Steve has been keeping busy, slowly going through the 80,000 pages from the recently declassified JFK files. Seasoned JFK researchers who know the historic material will be able to make sense of the new JFK files. Len & Steve discuss the JFK Task Force headed by Congresswoman Anna Luna & the recent hearings. Steve finds Luna as being forthcoming & capable to the task of heading this new JFK task force. Steve is proud of his friendship with JFK researcher & author, Jefferson Morley, founder of JFK Facts website. Visit here. Oliver Stone will never be forgotten by the JFK researching community. His contributions have been priceless. The JFK movie by Oliver Stone was released in 1992, 2nd documentary Destiny Betrayed was 2021. Mr. X played by Donald Sutherland was based off the personal testimony of Col. L.Fletcher Prouty. It was beneficial to the research committee to have Oliver Stone at the first JFK hearing of the Luna Committee in Congress. They murdered JFK & got away with it, with Dulles guarding all information. Earl Warren and others never wanted to head the commission, they were ordered to by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Steve discusses the importance of the cover up with Len mentioning CE #399 and that unbelievable lie. All of the new observations fail to produce any evidence of the government’s false claims that "Oswald did it". Steve met Mark Lane in 1966 shortly after the release of Rush To Judgment. Mark introduced Steve to Jim Garrison. Jim wanted to know if Steve had any skills when Steve offered to volunteer to help Jim with his JFK investigation. Steve had read all 26 volumes of Warren Commission testimony & exhibits, with experience in photography at UCLA. Overloaded with film & photographic evidence, Garrison hired Steve as a forensic investigator in charge of this material. Steve feels the biggest discovery from this photographic & video evidence is the Zapruder film! Garrison sent Steve to the National Archives to view the unedited version of the Zapruder film. It was shockingly clear. Steve was also communicating with a liason with French Intelligence SDECE & was sent to Paris in June of 1968. French Intelligence gave Steve a copy of their near perfect copy of the Zapruder film. Film was disguised for trip to USA. Steve made copies to anyone who wanted one, he sent many films to JFK assassination researchers. JFK couldn't have been shot from the front & the back, by anyone shooting from the 6th floor of the TSBD building. Len believes this week there will be a release of the assassination of Robert Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel. All photos related to the assassinations should be released for public scrutiny. These are MURDER investigations. What happened in Dealey Plaza was a highly conscious and intentional act to completely change the direction of history. Churchill called the people who really control global politics the "High Cabal". Stay tuned for a new release this fall by Steve Jaffe, he's been busy working on a new book! Stay tuned! Until you start doing the deep research, you truly have no idea have no idea of the many lies that are told by the government. JFK's assassination completely changed the course of history, We still feel these effects. Part Two Paul Bleau @ 31:45 "The JFK Assassination Chokeholds: That Prove There Was A Conspiracy". Website "The Pepe Letters" Read here. Len & Paul discuss the latest in Paul's research & the JFK document release. Paul has an interest in the Fair Play For Cuba Committee. When Oswald joined this committee, Lee was on a mission. New Orleans wouldn't have had any appetite for communist sympathy after the Cuban Missile Crisis in the summer of 1963. Despite the logical failure of such a committee, Lee opens up a public chapter of the FPFC in New Orleans. Creation of such a committee in NO could have caused Castro issues regarding trade ...

Today on The ReWatch Party, Nick, Anthony, Elise, and Loren take on 1970's Kelly's Heroes, a World War II heist movie that somehow blends Clint Eastwood's squinting, Telly Savalas's endless grenades, Donald Sutherland's hippie tank commander, and Don Rickles trying really hard not to roast everybody. Between the practical explosions, real tanks, and a suspicious amount of leisure time during wartime, the crew digs into what made this oddball classic tick — and why it barely made any money at the box office. We break down the movie's strange mix of gritty action and bizarre counterculture vibes, plus some very questionable German accents. Along the way, we dive into behind-the-scenes chaos like Donald Sutherland's near-death experience, roast the aggressively cheerful soundtrack, and ask the real questions — like how exactly one plans to steal a sailboat home from a war zone. It's equal parts appreciation and roast session. Nick also shares the personal reason behind choosing Kelly's Heroes as his birthday pick. A sentimental connection gives this episode a little more heart, even as the crew debates whether Big Joe's endless grenades or Crapgame's side hustles were the real MVPs. As for rewatchability? Do the movie's laid-back charm and odd characters out-compete some challenges with slow pacing that may make it a tougher sell today?  Listen to find out   https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065938/

