Roestig. Hoe debieler hoe beter! In this episode, Robin talks about what she's been up to, seeing Chelsea Wolfe, and then dives into the latest developments from the UAP sightings around the country. Why are they being covered on NPR and CNN? Also discussed is the Congressional hearing on UAPs, the intriguing intersection of psychics and law enforcement, and channeler Darryl Anka. Let's get weird. -------------Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/wesawthedevilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/wesawthedevilpodcastRobin's Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/robin_wstdDiscord: https://discord.gg/gDevRryX Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-a-true-crime-podcast--4433638/support.
To kick off this late October episode, Atticus brings us into the spirit of his favorite holiday with a Chelsea Wolfe track remixed by Boy Harsher - a perfect goth/dark wave pairing for Halloween. He also shares some dizzying psych-pop, his favorite lines from a singer-songwriter with “goofy and smart” lyricism, and the story of how he first discovered The Cramps' Halloween classic. Atticus hosts a Variety Mix every Friday morning (aka late Thursday night) from 1-5am and will be doing a Halloween special the night of Oct 31/Nov 1. We also hear an honest, heart wrenching song from former Girls-frontman Christopher Owens, recommended by Music Director Chris Sanley. Songs featured: Chelsea Wolfe - “House of Self-Undoing (Boy Harsher Remix)" Dummy - “Nine Clean Nails” MJ Lenderman- “Wristwatch" The Cramps - “Goo Goo Muck” Christopher Owens - "Do You Need a Friend” Listen to the full songs on KEXP's "In Our Headphones 2024" playlist on Spotify or the “What's In Our Headphones” playlist on YouTube. Isaurian, the Brazilian doomgaze/post-rock project, will release their new album, ‘The Pulsing Rush', on October 25th. Having emerged in 2017 with the desire to make heavy, intense and emotional art via a group of musicians with more than 20 years of experience, Isaurian have made records with some of the most renowned producers in the world. Proudcers like Rhys Fülber (Paradise Lost, Fear Factory), Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Caspian), Kevin Ratterman (Emma Ruth Rundle, Sumac) and Chris Common (Pelican, Chelsea Wolfe). Alongside renowned producer Jesse Gander (Brutus, Anciients), this new album sees the band delving deeper into their heavy origins while still exploring shoegaze and post-rock soundscapes, touching on themes of love, sex, loss and depression. After going through a production period plagued by personal issues that included the death of a brother and a cancer diagnosis, Isaurian has delivered their most mature and complex record to date while maintaining the band's main characteristic: real, heartfelt, emotional, human music. It these incredible peaks and valleys that we explore in this interview. Speaking with songwriter / guitarist / vocalist Jorge Rabelo about the new record and how they made it a reality under such testing circumstances. We also explore the detail within the record, the reasons they don't play live much, what the future might hold, and so much more. The Beatles [00:29] "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Apple Records SMAS-2563 1967 (1971 Los Angeles gatefold pressing) Enjoy the stereo separation! Billy Preston [03:58] "Get Back" Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band RSO RS-2-4100 1978 So yeah. A soundtrack to a movie that is very much of it's time. Not only tdo we have The Bee Gees and Peter Framption as the titular band, we have Earth Wind & Fire doing "Got to Get You into My Life", George Burns doing "Fixing a Hole", Alice Cooper doing "Because", Aerosmith handling "Come Together", and my second favorite track: Steve Martin doing a wild and crazy version of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (https://youtu.be/F__uGshlbOo?si=qn4U4_ZIGttfns5E). This version of Get Back by the one and only Billy Preston still seals the deal for me. If you are inclined to check out this film, I can only say that it is very much of its time (https://youtu.be/oioCI1p6Y30?si=34PQo_XspuXmnRPc). Lord only knows how much white powder was used in the production. Love and Rockets [07:01] "Haunted when the Minutes Drag" Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven Beggars Banquet BEGA66 1985 The debut outing from 3/4 of Bauhaus. Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins do an excellent job of building an atmospheric experience to transition away from the darkness of their previous efforts. The Moody Blues [16:29] "You and Me" Seventh Soujourn Threshold THS 7 1972 Maybe it's me, but it seems like the intro could have been 8 bars or so shorter. True story: the first pair of concert tickets that I ever won from listening to the radio was for The Moody Blues on their Long Distance Voyager tour. For some reason my parents didn't think it would be appropriate for a 13 year old to go, so I got to keep the record (long since lost) and gave my tickets to the high school kids across the street. The Cars [20:46] "Since You're Gone" Shake It Up Elektra 5E-567 1981 Classic side one, track one. Dig the Frippian guitar solo. Ornette Coleman [24:18] "Focus on Sanity" The Shape of Jazz to Come Atlantic SD 1317 1959 (2010 Rhino reissue) You and me both, Ornette. This week we're discussing She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She, the latest album by Chelsea Wolfe. Aside from being a mouthful, this album has Wolfe once again taking a sharp detour from the style of her last album—this time into mind-bending, dark electronic. Wolfe rarely disappoints and this record is no different. Chelsea Wolfe is a critically-acclaimed singer, guitarist, and songwriter, who has been hailed by Guitar World as “the queen of gothic industrial guitar.” Her dark and dreamy music has also been described as doom-folk and goth-folk, though her albums have spanned genre from rock to electronica. She's been celebrated for her solo offerings and her collaborations, including her otherworldly contributions on the soundtrack to the 2022 horror film, X. Chelsea's seventh studio album under her own name is called She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She, and it will be out on February 9th on Loma Vista. It is a gorgeous, epic, and cathartic offering blending elements of trip-hop with her signature shadowy guitar and entrancing vocals. Several singles and videos from this album have dropped already, each exquisite in their own right. The new album is available for pre-order now, as are tickets to Chelsea's 2024 