We are very lucky today to hear from Guest Speaker; Dave Adamson (@aussiedave), as he shares that reading the Bible is complicated. 11% of Adult Christians read the Bible daily (Statista) and 47% of Christian teens have never read the Bible (ACC). So what can we do to fix this? It starts with our daily decisions that will determine our spiritual direction. Dave shares a beautiful encouragement that it can be easy to do, and that "one verse today beats good intentions tomorrow." Navigating Social Media with Your Kids [feat. Dave Adamson]Love it or hate it, social media is a part of our culture, churches, and, frankly, our everyday lives. And as parents, social media can be a point of tension with our kids. Should they use it? And if so, when? Is it as dangerous as it's perceived to be, or could social media be used positively by us and our kids? Today, joining Pastor Joe all the way from Australia is author and Pastor Dave Adamson to talk to us about how to navigate social media with our kids and how it can be used as a tool to help point our kids to Jesus.Resources: Meta Church feat. After a quick chat about Gladiators, Stu, Tim and Joel dive into a X thread by Dave Adamson. What follows is a wide-ranging discussion on church, culture and their impact on church leaders. Is Australian society antagonistic towards Christianity with it obviously being in the minority now? Does the reduction of the original sacred canopy to an umbrella and continued secularisation mean that pastors are becoming burnt out having to spend an inordinate amount of time convincing Christians to come to church? The response falls amongst Andy Crouch's work which says that Christians can condemn, critique, copy or consume culture. Whether you listen to The Link in your car via podcast or in your living room on YouTube, it's an online forum. Today online is where the next generation [and many of us now] engages with the world around us. It's where we find answers to our questions, a place to talk about tough and relevant topics. So, how can we engage this area with the Gospel? On this episode of The Link, Pastor Chris sits down in the studio - all the way from Australia - with author and pastor Dave Adamson to discuss how we can leverage the digital space to help bring the Gospel to those outside of our church walls. We all became family the same way--by the grace and mercy of God (Eph 2)We've all been prayed for by Jesus to do good works in unity (John 17)Good works out of love (Mark 12:28-34) "Great Commandment"Love God, love people - It's over our front doors for all to seeWhat's the best way to do that?Great CommissionGo and make disciples...(Matt 28:18-20)Bullseye--fruitfulness (John 15:16)How does our local church fit into all of this? Our church exists to help each of us become the best neighbors ever where we live, work, learn and play so that every man, woman and child in those places has multiple opportunities to hear, see and respond to the good news. This is our good work. This is where it happens. Our church does this in two ways:We equip each other to do this where we live, work, learn and play.We model this by doing some of this together, even as we teach the what, how and why.Examples:The Shirzads: We helped Lutheran Services "Welcome" a refugee family a year and a half ago. We housed themWe fed themWe helped them get their legal benefitsWe taught them ESLWe helped them get drivers licenses and a jobWe became friends. This was probably too big for any one family in our church to do. But together we were able to do it. This not only showed us how to do it, but it equipped us to know how to do it better. Not to mention the joy it was to do. Gloo: We trained a team of people to respond to requests for prayer online. Team members prayed for these requests and in some cases began conversations that led to in-person encounters. Because most of these are now people from the Charleston area, we were also able to invite some to worship with us. As a result, some took us up on it and are reconnecting to the Lord through our local church. Our people were already praying for others in person and online. But we expanded that to people we've never met. As a church, we still do this. But each of us can pray for someone online that we have never met. We could pray for 1 person a day online simply by interacting through social media. As a result of the praying for hundreds online for the past 3 years, we will start our first online bible study dedicated to them Sunday night at 6:30. Homeless: We helped a young, unmarried couple that was homeless and living out of their car along with their puppy. We helped them with a campsite at the KOA, get food and car repairs, and map out a plan to move forward. He has a better job now than he did. One of our families gave the puppy a good home relieving them of the burden of caring for it. And they are doing well.We have multiple families who have or are fostering caring for children. We have