Welcome back to... no, that can't be right... Episode 30?! of Smoke Til' It's Gone or Die! Somehow we've made it this far, and we're so thrilled you are along for the ride. In this episode, Patty tells the tale of the Connecticut River Valley Killer who has never been caught, despite all the evidence compiled over multiple years from multiple victims; this one is wild, with an 'I Survived' tale as well as some described violence that may not be suitable for the softer-hearted. Rylee dives deeper into CBD, how we interact with it, and the potential effects it can have on our little stoner bodies! SOJ provides grants to law enforcement for advanced DNA analysis solutions, such as forensic genealogy and next-generation sequencing. The organization also awards grants to families to support awareness campaigns, search teams and other initiatives that can assist in pushing their cold cases forward. It's the long awaited return of Smoke Til It's Gone Or Die! After the comedy of errors of the past 6 months, we've finally gathered our shit and are ready to get back into it. We've restructured a bit, but the stoned nonsense hasn't changed. Rylee educates us with the history and background of the Cannabis plant and how we've come to know how it really affects us. They dive into the endocannabinoid system and all the little synapses it takes to make YOU stoned. Patty went on the deepest dive into a murder that shook the tiny state of Rhode Island. The terrifying tale of Christopher Hightower and the murder of the Brendel family easily could have been ten hours long, but Patty restrains herself. And thus, the first part of a two-part case comes to you now. Roll up a doob (or two) and let's get into it! This week Rylee asks you to read about and make a donation to Marijuana Policy Project. As always, it's our duty as a stoners to educate ourselves and donate money to these amazing folks. MPP is the largest organization in the U.S. that's focused solely on enacting humane marijuana laws. MPP's mission is to change federal law to allow states to determine their own marijuana policies without federal interference, to allow the medical use of cannabis in all 50 states and U.S. territories, and to regulate marijuana like alcohol. Go to mpp.org to check it out! Patty's Probable Cause this week is Child & Family of Rhode Island. At Child & Family they hold two core beliefs; that individuals and communities thrive when supported by strong families, and that a community works best when it is willing to accept responsibilities for all of its members. This week on Smoke Til It's Gone or Die, we're back! It's been quite the hiatus but your favorite stoned hosts are back and not necessarily better than ever, but we're definitely back. Patty tells the creepy tale of twin sisters Ursula and Sabina Eriksson who experienced a strange but short winded episode of folie a duex. Rylee shares an "I Survived" about British Airways flight 5390 and the heroes that kept all 87 occupants safe after a mechanical failure led the plane into an almost-deadly nose dive. Patty's Probable Cause this week is The Mental Health Coalition: We are a coalition of the most passionate and influential organizations, brands, and individuals who have joined forces to end the stigma surrounding mental health and to change the way people talk about, and care for, mental illness. Rylee's Probable Cause is Keshet; For LGBTQ Equality in Jewish Life: Keshet envisions a world in which all LGBTQ Jews and our families can live with full equality, justice, and dignity. By strengthening Jewish communities and equipping Jewish organizations with the skills and knowledge they need to make all LGBTQ Jews feel welcome, we work to ensure the full equality of all LGBTQ Jews and our families in Jewish life. Oh, how we have missed you! After a hiatus (because of you know, life), Smoke Til It's Gone Or It's Gone Or Die is back with Episode 27! This week, Rylee tells us what America's Favorite trash pizza, Dominos, and the omnipresent Noid could possibly have to do with true crime. And how Food and Wine Magazine managed to be one of their sources. Feeling in her best friend feels, Patty shares the heartbreaking (but redeeming and oh-so satisfying) story of the murder of Angela Samota and her best friend, Shiela Wysocki, who solved the case. In reference to Rylee's case, please visit and donate to https://mhanational.org/. Mental Health America's work is driven by its commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness, including prevention services for all; early identification and intervention for those at risk; integrated care, services, and support for those who need them; with recovery as the goal. Patty's Probable Cause this week is Project: Cold Case. Please visit and donate at https://projectcoldcase.org/ Project: Cold Case was born out of a desire to provide hope to families of unsolved homicide victims. They are a not-for-profit organization with an ambitious goal of publicizing all unsolved homicides in the United States while linking information, families, and law enforcement, and ultimately, helping to solve cold cases. In a very special STGD Probable Cause, we would like to feature the story of Daniel Threadgill. In 2012, Daniel was wrongfully convicted of a murder he did not commit. He was sentenced with no priors to double the standard