and a blood-chilling villain. I dunno, I think they might be onto something with this Rockford Files thing! We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Nathan and Eppy bid a bittersweet farewell to Rita with the final Rockford Files TV Move: If It Bleeds... It Leads (1999). This was a hard one! Rita's husband, schoolteacher Ernie (Hal Linden) is falsely accused of a series of child sexual assaults, and while Jim helps to clear his name, it's not enough to prevent a series of tragedies. While this one has wonderful performances and some great spots of the Rockfordishness we always love, the content and tone made it tough to say we "enjoyed" it. It did give us great closure on "Rita and Jim, their whole thing" but, unfortunately, was not the warm victory lap to bid farewell to our friends that we kinda wanted. Content Warnings: the plot is about a child rapist, scenes include child endangerment and there is a (relatively) graphic suicide. We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. It's a special episode! Nathan and Eppy are drafting elements from The Rockford Files to construct two pitches for Rockford Files episodes that never were. Nathan and Eppy get re-acquainted with national treasure Rita Moreno in S6S8 No Fault Affair. After Jim's friend Rita, a sex worker, gets beat up badly by her pimp, he nurses her back to health - and she falls for him in the process. He has to navigate her emotions while she's trying to get out of her current life, but of course it's not going to be quick or easy. This is the last "regular" episode of the show for us, and we're really glad it fell here. It gives us almost all of our favorite things in the Rockford Files, and we have a lot to talk about! Nathan and Eppy take a little tour through Malibu in S6E1 Paradise Cove. Mariette Hartley joins James Garner in this final season premier episode as Althea, a court-appointed adjuster sent to audit Jim in the wake of a lawsuit he lost to fellow Cove resident C.C. Calloway. Calloway wants to get Jim, or at least his trailer, out of the way because of a 50-year search for literal buried treasure, and once Jim figures that out he's able to get Althea on his side of the treasure-hunt. Nathan and Eppy revisit the first of our "lost episodes" with S4E11 Forced Retirement. An old college friend of Beth's is involved with a secretive undersea submersible project, and after Beth surprises an intruder in her apartment, Jim offers to look into it. He calls in his Jimmy Joe Meeker persona to pose as an investor, kangaroo-skin boots and all; but when the inventor's plane blows up, Jim and Beth have to figure out what's going on before someone else dies. Nathan and Eppy close out Season Three with S3E18 New Life, Old Dragons. Jim is hired by a Vietnamese refugee to find her missing brother, but as he (reluctantly) pursues the case, it becomes clear that he doesn't know the whole story. When Rocky takes a beating, it turns personal, and Jim needs to figure out where the danger is coming from - the kidnappers, or his own client! Also, Rocky wants to paint Jim's trailer. It's an unusual episode in a lot of ways, and we discuss the assumptions we brought into our viewing, and how the episode subverts them. We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Nathan and Eppy finish the main tour through the first season with the 90-minute S1E6 This Case Is Closed. Jim's client sends him to Newark to check up on a soon-to-be son-in-law, and Jim starts getting heat from the mob, the cops and the feds - and he doesn't know why! With an unconventional narrative structure, plenty of good car chases and lots of Cannell-written memorable dialogue, this Roy Huggins script delivers a solid early-series Rockford experience. Note: This episode was split into two for syndication, and the sydicated versions are what's currently available on streaming services. Nathan and Eppy take a road trip in S1E9 In Pursuit of Carol Thorne. Jim is hired to keep an eye on a newly-released-from-prison Carol Thorne - but he's not the only one! Carol takes a hike and Jim pursues her to Nevada, only to find that he's being used by a conman to get Carol to find another member of his old gang who's sitting on a million-dollar score. Not really a con game episode, we enjoyed the con characters as part of a fun, easy-to-watch season one romp. Recommended! We are so back! And so are weddings. In 1953, Ann Lowe made a wedding dress for Jackie Kennedy's highly publicized wedding. However, it would be years before Ann Lowe was credited as the creator of the infamous dress. Today we explore how royalty affects bridal trends, why we wear white on our wedding days, and what "back tie optional" even means. To make things even better, today we are joined by Harling Ross to hear how the Gumshoe writer approaches wedding guest attire. For links from today's episode, including shopping recommendations from the hosts, visit covered.substack.com. Covered is hosted by Ruby Redstone and Natalie Brennan. Ruby Redstone is a writer and fashion historian. Her newsletter, Old Fashioned, examines the history of dress and personal style. Natalie Brennan is a writer and podcast producer, interested in the intersection of history and culture. Her newsletter, ISO, looks at style through the lens of yearning and desire.