multiple families who have adopted children from this country and from others. These children have a much brighter future than they did. Why did God create us? To do good works. What good works? The ones he created in advance for us to do? The ones that lead people from death to life through Christ Jesus.Am I doing this? Am I doing what God created me to do? On purpose for a purpose? One of the responsibilities of your church leaders is to discern how to equip, encourage, and empower our church to do good works--individually, as families and as a church family. These conversations are always happening. What's next for Grace? Here are some things that we are currently zeroing in on:Praying like it all depends on God. (Starting tonight at 6:30)Starting more Friends & Family groups next spring."Welcoming" another refugee family. But this time through World Relief.Unofficially "adopting" a mom-to-be who elected to keep her baby instead of aborting. We would pick up where the pregnancy center leaves off. We would help needy moms who choose this practically for up to a year.We want to double-down on knowing and loving our 8 closest neighbors by name; prayer-care-shareWe want to do identify a circle of influence similar to that around our church campus in Ladson. This means we'd identify a 1-5 mile radius and would take responsibility for lostness in that area. Our mission to that area would be to saturate it with the good news so that every man, woman, and child would have multiple opportunities to hear, see and respond to the gospel. This would be accomplished in many ways including:Local ministry projects in the schools; especially tutoring grades 1-3 to read and do math wellESL in homes and/or in our buildingPrayer walking neighborhoodsServing local businessesSharing the good news in neighborhoods and public spacesLooking for ways to bless the poorChampioning life at all stagesWorking towards racial reconciliationTeaching a biblical sexual ethicBeing peacemakersSports ministryCSU/college ministryWe will continue to encourage and help families foster children. We will continue to encourage and help families adopt children.Continue to champion biblical literacy and training up our children and adults in disciple-making. Discipleship Pathways are in our future.Invest in strengthening marriages in and outside of the church through conferences, sermons, and mentoring couplesWe will continue to flesh out the great commission around the corner and around the world focusing on places like Uganda, Pakistan & Curacao; upcoming trips to both on the horizonWe will continue to reach out to the Charleston area through our online tools as well. The Charleston area will top 1 million people by 2030.Why did God create us? To do good works. I call them God-works. This is an increase from around 42% in 2020-2021 and 45% in 2018-2019.The SC READY assessment is used to measure student progress in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics in grades 3-8. The ELA assessment includes a reading comprehension subtest, which assesses students' ability to understand and analyze text. The percentage of third graders passing the reading comprehension test has been increasing in recent years, which is a positive sign for education in South Carolina. However, there is still room for improvement, as nearly half of third graders are still not meeting expectations. The South Carolina Department of Education is committed to helping all students succeed in reading. The Read to Succeed program provides additional support to struggling readers, and the state is working to improve early literacy instruction. In Dorchester County?According to the South Carolina Department of Education, 48% of third graders passed the reading comprehension test in Dorchester County in 2022. This is slightly lower than the state average of 47%.The Read to Succeed program is also available in Berkeley County, but the district is still working to improve early literacy instruction. These efforts are likely contributing to the success of third graders in the county, but more work is needed to ensure that all students are meeting expectations.MoreThe reading score goals for South Carolina schools are outlined in the South Carolina State Reading Plan. The goal is to have all students reading on grade level by the end of third grade. To achieve this goal, the state has set a number of sub-goals, including:Reduce the percentage of students scoring at the lowest achievement level on the SC READY reading assessment by 50% by 2025.Increase the percentage of students scoring at the highest achievement level on the SC READY reading assessment by 25% by 2025.Ensure that all students have access to high-quality reading instruction. The state is working to achieve these goals through a variety of initiatives, including:Providing additional support to struggling readers in the early grades.Investing in professional development for teachers on effective reading