December 19, 1959. Osprey, Florida. After spending the day running errands and visiting a family friend, 25-year old Cliff Walker, his 24-year old wife Christine, and their two children, three-year old Jimmie and 23-month old Debbie, head back to their rural home in separate vehicles. The following morning, the family's bodies are discovered inside their house. They were each shot in the head before Debbie was drowned in the bathtub and Christine has also been sexually assaulted. Over the next several decades, investigators would look at a number of different suspects, but two of the most promising turn out to be Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, who were responsible for the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas one month earlier, a crime which became the subject of the iconic book, “In Cold Blood”. However, DNA testing on the deceased killers turns out to be inconclusive and there is no evidence to conclusively implicate anyone. This week's episode of “The Path Went Chilly” covers the harrowing murders of an entire family which have remained unsolved for 65 years. It's our first anniversary! And what a year it's been. Way WAY too many Lege sessions, the Democratic quorum break, unprecedented and unlimited ugly from the Texas GOP. And, a LOT of Truly down the hatch. Reviewing our first year, it's pretty amazing what we've endured - and it's also starkly clear that we've still got a long way to go - so, THANK YOU for being part of the family. Meanwhile - we have a primary election to unpack. What were we surprised about, what are we excited about, and what are the challenges ahead in May and November? We're lucky to have Cliff Walker of progressive, Black and Brown-owned communications and advocacy firm Seeker Strategies to contribute his take - including the fact that Republican voter suppression appears to be working just as designed in Texas, contrasted with the huge and growing buzz for Beto O'Rourke!

Walker recently ran a marathon in full fireman gear and oxygen tank to break the Guinness Book of World Records. He also runs in the gear to promote firefighter fitness, health, and wellness, noting that cardiac arrest is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths among firefighters. “I’m honored to be selected as a Nuvision Credit Union first responder story to share,” said Walker. “I like to do difficult things and push the limits in fitness and in work to show people no matter how bad it gets; you can push through it.” In 2017, Walker ran in full gear one marathon a month to raise money for fellow firefighter’s son who was four years old and fighting stage four brain cancer. Walker is a former Navy veteran and serves at the Seal Beach Federal fire department. He is planning on making an announcement soon about running the state of California to raise more money for charity.
