In May's introductory episode of Super Adaptables, hosts Corey “Pheez” Lee and Jonathan Sigworth discuss the ultimate social safety net - due process. In the wake of hundreds of people in the United States being deported to and indefinitely imprisoned in El Salvador, without any opportunity to plead their case in court, the constitutional right of due process for every person, citizens and non-citizens alike, is under threat. Stacey Frigerio Mahdavian graduated from UMass Amherst in 1989. She planned to work as a camp counselor that summer and then travel a bit. Unfortunately, life had another idea. On a gravel road in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, the car in which she was riding, fishtailed and then flipped four times. In between the third and fourth flip, she was thrown 100 feet from the car and sustained a spinal cord injury at L1 and L2. At the time she was told she would never walk again, nor be able to have children. In this week's episode of the QuadCast, Stacey tells us about her remarkable journey, which has had many twists and turns. Over the years, she has worked as an assistant district attorney in the Brooklyn district attorney's office, worked at a private law firm, become an advocate for the SCI community with United Spinal Association and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, and more. Most importantly/impressively, she will participate in November's New York City Marathon in a handcycle with a guide runner… who just so happens to be her 25-year-old daughter, Anastasia (the oldest of her 3 children)! Stacey is the personification of resilience, and you will hear that loud and clear in our conversation!

Ilya Salkind is one of the movie's executive producers that started the superhero genre. Superman: The Movie in 1978 taught audiences that you can believe a man can fly. Salkind's father Alexander acquired the rights to make the movie, and its sequels, Superman II and Superman III. He also exec-produced 1984's Supergirl starring Helen Slater. In this episode, Salkind gives an in-depth conversation about making those movies. He discussed casting Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and the legendary Marlon Brando. He also revealed that there was a draft of a never-made Superman V. Entitled Superman Reborn, this script was performed recently as a stage reading, the audio of which will be featured in next week's podcast episode. Salkind explains how the idea of doing the reading came to be, and how he uncovered the draft of Superman Reborn. Proceeds from the reading went to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. On a bike ride on an open road in New Jersey in 2011, Ron Gold was struck head-on by an SUV whose driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel even though it was the middle of the day. He barely survived, suffering critical injuries, and was left a paraplegic. It was bad enough the driver was totally unapologetic about causing this tragic event. Ron spent many months in rehab, not to mention wrestling with feelings of despair and hopelessness. After he finally got back home, one thing he learned, which you would likely never find out otherwise, is how challenging it is to find a reliable home health care provider. Ron and I are fellow alumni of the University of Pennsylvania, and leveraging the business acumen he had gleaned both there and in his Wall Street jobs, Ron and his wife Betsy, who had encouraged him to find purpose in his life despite his situation, founded and run LeanOnWe. This organization serves to help pair people in the New York Tri-State area who need home healthcare with screened providers, as well as enable those providers to receive a livable wage, which is often a barrier to many remaining in the profession. LeanOnWe innovatively addresses both of these shortcomings, and has now matched more than 1900 individuals with providers. In the meantime, Ron has charged back in to the athletic world, in both para-rowing, in which he has competed in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, and as a marathoner using a handcycle, where he is roughly horizontal to the ground and “pedals” with his arms. He completed the Hartford Marathon in 2:56, and then improved to 2:42 at the New York City Marathon. Along the way, he has helped the fundraising efforts of Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed in 2010 and is now an inspiring entrepreneur himself. Ron's efforts have helped raise more than $36,000 for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to aid paralysis research and treatment. Ron's story will inspire you how he pushed back against very dark times in his life, found a purpose, and had he not done that, the impacts on others that never would have been possible.Ron GoldLeanOnWe.comrongold@leanonwe.comwww.RonGold.livesubstack.com/@rongoldInstagram and Threads @the_ronniegFacebook and LinkedIn Ron GoldBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

Firstly, I had the chance to chat with Robby Heisner, the influential producer and writer for the band, Atomic Freak. Following that, I had a fascinating chat with Joshua Trower, the Education Program Coordinator at The Southern Museum of Civil and Locomotive History. Robby's life story is a compelling mix of diverse talents, challenges, and an unwavering spirit of resilience and creativity. Beginning his career as a magician, Robby mesmerized audiences with his illusions and levitations. He then transitioned into the music scene with his band, The KOPPS, known for their unique police-themed approach. Despite dealing with muscular dystrophy, Robby formed the Van Gogh band, undertaking an extraordinary journey that saw him perform at events around the country and collaborate on projects for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. After stepping away from music for some time, Robby is back with his new band, Atomic Freak. Their debut album, "NUCLEAR MELTDOWN," is a fiery blend of heavy guitar-based rock 'n' roll that pays tribute to the golden era of hard rock, fortified with a fresh, enigmatic energy. The mysterious origins of Atomic Freak have intrigued fans and critics alike, sparking curiosity and speculation. Following my dialogue with Robby, Joshua will join me to discuss one of the largest model railroading events in the southeast. With over 20 different model railroads from three states, Joshua also gives us a sneak peek into the museum's history and the renowned Great Locomotive Chase. So, let's settle in, take a moment to unwind—it's Sunday after all—and journey with us as we explore the heart and soul of 'Cobb Life.' Welcome to 'Cobb Life.' BREAK: ESOG – CU of GA ***ROBBY HEISNER 1*** BREAK: DRAKE ***ROBBY HEISNER 2*** BREAK: INGLES 7 ***JOSHUA TROWER*** BREAK: GCPS Signoff: That concludes another episode of 'Cobb Life.' A big thanks to our show sponsor, Credit Union of Georgia, for their unwavering support in making this show possible. Also, a big thanks to our guest, the creative entrepreneur from Smyrna, Robby Heisner. His inspiring story has undoubtedly left an impression. We also thank Joshua Trower from the Southern Museum of Locomotive History for his time. As we sign off, stay tuned for more episodes of 'Cobb Life.' Francesco Clark was 24 years old with a promising career at Harper's Bazaar when his entire world was turned upside-down. On June 1, 2002, Francesco dove headfirst into a swimming pool and crashed into the bottom. He became paralyzed from the neck down. Surgeons told his parents, “he will never breathe, talk or move his arms (on his own) - and forget about his legs.” His skin, now permanently impacted, was prone to breakouts, dry patches, and redness, creating a perfect storm of ongoing ailments. Francesco enlisted the help of his father, a medical doctor trained in homeopathy, to heal his skin. After five years and 78 formulations, the first Clark's Botanicals product was born. Today Clarks Botanicals Company is valued in the 10s of millions and available on Amazon, Space NK, Goop, and more.Francesco is also a national ambassador for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, helping to fund for the care and the cure of people with spinal cord injuries