instruction.Developing and implementing a rigorous reading curriculum.Working with families to support their child's reading development. The state has made some progress towards its reading score goals in recent years. For example, the percentage of third graders passing the SC READY reading assessment has increased from 42% in 2020-2021 to 47% in 2021-2022. However, there is still room for improvement. The state is committed to achieving its reading score goals and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. By working together, the state, schools, families, and communities can make sure that all students become strong readers.MAIN REFERENCES USED“Preaching the Word” Commentary, Douglas Sean O'Donnell, Edited by Kent Hughes“Matthew” by RC Sproul“The Bible Knowledge Commentary” by Walvoord, Zuck (BKC)“The Bible Exposition Commentary” by Warren Wiersbe (BEC)“Exalting Jesus in Matthew” by David Platt (CCE)Outline Bible, D Willmington NIV Study Bible (NIVSB) https://www.biblica.com/resources/scholar-notes/niv-study-bible/ESV Study Bible (ESVSB) https://www.esv.org“The Visual Word,” Pat Schreiner“The Bible in One Year 2023 with Nicky Gumbel” bible reading plan on YouVersion appChatGPT https://openai.com/blog/chatgptAnswerThePublic.comWikipedia.com

Your family, friends, coworkers and even the barista at Starbucks - they are all judging your behavior. If you consider yourself a Christian, then everything you do, every word and action, every social media post, the way you respond to people, your attitude, even the way you drive reflects upon Jesus. You tell people about your faith based on how you live. So, our goal as Christians is to be irresistible! You might be criticized for what you believe, but loved for your compassion and generosity. It's time to do everything in our power to make people who feel far from God, feel welcome in the church. In this special message, guest speaker Dave Adamson, author of “MetaChurch: How to Use Digital Ministry to Reach People and Make Disciples,” explains how our friends and neighbors experience Jesus in YOU and everything you do. Watch this message from Liquid Church and discover how to let people know that Jesus is everything we say He is… by being everything He says we are! Is church online just about broadcasting your service? This is a milestone interview where Dave Adamson concedes to Kenny Jahng on a years-old academic argument regarding church online service programming -- Dave finally suggests that churches should STOP streaming their music worship portions of the service ... WHY? Listen to this episode as Dave and Kenny unpack that position. Also, the church online veterans discuss what smaller churches can do if they don't have the resources to stream Sunday services. Today, Kenny Jahng sits down with Dave Adamson, author of the new book Megachurch: How to Use Digital Ministry to Reach People and Make Disciples. We speak with diver and author Dave Adamson as he talks about diving in the UK. We had a great time talking with him in another international episode. Dave talks about his book, Taking the Tide Where it Serves. About the author, from his bio, “ I was born and brought up in villages near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, an area he still calls home. I was educated in a village primary school where I failed the 11+ examination and moved to a secondary school, where he gained just enough qualifications to enter an apprenticeship in Engineering, before quitting that secure world to follow my love of the underwater environment into a lifetime at sea. I worked my way from diver's helper to eventually offshore manager of large oilfield construction projects worldwide. I married my first, and only love, Marion and we remain happily together until this day, in the home we built ourselves in rural North Yorkshire. My first and probably only book is my autobiography which tells the story of a life which I feel is sufficiently different to warrant a book. and It hopefully also gives hope to anyone who thinks the lack of a university degree somehow condemns them to a humdrum life. Apart from an interesting and exciting carreer in the offshore oilfields we have travelled extensivly and exsperienced many adventures. My hobbies include sea kayaking, which I am an advanced Sea kayak leader in and a Level 3 coach, angling, skiing and walking. I still uses some of the skills learned in apprenticeship to turn out all kinds of projects from my home workshop. The idea to write about my experience was simply for personal gratification and fill some time during the Coronavirus lockdown. But as it evolved so did the idea to publish the book. As it turns out it one of my proudest achievements.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebottomdwellersds/message