range. Daniel has so far served 10 years of his 40 year sentence. Hello friends! It's Episode 25 of Smoke Til It's Gone Or Die! Patty's stoned ass was shocked that she hadn't yet covered one of her favorite psychological phenomena, Munchausen by Proxy. She covers the heartbreaking tale of Garnett Spears, whose mother Lacey strategically poisoned to garner attention from health care professionals and her social media circle. Trying to cover an equal but opposite topic, Rylee covers the story of William James Bresnahan Jr., a young boy who killed his parents over an argument while camping. The real twist comes when we see how his life turned out after this horrible tragedy. Patty's Probable Cause this week comes in the wake of the recent uprise of hate crimes against the Asian community in the US. The Asian Mental Health Project at https://asianmentalhealthproject.com/, recognizes that there is a pervasive cultural stigma that often discourages members of the Asian American community from receiving the help they need. In many Asian American communities, and in the greater American population, there exists a general lack of knowledge about mental health and mental illnesses. Because many of the symptoms of suffering are “invisible,” it is often harder for mental illnesses to be acknowledged. There is a misconception that struggling with mental health is a choice or a sign of weakness. They are here to dispel this belief and provide resources that are accessible to all. Rylee's Probable Cause is the American Nurses Association, as National Nurses week just passed. The ANA, at https://www.nursingworld.org/, believes that dedicated nurses deserve the best practice environments, and to be supported to live the healthiest lives. ANA is committed to safeguarding nurse wellbeing, for improved patient outcomes – and happier nurses. Hello and welcome back, to Smoke Til It’s Gone or Die! Another episode of your favorite shitty little podcast is here for your listening displeasure! We’re in our mid-twenties now and feeling as spry as ever, no matter how stoned your hosts may be by the end. On this week’s episode, Patty tells us about the heartbreaking kidnapping of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College in Mexico. Despite her struggles with pronunciation, she manages to give us a heavy but necessary low-down on what happened to Mexico City back in 2014. For Rylee’s case, we travel south from Mexico to Argentina, covering the country’s most notorious serial killer, The Angel of Death, Carlos Eduardo Robledo Puch. At just 19 he committed some of Argentina's most heinous murders, and has been in jail for close to 40 years at this point and will be for the rest of his days. For Patty's Probable Cause, she asks you to check out:https://www.tlachinollan.org/ Their mission: Promote the exercise, demand and defend, from cultural diversity, the rights of the Na Savi, Me'phaa, Nauas, ñomdaa and mestizo peoples of the Mountain and Costa Chica de Guerrero regions to jointly build legitimate roads and that guarantee the validity of their human rights. Questions of favored smoking spots, best overall smoking spots, places your hosts shouldn’t have been smoking weed, and more on Episode 23: Toasted Beyond Repair. Staying on theme for their Probable Cause, Rylee’s asks that you check out and support The Roots Fund: The Roots Fund was created to empower the BIPOC Community in the wine industry by providing resources and financial support through educational scholarships, wine education, mentorship, and job placement. The Roots Fund is committed to investing in the Black, Indigenous & Latinx wine community to provide opportunities to those seeking a career or education in all aspects of wine. Patty’s Probable Cause is The Marijuana Policy Project: The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) is the number one organization in the U.S. legalizing cannabis. We passed 13 medical cannabis laws in the past 15 years, and we ran winning campaigns in eight of the 11 legalization states. No organization in the movement has changed as many cannabis laws, impacted as many patients and consumers, created as many new markets, or done more to end cannabis prohibition in the U.S. than MPP. Hello and welcome to Smoke Til It’s Gone or Die! We’re back at it again to accost your ears with Episode 22: Full Circle Full Square, rife with dramatic exclamations from both your fave stoned hosts. Patty tells the heart-wrenching story of 19-year-old Lisa Au, who went missing in 1982 on the island of Oahu. Misleads, absolute incompetence, and the suspicions of a dirty cop are just a few of the twists that make up this unsolved case. Rylee doubles (triples?) down on police incompetence with three cases of botched SWAT and police raids; highlighting the death of Alberto Sepulveda, who was shot by a SWAT team member during a raid to look for meth, the no knock search issued on Anjanette Young, and the detriment of the C.A.M.P. (Campaign Against The War On Drugs) initiative. Patty’s Probable Cause this week is the Women’s Fund of Hawai'i: https://womensfundhawaii.org/ The mission of Women’s Fund of Hawaii is to support innovative, grassroots programs that empower women and girls statewide. The Fund provides information and education on women’s and girls’ philanthropy, shines a light on women’s and girls’ issues, and