Jordan, Damon & Tony are curious – how does the work of Queer nightlife curators impact our ability to find community? In closing out Wind series, we are excited to pay tribute to a space that has long represented freedom for Queer individuals: nightlife. This supersized episode of Surface Level is dedicated to the legacy of Black Queer nightlife giant, Frank Watson, who we lost earlier this year. We welcome 3 impressive curators in their own right to our Surface Level family, Joe Morris founder of Joe Morris Events and co-owner of Brunch Harlem, Micah Marquez co-founder of Deviant Events, and Chuck co-owner of Lambda Lounge Harlem and Club Lambda Brooklyn. From discriminations they have faced, to the complexities of managing large crowds, to the desire they have in curating brands that represent the broad desires of Queer individuals looking for community, we cover a lot. This episode was a fun one to be a part of so get ready for a wild ride. We know a lot but we don't know it all, so join the conversation on social and let us know your thoughts.

Butch Queen. High Fashion. We're not going to be shady, just fierce.Take it to the runway.
The two gays are back to recap the second episode of WOW's UK Vs. The World! This week they're recapping all the queen's looks in the “RuPaul Ball”, where they must present in three different categories: “Kitty Girl”, “Butch Queen”, and “You Wear It Well”. They score all of the looks on a scale of 1-10, so find out how their scores compare with the judges critiques.
It's the RUPAUL BALL! Category is: 1. Kitty Girl 2. Butch Queen 3. You Wear it Well (Queens must make this look from scratch!) Damon, Jordan & Tony are curious about the joy and pain the Queer social scene can create. This episode discusses our experiences in Queer social settings. Do the current social options represent the interest of too narrow a selection of Queer men? We discuss memorable club experiences, our ideal social settings, anxieties we face in Queer social settings, the Harlem social scene, and the defining elements of an upper echelon Queer social experience. We welcome Leon Curry to Surface Level. He is the creator of the infamous Trappy Hour party and man behind its boisterous social media presence. Trappy Hour has a following that includes big names like Issa Ray but more importantly aims to create a safe space for the Black butch queens of the world. We explore Leon’s personal experience from small town Florida to a Harlem staple with all of its unexpected turns. Black Queer safe spaces are a must in this world and this week we explore one that was created in our native Harlem. So join us as we explore what we affectionately call Club Surface Level.

Welcome back! It’s Episode 10 of Smoke Til It’s Gone Or Die! This week Patty starts us off with the mysterious death of Azaria Chamberlain and the infamous wrongful conviction of Lindy Chamberlain. If there’s anything we know about Australia, it’s that the wildlife can be dangerous. There’s Dingos out there and they’re snatching your babies up. Hide your kids, hide your wife. And don’t forget the nappies. In a blaze of glory, Rylee and Patty reach their lowest peak yet and roll up a second one for Rylee’s case. Rylee dives into René Descartes, the philosopher who famously wrote, “I think, therefore I am.” But in the most predictable way, this tale of philosophy and conspiracy of murder is mostly a coverup for Rylee to tell us all about one of their favorite historical Lesbian Storylines™. In reference to Patty’s case please research and donate to The Innocence Project at https://www.innocenceproject.org/ The Innocence Project, founded in 1992 by Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck at Cardozo School of Law, exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. As fires on the West Coast of the U.S. continue to rage, we ask you to donate to Wildfire Relief. You can do so at https://www.redcross.org/, and by choosing “Western Wildfires” in the dropdown menu. Please also read the following article from the Marshall Project, a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system. In this article, the Marshall Project outlines the reality that incarcerated people are being put on the front lines of fighting the forest fires, for little or no pay, without having the ability to use that experience to work as a firefighter once reintegrated into society. Read the article here: https://www.themarshallproject.org/2020/09/02/the-former-prisonersfighting-california-s-wildfires Donate to the Marshall Project here: https://www.themarshallproject.org/donate Thanks for listening! Harmonica Sunbeam is an entertainer, mother. activist, role model, and Drag Queen. She made her thrilling debut at an NYC drag ball nearly three decades ago when she walked in a category called "Butch Queen, First Time Up in Drag at a Ball" and won. Now she's a part of the Drag Queen Story Hour representing North Jersey and New York. Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH began in San Francisco Michelle Tea in 2015 and has since exploded across the nation and overseas. Harmonica responded to an open audition and took the training to be a storyteller. Her first Drag Queen Story Hour was in the library in New York City with 75 children in attendance and was covered by The New York Times. In 2018 Harmonica was interviewed as part of HBO’s The Studio celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. Drag Queen Story Hour is trying to raise a new generation of children who along with their families and communities are accepting of each other, open to being who they are, and understanding that we're not all the same and it's OK. Drag Queen Story Hour captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.