Buy Less...and Dress To Impress? Fashion editor turned style icon Harling Ross Anton is here to drop some serious shopping knowledge (and share her sleep & happiness transformation after working with me as a client!)Sometimes choosing not to purchase something is as satisfying as choosing to purchase it. So says my lovely client Harling Ross Anton, the former Man Repeller editor turned Gumshoe creator & writer. Harling joined me on The Snooze Button this week to share her expertise on how to hunt for hidden gems (spoiler - shop off season), why fabrics and measurements matter so much, and even how to shop for pregnancy and baby clothes. We also chatted about Harling's experience working with me to improve her baby's son's sleep & feeding challenges - I can say personally, it's a really special transformation story. Nathan and Eppy join Jim for one of his most unique challenges in S1E8 Find Me If You Can. His client has hired Jim to find... her. While the money is good, the mystery surrounding why Barbara (Joan Van Arc) is trying to stay un-discoverable concerns Jim, and his search for answers takes him to the mob boss of Denver, played by Paul Michael Glaser. * Parlainth Adventures: Threads * Return to form; facing a Horror threat. * Higher challenge. * Roots lie in Parlainth's history and is now threatening Haven. * Does not require as much established NPC relationships as earlier adventures. * Can benefit from some foreshadowing and build-up. * Hired to investigate escalting violence in Haven. * Fairly linear, can run into "mystery adventure" problems. * Some guidance into how the adepts can notice weird magic. * Not so much about the investigation, just following the thread to the cause. * How these adventures sidestep the "investigation" phase. * Some ideas for expanding the early stages. * Excursion into the ruins. * The Cult of Pain and what has gone before. * The Abomination and its plans. * "Kaer crawl" in the Western Catacombs. * Analyzing the Horror's stat block. * Linear and traditional, but not bad for it. * Sidebar about mystery and investigation plots. * Gumshoe, Brindlewood Bay, and Apocalypse Keys. * Levels of success on Perception tests. * Final thoughts. Welcome to Twenty Dollars a Day, the podcast where we explore our favorite holodeck adventures in the Star Trek universe! Nathan and Eppy are bidding a fond farewell to this podcast with our final episode: the second Next Generation movie, First Contact. Look, it has a Dixon Hill holodeck appearance, so it counts enough for us to talk about it - and it's a great movie! Thanks for trekking through all the holodecks, holosuites and photonic landscapes over the years. End program. Happy April, everyone! This is our seventh and final look at the slice of the Star Trek universe that intersects with our first love, The Rockford Files. Hope you enjoy it! We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Nathan and Eppy hit the gym in S3E10 Piece Work. Jim's insurance investigation gig happens to intersect with flashy dresser Murray Rosner (Michael Lerner), a freelancer for the feds who's getting a gun buy together. After a series of paranoid assumptions, Jim takes a beating from the gun-running goons, uncovers the scheme and brings in Dennis for a bust that doesn't happen. Between Chapman threatening to pull his license and Murray's conviction that Jim is trying to take over the operation, Jim has a lot to handle! This fun romp of an episode gives us a memorable character and a lot of great Rockfordishness, a great watch! Nathan and Eppy make a trip to the dump in S3E8 Rattlers' Class of '63. Angel is getting married! Jim is surprised but supportive - until he learns that it's Angel's way of ducking the fallout from a "Red Barn" con gone wrong. His new brothers-in-law are trying to sell a landfill, but once one of them is found dead, Angel and Jim look good for the murder. They need to find the real killer before Chapman can build a case, which sends Jim on a search for the deadly secret buried under the trash. Our last episode written by David Chase, it's a good one even before getting to a top-five finale scene! Nathan and Eppy hit the streets of LA for the penultimate 90s TV Movie, Murder and Misdemeanors. A fellow ex-con-turned-PI, Booker Hutch (John Amos), cons Jim into taking his remaining caseload - and before he can even look over the files, Jim's fielding police harassment. There's an investigation into potentially dirty cops, a reporter hungry for a story (Isabel Glasser), some great goons, and Angel hovering to take advantage of Jim's sudden notoriety - a perfect mess for our friend Jim to untangle! Thankfully, he makes a good friend along the way. A very 70s-era feeling movie, this one isn't as ambitious as some previous 90s stories, but it certainly satisfies with Rockfordishness. We need a little Christmas - and some Christmas mysteries! To celebrate the season, I'm sharing more of my favorite holiday adventures of old time radio detectives. Dr. Watson dresses as Santa and Sherlock Holmes thwarts a robbery in "The Night Before Christmas," with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (originally aired on Mutual on December 24, 1945). On Casey, Crime Photographer, our hero spies a pickpocket at a department store and discovers a case of kidnapping and murder in "Christmas Shopping" (originally aired on CBS on December 19, 1946). Boston Blackie tries to catch a jewel thief on Christmas Eve in a syndicated mystery, and Candy Matson is hired to find one of Santa's helpers who's gone missing in "Jack Frost" (originally aired on NBC on December 10, 1949). Finally, Charles Russell is "the man with the action-packed expense account" in "Small Time Swindles of Big Time Department Stores, or How I Played Santa Claus and Almost Got Left Holding the Sack" from Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar (originally aired on CBS on December 24, 1949).