increases the visibility of our grantees. Rylee asks that you check out the Drug Policy Alliance: https://drugpolicy.org/about-us The Drug Policy Alliance envisions a just society in which the use and regulation of drugs are grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights, in which people are no longer punished for what they put into their own bodies but only for crimes committed against others, and in which the fears, prejudices and punitive prohibitions of today are no more. Our mission is to advance those policies and attitudes that best reduce the harms of both drug use and drug prohibition, and to promote the sovereignty of individuals over their minds and bodies. Welcome back to Smoke Til It’s Gone Or Die! We’ve got a couple of bummers for you this week...our brains are just too aligned, we must cast out our psychic damage onto you! This week, Rylee throws us directly into the on-going kidnapping case involving Daphne Westbrook and her father John Westbrook. They take you on a winding journey through several states and recount the bizarre details of what led up to John abducting Daphne in the fall of 2019, and where they could possibly be today. Potentially last seen in Fort Walton Beach, FL. AMBER alerts are out in Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida currently. Patty tells the tale of Frank Delano Floyd, a kidnapper, murderer, and alias champion. His known victims include Cheryl Ann Commesso, and Suzanne Marie Sevakis, but there were also several children last seen in his care who were never seen again. He left carnage behind him wherever he went, but thankfully we’ve had some justice served. This week, we both feature NCMEC as our Probable Cause. https://www.missingkids.org/ The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is a private, non-profit corporation whose mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. We introduce our newest Feline Intern, Kima! Little Kitten Mews ensue. Patty tells the heartbreaking story of Karina Holmer, a Swedish au pair who came to Boston, MA after winning the lottery. Patty and Rylee share some ominous reminiscing, because the final place that Karina was seen alive was the very alleyway that we smoked in every day in college. We focus on reminding those who may have heard of the unsolved case and remember only the gruesome details to refocus on remembering who Karina was and bringing closure to this still unsolved murder. Rylee brings us on a high speed chase down The 405 with tales of Infamous Los Angeles Car Chases. We learn about the history and why we humans are so damn interested in watching these things at any hour of the day. Patty’s Probable Cause this week is Rosie’s Place of Boston, MA. https://www.rosiesplace.org/ Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women-only shelter in the United States. What began as a safe place for poor and homeless women to get a bed and a meal in Boston has grown into a community center providing wide-ranging support, education and outreach services to 12,000 women a year. Hello and welcome to Episode 17 of Smoke Til It’s Gone or Die! Welcome back to Episode 16 of Smoke Til It’s Gone or Die! This week we take in the fact that Patty doesn’t learn from her mistakes and decides to drink a THC infused lemonade to lubricate herself for this case. She covers the heartbreaking unsolved death of Amber Tuccaro, a woman of the Mikisew Cree First Nation who went missing in 2010. After a botched police investigation, a piece of evidence is released to the public two years after she went missing. This recorded phone call is thought to capture the voice of the very man responsible for Amber’s death. Do you recognize the voice? If you have any information regarding the murder of Amber Alyssa Tuccaro, please contact the Alberta RCMP at 780–412–5261, or Crime Stoppers at 1–800–222-TIPS (8477). Rylee covers the equally mysterious and unsolved case of MI6 agent, Garreth Williams. In what is basically an anti-crime scene, there was nothing out of place, nothing broken or missing, no fingerprints, or any other physical evidence. The state of his body led to nothing but wild theories and grasping motives, and remains unsolved to this day. Patty’s Probable Cause this week is The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, Inc. You can educate yourself and donate to their cause at https://www.niwrc.org/. NIWRC is a Native-led nonprofit organization dedicated to ending violence against Native women and children. Welcome back to Episode 7 of Smoke Til It’s Gone Or Die! This week, your hosts seemingly tried to cover polar opposite cases. Rylee dives into the trial and death of Socrates, the famous philosopher known for flirting with young boys and generally corrupting the youth. Rylee absolutely dunks on him and pretty much says they wish they got to punch his stupid face before the Hemlock got to him. Patty brings you right back to reality with the death of Tony McDade, a trans man of color, who was brutally murdered by police in Tallahassee, Florida. Just two days after the murder of George Floyd, Tony McDade’s murder was scarecely covered by the media, and justice has yet to be served. For Rylee’s Probable Cause, please donate to Wikipedia. The true Founding Father of our never great nation, Wikipedia has helped keep this podcast, and college students across the