tour, so be sure to snag yours before it all sells out. On this episode, Chelsea discusses the revolving and revolutionary power of her new album, her recent magical expansion, and the ways in which her music has manifested true change in her life.Pam also talks about triple goddesses, and answers a listener question about breaking through creative blocks.Chelsea Wolfe songs featured in the episode are all from She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She:"Whispers in the Echo Chamber""Tunnel Lights""Everything Turns Blue"Our sponsors for this episode are Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, Natasha Levinger's Getting to Know Woo podcast, BetterHelp, and Sphere + SundryWe also have brand new print-on-demand merch like Witch Wave shirts, sweatshirts, totes, stickers, and mugs available now here. And if you want more Witch Wave, please consider supporting us on Patreon to get access to bonus Witch Wave Plus episodes, Pam's monthly online rituals, and more! Lou deals with plumbing issues and Jaime deals with broken arms. Audio for this one may be a bit wonky due to the industrial fans blowing in the background. I did my best to clean it up. Lou listens to the remake of Dark Side of the Moon so you don't have to (although you really should give it a listen; it's pretty darn good) and we give early impressions of the Thurston Moore Bio. Stick around after the closing song for an except from our 2017 review of Chelsea Wolfe and Youth Brigade. For that matter, check out Episode 32 of this very podcast for an expanded discussion and our review of “Hiss Spun”. Songs featured in Episode 126: “Disconnect” – Private Mind “I'm JK” - The Paranoyds Roger Waters and Chelsea Wolfe, and the Rolling Stones are also discussed, but not featured. Motörhead had experienced a lot of adversity and change by the time they reached the ‘90s. With a four year gap between releases, the band traded one tumultuous record label relationship for the next and leader Lemmy Kilmister made the continental move from England to LA. This was a time for reinvention, but in true Motörhead fashion that just meant putting out the best version of what the band had to offer and that was loud, fast rock ‘n' roll. Join us in celebrating a hidden gem of sorts from a band that was known for doing what they wanted, when they wanted, & how they wanted. Mark Pellington's pioneering influence on music videos as a modality to convey emotion, story and feeling will never be forgotten. From Leonard Cohen to Linkin Park, Michael Jackson to Public Enemy, Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains to Chelsea Wolfe and Bruce Springsteen, MP had penultimate foresight in constructing some of the most memorable portraits of love, war, loss, spirit and activism. His feature films each brought a tenet to the medium of storytelling. From 1997's Going All The Way (Ben Affleck, Jeremy Davies, Rachel Weisz, Rose McGowan), to the Grand Prix/Saturn Award-nominated Arlington Road (Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Hope Davis); to The Mothman Prophecies, an intriguing parapsychological adaptive tale starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney; the dramedy, Henry Poole is Here; a story of friendship and loyalty in I Melt With You (Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane, Christian McKay, Robe Lowe); the subtle poetry of grief, The Last Word; Nostalgia, with Catherine Keener and Jon Hamm headlining an ensemble cast; and the dance-expanse, The Severing, in 2022. His latest book, The Visualist, is an essential memoir surveying 40 years of shape-shifting filmmaking experiences. In our conversation, we discussed his approach towards film and music videos; his journey to New York City; the significance of archive; and his recent Director's cut release of Going All the Way.Opening Credits: M33 Project - On y va I CC BY-NC 4.0 DEED Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International; Jangwa - Losing Ground I CC BY-NC 4.0 DEED Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International. Arielle chats about working in the music industry before fashion and how the two have coalesced into TPC, starting the company as a vintage upcycling brand, evolving into tarot and witchcraft, inspirations and collaborating with the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, A.A. Williams and Emma Ruth Rundle, and selling on tours and festivals.
In 2001 VH1 debuted the show Bands on the Run. It was a massive hit, yet it only lasted one season... We felt like it needed much more attention. In the wake of Flickerstick's reunion (long after Soulcracker, Harlow, and Josh Dodes threw in their towels), we have decided to break down this insanely dated time-capsule of what-the-f*ckedness and talk with other touring musicians, friends, and music journalists about what they got wrong and what they got right. For this episode Ian, Nat, and Ross are joined on this trip to Atlanta by the incredibly talented Ben Chisholm. He might be the only person we know that has been seen in concert by a member of Harlow, he plays with Chelsea Wolfe, and has worked on some of the best music out there today, indluding Jaye Jayle, The Armed, the soundtrack to X, Mutoid Man, and more. You can watch every episode of the show for free on youtube HERE. Catch up and catch the magic. If you want early access to these episodes, head over to the Rigs of Dad Patreon Page where you can also hear more unedited, ad-free interviews with previous guests, patreon exclusives, and beyond! PLUS early access to other episodes, including my recent conversation with Evan Patterson of Jaye Jayle, Young Widows, and Breather Resist! Ian has some tunes with his project The Interesting Times Gang that you should check out and support via bandcamp. And his band Kowloon Walled City will be touring with Jaye Jayle this summer!!! Ross's band Burial Waves will be playing with Spotlights June 22nd at The Metro in Baltimore and with Teen Mortgage at Comet Ping Pong in Washington DC on June 23rd. Ben worked with Ross on the debut COGENTS ALBUM which will be out June 20th wherever you listen to music. Nat and Ian have some tunes you must check out. It's really hard to be a newly diagnosed autistic person and not know any autistic people. So it's time for Lauren to make some autistic friends. But it's not as easy as you might think. Which is why Lauren has to call up some big guns — Olympic BMX rider Chelsea Wolfe, New Zealand pop star Ladyhawke and best-selling author Katherine May — and force her friendship upon them.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
