We love a doubleheader and we love the Ankeny soccer community, so naturally, we shot up north with our friend and Ankeny Fanatic Legend, Jacob Misel, to take in the Ankeny derby between the Hawks of Ankeny High School and the Jaguars of Ankeny Centennial High School at Northview Middle School. The girls' game showcased top-ranked Centennial against Ankeny, whereas the boys game featured a couple of squads outside the top ten, but both very much in the state tournament conversation. In addition to Misel commenting on the boys' game, we have Justin Vorster, who was on the call with Central Iowa Sports Network (CISN) for the girls' game, join us in the studio to chat about that match. All of the squads are strong and while the Centennial girls have a strong shot at the postseason, every other squad on showed on the evening that they have a shot at Cownie in early June!

During conversations, girls with autism use “we,” “they” and other plural personal pronouns differently than autistic boys do.
Mom...Dad...when can I have a girlfriend? Are you ready for that question? The question and conversation has come up in our home on different occasions, sometimes in a joking manner and others not. Dads, how do you handle the conversation? Do you embrace it or divert it? Do your teens feel comfortable talking with you about such a sensitive topic to them? Listen and engage as we talk on a perspective of teen dating. Episode 2 of the Generation GC podcast is about "Girls & Boys" from Good Charlotte's 2002 sophomore album The Young and The Hopeless. My guest this week is Tyler Young, lead guitarist of the band Makeout (Rise Records). We talk about summer camp and school dances, a reunion with one of the stars of the video many years later, and the politician that named this as their favorite GC song. Tyler also talks about how seeing - and later meeting - Good Charlotte influenced him as well as what it was like working with John Feldmann for Makeout's 2017 album The Good Life. We also gush over the new 5 Seconds of Summer record. Like what you hear? Subscribe to the show on iTunes, leave a review, and share it with a friend! Welcome Back to Out of Touch friends and Family. We have another steaming, hot topic issue for you this week as we discuss transgender and the role they may play in sports. Inspired by the recent decision in Arizona to pass a bill banning transgender females from participating in female sports, you know we had to give our 2 pennies. The room gets a little heated as defining men and women, determining advantages and answering the age old question of if a woman wants to compete with men, should she be allowed to. MANN you know its going to a wild episode, so get those ice buckets ready to cool us down, this is, Out of Touch!

Nej.
As the basketball season gets underway, Parker sits down with Centennial girls head coach John Domville and boys head coach Matt Barksdale to get their perspectives on the upcoming season. Barksdale, a Centennial grad, talks about his return to the Knights and his team's motto of "playing for February" this season. Domville discusses his team's new look for this season and what they keys for competing through a challenging Region 7-AAAAAA schedule.
On this episode, Katie Southwick came on to discuss a series of interviews she conducted with teen girls and teen boys about sexual harassment and sex education in the school system. Her own personal insights about her experiences as a 17 year old and those of the teen girls she interviewed that many "traditional" stereotypes continue to permeate current experiences. She discussed examples of sexual harassment to include catcalling, inappropriate touching and a new social media phenomenon called "cat fishing." She defined cat fishing as being approached online by someone who is assuming a false identity for the purpose of sexual harassment. She further discussed that the boys she interviewed all shrugged off or downplayed the sexual harassment they had witnessed. She further presented that these boys (when confided in - by girls who had experienced sexual harassment) all downplayed the experiences as "boys will be boys." We discussed that sex education in the area she interviewed (Guilford County, North Carolina) consisted mostly of anatomy and abstinence. We discussed the need to eliminate the fear of talking about these issues and the need of sex education to evolve - creating safe places for students to discuss/define what would be considered as appropriate healthy interactions and and discuss/define inappropriate verbal, written, physical and social media interactions. Katie further discussed how she had been discriminated against as a female seeking to play football and relayed a very important personal account of being denied acceptance on a team by a coach because she was female - because he didn't want to be known as the coach/school who had a "girl" playing on their team.

Episode 50! Two brand new guests join me to confess their middle school love of edgy pop punk(?) band Good Charlotte and the very 80's "Girls & Boys." One remembers this being her perception of "hardcore" music, while the other grew too cool for the mainstream popularity that the group achieved. Also: celebrity crush protocol, unsuccessfully trying to spike your luscious hair with egg yolks, and tales of the bro-smashing chair of my philosophy department.
