With Max Haiven. In this special episode of Radicals in Conversation, we take a first look at the new board game, Billionaires & Guillotines, in which players take on the role of 2-5 rival plutocrats vying to grab the wealth of the world before their actions trigger a revolution where they all lose … a lot more than their assets. Chris Browne is joined on the show by Max Haiven, the game's designer, for a conversation about its origins, development and gameplay. We also discuss the ways in which board games can play an important role in political education, and provide a much-needed space for connection and conviviality. Unlock the secrets of strategic global investments with our special guest, Chris Browne, the Chief Investment Officer at Democracy Investments. Discover how democracy can shape investment strategies as Chris walks us through his innovative use of the Economist Democracy Index. This approach favors investing in democratic nations like Norway and Japan while underweighting authoritarian regimes such as China and Russia. We explore how this strategy affects industry allocations, like the shift from consumer discretionary to materials, and the reallocation of energy investments from the Middle East to more democratic regions, reflecting on past economic eras to understand today's complex market dynamics. In a world dominated by tech giants, navigating market shifts and geopolitical challenges can be daunting. We analyze how the current geopolitical landscape, including China's economic struggles, impacts global markets and how this creates opportunities, especially in regions like the Eurozone. Chris sheds light on the potential diversification benefits of international investments and the relative valuation advantages they hold over the US market, even in the tech sector. Connect with Chris's insights through his active online presence and learn more about the promising landscape of democratic-leaning investment strategies as essential components of your portfolio. The content in this program is for informational purposes only. On the eve of the 50th Anniversary of the Birmingham Pub Bombing we feel now is a good time to update and release this improved audio of the time Brian and Julie came in to our studio to give their story .....21 were people killed in the bombings at the Mulberry Bush and the Tavern in the Town pubs in Birmingham, England. These bombings were carried out by the Provisional IRA, resulting in one of the deadliest attacks on British soil during The Troubles.Maxine Hambleton, the sister of Brian and Julie give their story regarding that horrendous night in Birmingham and the continued fight for justice. This campaign continues to seek justice through legal channels, public remembrance, and by ensuring the story of these victims remains in public discourse, advocating for a more thorough examination of the events by potentially holding a Section 1 public inquiry, which would look into the broader implications of the bombings, including security services' roles and the miscarriages of justice that ensued."Please note, recording is from 2014, some material may or may not be relevant at the time of 2nd release" With Paul Collins, Edited and Produced by Chris Browne for SRBMEDIAwww.srbmedia.co.ukSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/srbmedia. This is episode 1 of ‘Beyond the Ballot Box' - our new mini-series exploring some of the major political currents in US politics. With the presidential election just around the corner, American politics is increasingly a focus of international attention as well. Electoralism, reproductive justice, the climate crisis, Palestine, a resurgent far right, the criminalization of protest, and the militarization of policing are all swirling in a maelstrom that is unlikely to abate, whatever the outcome on November 5th. In this episode, series hosts Chris Browne and James Kelly sit down with Mike Wendling. Mike is US National Digital Reporter for the BBC, co-founder of the BBC's disinformation unit and the former editor and presenter of BBC Trending. Based in Chicago, he has decades of experience covering extremism, the American far right, social media and disinformation. He is also the author of Alt-Right: From 4chan to the White House and the new book, Day of Reckoning: How the Far Right Declared War on Democracy, which was published by Pluto earlier this year. We talk about how the movement known as the ‘Alt-Right' morphed over the years of the Trump presidency, in response to events such as the Covid-19 pandemic and January 6 Capitol riot. We talk about the ways in which conspiratorial thinking has bled from the fringes of the far right into the mainstream Republican movement, and the ways in which Donald Trump has reshaped the party and the wider political terrain. We get Mike's reflections on the recent Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and the extent to which the assassination attempt on Trump and the substitution of Harris for Biden on the Democratic ticket have changed the electoral calculus, less than 2 months out from the election.

Another episode in our series "Legends of the 70s"This episode is with Peter Barnes.Peter Barnes began his career as an apprentice at Manchester City in July 1972 and turned professional two years later. He made his Football League debut in October 1974, aged 17. He scored in City's 1976 League Cup final victory and was named as PFA Young Player of the Year. He played in the UEFA Cup and unsuccessful First Division title campaigns, scoring 22 goals in 151 appearances in all competitions. He became West Bromwich Albion's record buy at £748,000 in July 1979 and spent two seasons at the club, scoring 25 goals in 92 matches. Leeds United broke their club record transfer when signing him for £750,000 plus £180,000 "tariffs" in 1981. The move proved to be a poor one and, after Leeds were relegated into the Second Division, he was bought by Spanish club Real Betis for £300,000. He made 16 La Liga appearances, scoring one goal, before returning to Leeds United for the 1983–84 season.Barnes was signed by Coventry City for £65,000 in October 1984, but was dropped by the end of the 1984–85 campaign. Former West Bromwich Albion manager Ron Atkinson then signed him to Manchester United for a fee of £30,000 and a run of good form prompted speculation of a return to the international fold, before he suffered a calf injury in November 1985. He was sold to former club Manchester City for £20,000 in January 1987,With Paul Collinsedited by Chris Browne for SRBMediawww.srbmedia.co.ukSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/srbmedia. Large international index funds do not account for geopolitical risk. Corruption has costs, and in this age of conflict with rising tensions in the Middle East, Russia, Ukraine and elsewhere, investors are faced with a daunting landscape while US markets are near highs. Should investors ride the momentum or transition and rotate to sectors that represent greater value and higher forward expected returns? The traditional international funds are attractively valued relative to the US but are fraught with risk. Today we will hear from Julie Cane and Chris Browne from Democracy Investments to discuss democracy as a factor in international investing. Lior Asulin was a star player on a soccer team that was once a powerful symbol of peace and unity in Israel -- a team where Jews and Arabs played side by side. In 2004, he led the team on a miraculous run to the final of the Israeli State Cup, endearing himself to Arab fans, and further lifting the team's message of unity. Nearly twenty years later, he was brutally murdered by Hamas in the October 7th attacks.
