The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. From the Supreme Court to Project 2025, reactionary Catholics are on the frontlines of this year's war on democracy. Many of them bend the knee to an Italian redpilled Vatican diplomat: Cardinal Carlo Maria Viganò.  Who is this guy, and who let him onto the internet? In 2018, Viganò rebranded Pizzagate for Catholics, by accusing Pope Francis and his progressive allies of supporting “homosexual networks, which are now widespread in many dioceses, seminaries, religious orders,” and “act under the concealment of secrecy and lies with the power of octopus tentacles, and strangle innocent victims and priestly vocations.”  Viganò went on to pen an open letter to Trump—in the style of one spiritual leader to another—in which he spoke of the great war between the “children of light and the children of darkness.” His 19th century flair, boosted by Trump himself, was such a hit it got featured in a Qdrop, got echoed by Mike Flynn, and won him an invite into the world of Steve Bannon.  Catholic political commentator Dr. David Lafferty has been following Viganò for years. He walks Matthew through how the Cardinal Catholicized MAGA fever dreams to discredit the progressive administration of Pope Francis—going so far as to wish death upon him—while inspiring a generation of TradCath crusaders. Episode 041 - Trust Your Instinct About the Church - Interview with Fr. Kenneth Tanner. After everything that's happened in the past year, are you wondering about whether there's a place for you in the church? Are you asking questions like "Where do I fit? What I'm seeing around me doesn't look like Jesus. What do I do? I love Jesus. I want to follow Jesus, but if these other Christians are any indication, I don't even know if I'm Christian anymore." Have you had those thoughts? Well, I can tell you from my own experience, and stacks of emails in my inbox, that you are not alone. In this interview with Father Kenneth Tanner, we'll talk about steps you can take. Show Notes What should we say to people asking these questions?"Yes. This doesn't look good.""You are not alone.""If you're alarmed by what you see in the church in America, you have good spiritual intuition." How do we fix this problem of feeling alienated?Admit we have a problem. Our Christian movements and leaders have to admit there is a problem if we want to fix it.Face our amnesia. Most of us have no attachment to the history of Christianity, and some of us have forgotten the testimony of folks who encountered Jesus throughout history. (Not just Biblical history) The historical church in Africa, Asia Minor, and Ireland for instance have much to teach us. If we forget our history, we won't really know our identity.Listen to the words of our Lord in Matthew 25. Instead of looking to the institution, go to the margins. Jesus says that He will meet us there among the poor, the sick, the hungry, and those who are oppressed. By talking with, being in relationship with, we will be changed and encounter Jesus. Historically, Christians were the most impactful when they went to the margins and served people. This is where we're off track, trying to amass influence and power for our team.We need the grand reorientation of our minds and hearts to begin to see the world and other human beings the way the Human God does. And then Fr. Tanner just started preaching the gospel. Here's some quotes: “God loves the world. God made the world in love. It's because God loves the world that he doesn't seek to escape the world. He enters the world. He decided to become human, forever identifying himself with every human person.” - Fr. Kenneth Tanner. “Christians must fundamentally begin with the revelation of God that we have in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the one who reveals the Father.” - Fr. Kenneth Tanner. “Jesus always only brings life. He never brings death. He only always brings healing and not disease. He only always brings liberty and not oppression.” - Fr. Kenneth Tanner. “We only come to the point where realize we're ready to embrace the judgement of God when we understand his character. Perfect love casts out all fear.”  - Fr. Kenneth Tanner. Where can we find hope? By looking to the broader tradition of Christian history. Listen to faithful Christians from every tradition. In order to see the full picture of Jesus, we must listen to the broad range of traditions—particularly the Christian East of the first 800 years of Christianity. And much more including thoughts on God's wrath & Judgement, cancel culture, spiritual intuition, the controversies around how to respond to COVID-19 You can also watch and share the video version on Youtube. Oh my, goodness! Last week, I shared my story about a year-long battle with depression as well as a powerful podcast interview with my friend, Melissa Maimone.  Boy, did I hear from you! I've gotten more notes and messages about this podcast than any other. One woman shared that God used our discussion to confirm that she needed to talk to her doctor about depression. Praise God! Depression is a medical condition that can make us feel alone, fearful and hopeless. At its worst, depression can make us feel that we're too broken or damaged to be loved. Even by God. God loves you just the way that you are. There is nothing that you can do to change His opinion about you.    Christians are uncomfortable with depression. By refusing the recognize depression as a medical issue, Christians often downplay, even dismisses its devastating impact on families, our careers and our health. Too often, Christians feel ashamed about being depressed or they're shamed by others who tell them to pray harder or think more positively. In this week's Better Together episode, Melissa and I tackled depression, God and faith. For years, Melissa felt like she'd disappointed God, which totally wasn't true! She speaks to us in a powerful way about a compassionate God who loves us as we are and gives us the strength that we need. Melissa discovered that depression doesn't mean that she's sentenced to a life of unhappiness. Friends, Melissa is one of the most radiant people that I know! If you've been dealing with depression or you secretly wonder if you are depressed, I hope that you'll listen to this week's podcast. Also, check out the resource links provided below. You can take a quick screening quiz to find out if you should talk to your doctor about depression. I'm also sharing some other resources that will equip and encourage you.   RESOURCES FOR YOU! Is prophecy today simply fortune telling or something else?  Jeff, Mona and Allen discuss this deceptively layered topic.  Much of the time the rhetoric around prophecy, or the prophetic, or even the hebrew prophets themselves seems so otherworldly.  Saturated with mysticism and the divine.  Perhaps there is more.  And that although all that is true, there is another dimension to the tradition of the prophetic.  A practical one.  One deeply connected to the real life details and systems we all encounter on a regular basis.  And finally in an attempt to divine the thoughts of our co-hosts we play another round of Title Me This.   Prophecy Today Conversation (00:38) Title Me This Segment (56:53)   RELEVANT LINKS From our Conversation on Prophecy Today The Prophetic Imagination by Walter Brueggemann (Book - Amazon Affiliate Link) Development of Trinitarian theology (Theopedia Article) Prophetic Thought in Postmodern Times by Cornel West (Book - Amazon Affiliate Link) Biblical Prophecy: Perspectives for Christian Theology, Discipleship, and Ministry by Ellen F.