Thirty years ago this month, acclaimed director Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm) gave us a terrifying viral thriller which at the time MIGHT have seemed like pure fiction....but WAS it? :o Well regardless it was a big hit and featured a stacked cast featuring Oscar-winners Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, and Cuba Gooding Jr plus Rene Russo and the late, great Donald Sutherland. (How did those last two never receive Oscar nominations??) A brand new deadly virus has travelled from overseas via an innocent monkey who stowed away on a shipping barge....and that monkey has landed in Southern California....and this virus has started to spread around one truly unfortunate isolated small town.  People are dying as the virus mutates and the only folks who can stop it are a team of Army doctors who have to figure out how to find a cure.  It's all very '90's though very scary nonetheless....and remember to wash your hands!    Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Yesterday afternoon, the bodies of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were found at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The County Sheriff's Office did not have reason to suspect foul play this early in the investigation, and there's no official confirmation on the cause of their deaths. Many have suggested it may have been carbon monoxide poisoning. The couple had been married since 1991.Betsy Arakawa, 63, was a retired classical pianist and co-owned Pandora's Box, a home furnishings store in Santa Fe which she launched with her friend Barbara Lenihan. She resolutely avoided the spotlight and cherished her privacy, never giving public interviews and preferring to live a quiet life with her husband.Gene Hackman, 95, was a Marine Corps veteran who had wanted to act since he was ten years old and pursued that dream several years after he left the service. At the Pasadena Playhouse, Mr. Hackman and his friend Dustin Hoffman were voted “The Least Likely to Succeed” and shortly thereafter moved to NYC to prove the doubters wrong and make their way into the industry. They befriended Robert Duvall, and the three struggling actors shared apartments for much of the ‘60s.All three became some of the best actors of their generation and among the greatest of all-time. Mr. Hackman won Oscars for Best Actor (The French Connection, 1971) and Best Supporting Actor (Unforgiven, 1993), along with additional nominations for Best Actor (Mississippi Burning, 1989) and Best Supporting Actor (Bonnie & Clyde, 1968; I Never Sang for My Father, 1971).He also won three Golden Globes (five additional nominations, plus the 2003 Cecil B. DeMille Award), two BAFTAs (five additional nominations), and a Screen Actors Guild Award along with the rest of the cast of The Birdcage (1997).That's all swell, but itemizing accolades doesn't come close to doing justice to the spell cast by Gene Hackman onscreen. The magic of Mr. Hackman is that he somehow played the same person and a completely different person, simultaneously, in every movie, and it always felt exactly right. If you saw his face in a movie when you were flipping channels, you stopped to watch. Because it's Gene Hackman. I mean, Hoosiers (1986). C'mon, now.Every big character Mr. Hackman has done is so individually compelling whilst simultaneously bearing hallmarks that can only be done by Gene Hackman and wouldn't be as good without them, and we completely bought it every time.It never felt like he broke himself down for characters. He seemed to just put on a costume and act his ass off. And it always worked. My favorite performance by Mr. Hackman is Captain Ramsey in Crimson Tide (1995), the commander of a nuclear submarine who is clearly emotionally unstable and paranoid.I've watched that movie so many times, and even when he's not onscreen, Mr. Hackman looms large in every frame, somehow stealing scenes he's not even in. The pettiness and resentment and narcissism of the character is so palpable that the thought still briefly crosses my mind during every rewatch: “Damn, he's gonna get ‘em all killed.”One of the more interesting “what ifs” in the history of film casting is how Mr. Hackman almost played Calvin Jarrett, the father in Ordinary People (1980), but withdrew due to a financial disagreement with the studio. The late, great Donald Sutherland was cast instead and gave a superb performance—which was infamously snubbed for a Best Actor nomination that year—but just for a second, try to imagine Mr. Hackman in that particular role. I want to see that movie, too.Mr. Hackman fully stepped away from acting in 2004 and confirmed his retirement in subsequent years, only making a guest appearance in an episode of “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” in 2008 and lending his voice to two Marine Corps documentaries.Ms. Arakawa and Mr. Hackman remodeled a home in Santa Fe and built a quiet and peaceful life there over the past 35 years, away from all the glitz and glamour and gossip of Hollywood and the film industry, for which neither had much patience.Their idea of a good time was spending every Friday night watching stand-up comedy, Susie Izzard being one of their favorites. Their family and friends are in my thoughts today. What a year, y'all. What a year.Charlotte's Web Thoughts is a reader-supported publication. Hello beautiful plants and people! Please join us for a deep dive discussion of the 1978 incarnation of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Relevant? Yes. To YOUR life? Yes. This film holds its own oh so many decades later, even when compared to the frightfully lovely original 1956 film adaptation of the book. It is about losing your power, agency, and identity in a world gone mad. Sure there is an alien invasion and a resident expert, and a pop psychologist villain (played by a smooth 70s Leonard Nimoy); and yes, a fetching Brooke Adams as the capable botanist, and Donald Sutherland as a dishy Health inspector...but there are layers