The definition of a Biblical "gathering" today has expanded. We are going to look at the Biblical definition of gathering, also called worship, and see how (or if) it can be applied to online and digital spaces! Hebrews 10:25 has been the primary Scripture that many have used to push back against church online. Meanwhile, many churches are forced to respond to the realities of the pandemic. Now on the backend of the pandemic, churches are faced with a decision: how do we go forward with the digital expression of the church now that people are starting to come back? They have responded one of three ways: 1) Go back to prioritizing in-person and simply streaming services to FB/YT, 2) Going all-in with a hybrid approach to in-person and online services, or 3) going back to prioritizing in-person services while attempting an online strategy with no extra resources, manpower, or attention from leadership. Our Guest today is no stranger to the controversy surrounding the issue of what the future of the online church may look like. After being published in an article by a major news network, the passion of all sides of the issue came out in the comments! It's been a long journey for Dave Adamson to today, as we near the release of his forthcoming book on the subject called Discipleclick: How to use digital ministry to reach people and make disciples. I highlighted 10 attributes everyone can act on and expanded some thoughts of how they can influence leadership. 10 things require ZERO talent: 1. Being on time. 2. Working Hard. 3. Putting in effort. 4. Being optimistic. 5. Being Caring. 6. Being a learner or teachable. 7. Being prepared. 8. One more step. 9. Encourage. 10. Being kind. After looking back where I found these items from I traced it back from a post of Dave Adamson. Dave is a photographer and a social media influencer who lives in Australia. In the unique and challenging world of a global pandemic, the resilience of local services and businesses has been critical to maintaining successful operations for response organisations, providers of essential local services, and critical infrastructure. Dave Adamson (also known as @aussiedave) is a speaker, author, photographer, Church consultant and, since 2008, an online pastor. Dave's unique journey to online pastoring is an especially important story to hear in light of the Church's changing relationship with the digital world today. Dave imparts great wisdom around changing old ways of thinking, and how the church can harness online platforms to reach people.
What I love about social media is that every year I discover new people that I learn from and follow. Then, what I like to do is to share them with you all. In fact, I take 6 people or groups and highlight them once a year, usually at the end of December or early January. To find out my lists from previous years you can just like the year (2016, 2017 2018, 2019 and 2020). While 2020 was challenging, the reality is, if you were following any of the digital ministers I have shared about in the past, like Ben Stapley, Dave Adamson, Jeff Reed, Katie Allred, Jeanette Yates, Seth Muse, just to name a few, you would have gotten a lot of great encouragement and help in 2020, especially with the onslaught of COVID. The criteria that I have is that they are involved in Church Communications, Social Media, Student or Family Ministry or Online Ministry. They also need to be producing great blogs, vlogs or podcasts on a consistent basis. If they do not post regularly, they aren't one the list. I am not going recommend you follow someone if they aren't being consistent in their postings, no matter how great their content is. And that's it. Here are the top 6 to seek out in 2021: Rey De Armas. I met Rey a few years ago from a mutual friend, Jeff Reed. Rey is the Online Pastor at Christ Fellowship in Miami, Florida. He is passionate about people coming to know Jesus and mobilizing others to minister to their friends and family (I have had him on the podcast before talking about this). Tyler Samson. Tyler is the Lead Pastor at Church Anywhere. He is also an Admin for the Online + Digital Church Leaders Facebook Group. The group is designed for Online and Digital Minsters looking to learn from each other. It's a great group with tons of help. Digivangelism. I first discovered Digivangelism on TikTok in 2020. Their goal is to help “church leaders reach people with the love of Jesus ONLINE”. And, they do just that. What I really appreciate about what they do is that they are very active on TikTok which not a ton of minsters are at the moment. Brianne Fleming. She may not be a minister but she is someone who has so much great content about brands and marketing. She hosts a very popular #PopChat on Twitter every Friday and Making the Brand podcast. Jate Earhart. Jate is extremely gifted in digital media and motion graphics. He uses Twitch to stream and chat with people while he plays. D.J. Soto. D.J. is the first person people go to for VR Church questions and thoughts. He is the Bishop of Virtual Reality Church.
Christopher and Maggie are spiritual directors that like talking about spiritual things.