world afloat, all funded by donations. Toss a few dollars that way. https://donate.wikimedia.org/ For Patty’s Probable Cause, we have a lot of work to do. The director of the National Black Justice Coalition, David J. Johns, urged people to call the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-0000 “to register concern and to demand a complete investigation and public accounting for what happened to Tony McDade.” You can donate directly to Tony’s mother Wanda’s gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-tony-mcdade. This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, and to assist Tony's family in the days to come as they continue to seek justice for Tony. Marie Claire also curated a list of how you can help demand justice for Tony McDade, which you can visit below https://www.marieclaire.com/politics/a32764245/how-to-help-tony-mc-dade-donate-petitions/ Thanks for listening! This week on Smoke TIl It’s Gone Or Die, Patty and Rylee share their living eulogies with you so you, the listener, can get to know us a little better. Then Patty brings you down the sleepy rabbit-hole of Homicidal Sleepwalking. Rylee surprises Patty, per usual, with the Parker-Hulme murder case. Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, two young teenage girls, created an imaginary world that blurs the lines of their reality and fiction. In a true Folie à deux fashion, the girls commit murder when the prospect of being separated arises.  For this week’s Probable cause, Patty received a survey in the mail from the Arbor Day Foundation and got to answer a bunch of cute questions about trees. The Arbor Day Foundation works to make the world cleaner and greener in your yard and around the world. If you’ve ever enjoyed a joint in the shade of a tree in your neighborhood, please visit arborday.org and donate to help save the trees!  For Rylee’s Probable cause- they encourage you to check out OUTline New Zealand, a hotline for the LGBTQI+ community in New Zealand that offers confidential counseling services for all sorts of queer-affirming needs.   Thanks for listening! Sup y'all! It's Episode 4 of our shitty little podcast, Smoke Til It's Gone Or Die! Your favorite sky high assholes, Patty and Rylee, surprise each other with stories with lots of parallels. Patty tells the spooky story of Andrea Balcer and the murder of her parents in rural Maine on Halloween Night of 2016. Rylee dives into Aileen Wuornos, who...let’s be honest, is sort of of an icon...despite killing seven men in ICE cold blood. This week’s Probable Causes: Patty asks you to visit https://www.glaad.org/, and toss a few dollars their way. GLAAD leads the conversation. Shapes the media narrative. Changes the culture. GLAAD works through entertainment, news, and digital media to share stories from the LGBTQ community that accelerate acceptance. Patty also used one of their articles, Consistent Respect: Reporting On Transgender Crime Suspects, in her research this week. This article states that transgender people are sometimes suspected and/or convicted of crimes and that the media has a responsibility to represent all transgender people accurately, with their correct names and pronouns, and without relying on dehumanizing stereotypes. This responsibility does not change with the circumstances of a story, including instances where transgender people are suspected of crimes. To read the rest of the article visit https://www.glaad.org/publications/consistent-respect-reporting-transgender-crime-suspects Rylee asks you to check out the Ruth Ellis Center. Founded in 1999, Ruth Ellis Center (REC) has established a national reputation for quality and innovation in providing trauma-informed services for lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, and young adults, with an emphasis on young people of color, experiencing homelessness, involved in the child welfare system, and/or experiencing barriers to health and wellbeing. It is their mission to create opportunities with LGBTQ+ young people to build their vision for a positive future. Their vision is a world where LGBTQ+ young people are safe and supported no matter where they go. On Episode 3 of Smoke Til It's Gone Or Die, your favorite stoned hosts find stories that cover all of their favorite topics...Rylee covers the Burning of Bridget Cleary, one of Ireland's best recorded witch burnings. They stumble through the names of rural Irish towns and talk about a time in Ireland's history where Catholicism, Paganism, and the modern court system collided to create this outrageous crime. Patty puts on her tuke and takes you up to Canada in the mysterious death of Cindy James. Patty brings you along a timeline of years and years of stalking, harassment, and death threats, that lead to a death that police consider a suicide. Patty's Probable Cause of the week is another podcast that is a friend of ours. Marking The Path, a new podcast by Oakland based artist and author Mark Travis Rivera, explores authentic living and blazing one’s own path. As a queer, Latinx, disabled artist, Mark values representation in media, and his passion for authenticity is informed by an eclectic array of lived experiences. Native American Rights Fund, at https://www.narf.org/, focuses on preserving tribal existence, protecting tribal natural resources, and promoting Native American human rights.