and layers here. Please join us for some deep thoughts and deep laughter. Bonus: here's a link for the 1956 original on Internet Archives - a wonderful and FREE resource you should know about ! Dana and Tom with returning guest, Adam Vanderwerff, discuss M*A*S*H (1970): directed by Robert Altman, written by Ring Lardner, Jr., music by Johnny Mandel, starring Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Tom Skerritt, and Robert Duvall.Plot Summary: M*A*S*H is a sharp, irreverent satire that reimagines the war film as a chaotic and darkly comedic theater of absurdity. Set in a mobile army surgical hospital during the Korean War, the film follows the misadventures of surgeons Hawkeye Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and Trapper John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), whose antics clash with the rigid military hierarchy. The film's freewheeling ensemble style captures the camaraderie and anarchy of a unit forced to find humor amidst the horrors of war. With its anti-authoritarian ethos and whip-smart dialogue, the film critiques the machinery of war and conformity without sermonizing. The overlapping conversations, naturalistic performances, and subversive tone make M*A*S*H both a product of its era and a timeless commentary on the absurdities of human conflict.Guest:Adam Vanderwerff (Duncan Disability Law)Previous Episodes: Office Space (1999), Ghostbusters (1984)Chapters:00:00 Introduction to MASH and Its Legacy03:56 Relationship(s) with M*A*S*H08:02 What is M*A*S*H About?12:42 Cultural Impact of M*A*S*H18:57 Impact of First F-Bomb in Cinema History?21:09 Plot Summary for M*A*S*H22:22 Did You Know?24:51 First Break26:22 Best Performance(s)32:50 Best/Favorite/Indelible Scene(s)38:43 Second Break39:53 In Memoriam42:08 Best/Funniest Lines43:47 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy48:19 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance49:01 The Stanley Rubric - Novelty52:57 The Stanley Rubric - Classicness58:57 The Stanley Rubric - Rewatchability01:01:59 The Stanley Rubric - Audience Score and Final Total01:03:12 Remaining Questions for M*A*S*H01:10:45 Thank You to Our Guest and Final Thoughts01:15:42 CreditsYou can also find this episode in full video on YouTube. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast).For more on the episode, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/m-a-s-h-1970-ft-adam-vanderwerffFor the entire rankings list so far, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/greatest-movie-of-all-time-listKeywords:MASH, film analysis, cultural impact, legacy, comedy, war film, character performances, podcast, movie review, Donald Sutherland, Robert Altman, Robert Duvall, Elliot Gould, Tom SkerittRonny Duncan Studios

EPISODE 71 - “STEVE & NAN's FAVORITE CLASSIC FILMS OF THE 1970s” - 1/20/2024 The 1970s was a decade that saw the rise of the auteur. Filmmakers like Scorsese, Coppola, Cassavetes, Altman, Lumet, and DePalma hit their stride and brought to the screen their specific vision and stylized films. From cult classics to indie pics, from summer Blockbusters to historical masterpieces and through genres including War Movies, Sci-fi, Comedy, Thrillers and Horrors this list includes the work of an eclectic mix of filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Spike Jonz, Christopher Nolan, Robert Altman, Paul Verhovan, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, The Coen Brothers and stars such as Robert DeNiro, Donald Sutherland, Mel Gibson, Dustin Hoffman, Nicolas Cage, Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, and many many more.Well, all these years later, I am going to listen to this list, and reflect upon whether this list still holds up today, which cinematic entries would I change and which more modern movies would make the list if I was to make one today. The list is a time capsule for me, yet will it make me proud or make me cringe? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Welcome to another episode of Hit Rewind, where Michael and Kersey take you on a cinematic journey through the 1960s, exploring films that defy chronological order and conventional storytelling. This episode is packed with candid discussions, spicy takes, and a deep dive into some of the most iconic films of the era. First up, the duo tackles Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Michael shares his polarizing views on Kubrick's work, discussing the technical brilliance yet emotional disconnect he feels in the film. The conversation touches on the film's groundbreaking visuals, its influence on sci-fi, and the pretentious yet captivating elements that define Kubrick's style. Next, they explore Klute, a gripping thriller featuring Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland. The episode delves into the film's complex character dynamics, its subversion of typical genre tropes, and the exceptional performances that elevate it from a mere thriller to a profound character study. The conversation shifts to Joe, a gritty, low-budget film that tackles themes of bigotry and societal division. Michael and Curzzy analyze the character of Joe, the film's depiction of class and racial tensions, and the shocking climax that leaves a lasting impact on viewers. Finally, they discuss Little Big Man, a film that offers a unique perspective on American history through the eyes of Dustin Hoffman's character. The hosts examine its portrayal of Native American culture, its satirical elements, and its role in reshaping the Western genre. Tune in for an engaging episode filled with thought-provoking discussions and a celebration of cinema's ability to challenge and entertain.
