Normani came by to talk about her long awaited debut album Dopamine, why he album kept getting delayed, working with James Blake and more! Normani Kordei Hamilton, better known as just Normani, is an American singer, dancer, and songwriter. Hailing from New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina pushed her family out of the city when she was only 9 years old and the family moved to Texas. Even as a child, Normani found success in her creative endeavors, choosing to be homeschooled to focus on honing her dancing, gymnastics, and singing abilities. At age 15, Normani auditioned for “X Factor” and was placed in a girl group becoming one-fifth of Fifth Harmony, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. While she rose to prominence thanks to the group, Fifth Harmony wasn't all sunshine for Normani–Fifth Harmony was a blessing that also traumatized her. Once the group disbanded, Normani was able to explore her own sound and identity as an individual. Emerging as a solo artist, Normani's first song “Love Lies” spent 45 weeks on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart. Her next big single “Motivation” also earned a spot on Billboard's Top 40 chart. Despite the success of her singles, no albums ever came to fruition for Normani…until now. Six years after tweeting that she had her album's name picked out, Normani finally released her debut album “Dopamine” on Friday, June 14th. Today on the couch, Normani discusses the journey of getting to “Dopamine”, dating DK Metcalf, and how being in a girl group influenced who she is today.
