Send us a textTogether, Sky Kelsey and Marty Smith serve as founding members of the traditional Irish band The Safehouse. Kelsey and Smith have been the consistent leading members of the group and have played together for many years.During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, they honed their sound as a duo for the first time. Kelsey and his then-girlfriend (now-wife) stayed with Smith for a few months, and they locked in completely on finding a sound together.Since then, they've switched between performing with a band lineup in The Safehouse and as a duo group. Both projects focus on playing traditional Irish music.Smith grew up in Wyoming while Kelsey grew up in Alaska. Neither environment is known for its vibrant Irish music scene. However, both individuals found Irish music in their communities.In particular, Kelsey embraced the music developed in southern Ireland's County Clare. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, a native County Clare band, The Ceili Bandits, brought much of the county's traditional music to Alaska. Completely captivated by Clare music, he embraced Ireland's oral tradition. He started learning fiddle from age twelve under the mentorship of James Kelly, who Kelsey cites as his biggest influence. By the time Kelsey was old enough to gig in bars, Clare music had been well established in his community, so he completely embraced the music and started learning music from across Ireland.Meanwhile, growing up with folk music, Smith has performed in countless groups even outside of The Safehouse. These groups include Avourneen, their spinoff duo Smithstein, and Coisir.Smith started by playing dance tunes from the British Isles on the hammered dulcimer, and he now primarily focuses on playing the Irish bouzouki and singing. He's been mentored by bouzouki teachers such as Andy Irvine, Aaron Jones, and Roger Landes. We discussed what REALLY happened on December 12th, 2023 and how the use of recordings and transparency is desperately needed in the, "family courts."   We also discussed how there was a change in Tracy Armes case when her Paralegal and ADA Advocate, James Kelly was jailed five minutes into the hearing for wanting to record. The other issue is the Guardian Ad Litem, Karyn Villar, nor Judge Alfred Graf care that Tracy's child has missed 96 days of school AND she has insurmountable EVIDENCE OF SPOUSAL/CHILD ABU$E. THEY JUST DON'T CARE.   Stacey Sonnelitter explains, "How can maintaining a transcript in all fairness to all parties be a crime when it is in all fairness? It is important to know that this is not a misogyny or misandry thing. The court looks at your financial portfolio, your political affiliations and how it benefits the court and is there a way to exploit you for money to maximize the Title IV-D Funding to the state, BECAUSE they WORK FOR THE STATE. That's why transparency is important. There are political ties. This isn't MEN against WOMEN, it is a MONEY issue. If you pit men AGAINST women, you are HELPING the courts. STOP."     Tracy states that, "Any Advocate is part of the problem and not the solution by putting salt to the victim's wound by financially draining them."     James also adds, "The work needs to be done. I am going to get louder and seek more support from legislators to put pressure on this problem. There has to be change: I want the Transcript Integrity Act. The judges are the personification of the state and they cannot give an impartial tribunal because of the federal INCENTIVE grant money for the collection of CHILD SUPPORT. Everybody's DUE PROCESS RIGHTS have been deprived across the board, because the state of NY wants to collect a half - billion dollars a year or more from the federal government.    Slam the Gavel welcomes back Alisha Clark Walker to the podcast. Alisha was last on the podcast Season 4, Episodes 65 and 102. Yesterday, 12-12-2023 in Suffolk County Family Court, NY state, while in a custody hearing our friend, ADA Advocate and Paralegal, James Kelly, was held in Contempt WITHOUT bail by Judge Alfred Graf. Judge Graf then  sentenced James Kelly to 30 days in JAIL for recording a case where he was an ADA Advocate for a mother who has suffered Domestic Violence. This happened within the first five minutes into the hearing. He was then arrested, placed in cuffs and taken to JAIL.    This has been the third Contempt without bail INCARCERATION in the last month. Alisha explained that less than 1% of complaints are entertained at the COMMISSION ON JUDICIAL CONDUCT. These COMPLAINTS are SEALED as well, so what is the CJC in NY HIDING? The complaints FALL ON DEAF EARS. They don't like ADA Advocates.     Apparently Judge Alfred Graf has a reputation for Judicial abuse and tyranny. Walk Among Heroes is pleased to welcome James Kelly as our guest for episode 39.James Kelly landed in a glider on D Day, June 6, 1944, near the village of Ranville with the 1st (Airborne) Royal Ulster Rifles, on the eastern flank of the main landing front.  The Royal Ulster Rifles' mission was to capture the bridges over the Caen Canal and the River Oren and to seal the eastern flank, thus protecting the main invasion from any possible counter attacks by German armored divisions. The famous Pegasus Bridge mission was part of this operation.  Mr. Kelly was one of the first Allied soldiers to land in France, landing just after midnight on D-Day, June 6, 1944.  After the Normandy battles, his battalion fought in the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944 and then the Rhine Crossings....and on into Germany.Mr. Kelly will be traveling with us all week throughout Normandy, so lots more to come!
