Recorded March 28, 2022. Blacksmith Caitlin Morris is the founder of Ms. Caitlin's School of Blacksmithing in Frederick, Maryland, and “is dedicated to sharing the craft with as many unsuspecting people as possible!” Caitlin is a dedicated teacher who learned the perils and triumphs associated with learning when she first started her craft. As a smaller-built person, she noticed the difference between technical nuance and brute strength. She learned how to get the results she wanted by breaking down body mechanics to make blacksmithing accessible to anyone and everyone who was interested. During our conversation, she underlines the importance of allowing for failure and the ways in which risk and certainty inform the processes involved in being a successful craftsperson. Caitlin's ability to observe her students and teach to their skill level is a fantastic example of the craft of teaching itself. Matthew 11 As we continue to study the Kingdom teachings of Jesus, we see him pointing out to the crowd that they missed the signs of the Kingdom. Asking for help, setting boundaries, and receiving support can feel paralyzing in postpartum and beyond. Here's an honest conversation around how to do just that. 014 | Caitlin Morris of Coaching with Caitlin One of the most important things you can do postpartum is asking for help. Sounds like something every new mother should know, right? But many of us struggle with finding our voice in, not only in asking for help but knowing what kind of help we actually need. In this episode, I chat with life and health coach Caitlin Morris about how women living up to society's standards for what it means to be a mother needs to shift. From real-life experience, Caitlin touches on all the things surrounding support in postpartum. Setting boundaries, knowing when to say no, and breaking the stigma of mom guilt are just some of the topics we cover in this episode. Support shouldn't stop after you bring a baby into this world. I hope this episode helps you find your voice, ask for help and give yourself the grace and support you deserve. Because trust me, you're not alone. Meet Caitlin Morris Hi! I'm Caitlin. I'm a wife, mom, friend, coach, trainer & fitness instructor. Like you, I also know how easy it is to put everyone else before myself. To be honest: Motherhood has been all of the beautiful things I thought it would be. It has also been unexpected and challenging in ways I didn't see coming. Since then, I've become a personal trainer behavior change specialist, learned to set boundaries and say no, prioritized workouts, my time, and self-care. I've also had a second baby and started two different programs as a life coach & health coach. I'm still learning as I go, but now I know: you don't have to do it alone. And it doesn't have to take you years as it did for me. The more time I spend working with other clients and even just other moms, other women in the wellness space, I've realized a few things: There's power in sharing our stories, in learning our struggles are our own but that we are not alone. There's power in vulnerability, asking for help, and choosing to step into our possibility. Just because it's a part of our day to take care and support others doesn't mean we have to come last. It's so important to me to help women in this way because I believe if we can create the time for ourselves, we can give so much more to others and the world around us. It’s episode number 96 and I have Caitlin Morris from Frederick, Maryland. Let me introduce her by reading her “about” web page from her http://www.mscaitlinsschool.com/ . “Ms. Caitlin hangs out with the misfits and scallywags. She sings loudly and out of tune. She is partial to walks in the rain. But the most important thing is this: Caitlin loves blacksmithing. The Vermont native runs Ms. Caitlin’s School of Blacksmithing in Maryland, which is dedicated to sharing the craft with as many unsuspecting people as possible. She also teaches at other schools up and down the east coast.“ We had a great interview discussing her background and some great info on scholarships, how she has secured a few and some tips on how you can. What We Talked About Caitlin teaches blacksmithing at her own business “Miss Caitlin's School of Blacksmithing” and at other educational institutions along the East coast of the US. Caitlin opened her school of blacksmithing in Frederick Maryland in 2015. Her blacksmith background began at the John C Campbell Folk School in 2009, her first class was taught by Matt Jenkins. She took a week’s vacation off from her day job to travel to the school for the week-long class. Soon after learning how to blacksmith Caitlin immediately started sharing her experience and teaching the craft to her friends. And so the journey of becoming a better teacher began then. Caitlin talks about the scholarships she has been granted to help with the financial aspects of taking a week-long blacksmith class. Her scholarship advice is to apply to as many as you can because this gives you the practice of writing about yourself and why you deserve a scholarship. Your verbiage will become refined through the process. One of her suggestions for metal sculpture inspiration is to look at the yearly “Metal Design International” books, they feature around 8 blacksmiths around the world.
