The WorldView in 5 Minutes

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2025 10:20

It's Thursday, June 12th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Escalating persecution of Christians in Africa International Christian Concern released a new report on the escalating persecution of Christians in Africa.  Targeted attacks are increasing in countries with large Christian populations like Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kenya.  The report documented attacks that have killed hundreds of Christians in Africa this year. These attacks not only involve brutal killings, but also abductions and displacement. They are often perpetrated by Islamic militant groups.  Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Africa.  Conservatives arrested for protesting transgenderism Belgian police arrested two conservative activists last Thursday in Brussels, Belgium for protesting transgenderism. Lois Miller, a Senior Legal Communications Officer with Alliance Defending Freedom International, was holding a sign that read: “Children are never born in the wrong body.” And Canadian child protection advocate Chris Elston was holding a sign that read: “Children cannot consent to puberty blockers.”  The two activists called the police after facing aggressive harassment from bystanders. However, the police decided to arrest Miller and Elston! Listen to comments from Miller. MILLER: “They saw that a mob was formed. They saw that we were in the minority, that we were the ones that were being attacked. And instead of standing up for our rights to have those conversations about really important topics to Belgians everywhere, instead they took us away and they let the mob go free.” Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.” Progress in U.S.-Chinese trade talks U.S. President Donald Trump announced a preliminary trade deal with China yesterday. Trump said China will provide rare earth minerals and magnets to America and that the U.S. would restart Chinese student visas.  U.S. tariffs on imports from China stand at 55 percent, while Chinese tariffs on imports from the U.S. stand at 10 percent. Total tariffs between the two countries reached 245 percent before trade talks began. Congress might repeal pro-abortion Freedom of Access to Clinics Entrances Act The U.S. House Judiciary Committee advanced a bill this week to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act also known as the FACE Act. The Biden administration used the act to target peaceful, pro-life activists. Between 1994 and 2024, 97 percent of FACE Act prosecutions were against pro-lifers.  Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas said, “With a Republican-led Congress and President Trump's support, we can repeal this law and protect free speech for all.” Clarification on religious groups story from yesterday We apologize for any confusion from our story yesterday about the growth of religious groups around the world. To clarify, the total number of Christians did increase from 2.1 billion to 2.3 billion between 2010 and 2020. However, as a percentage of the world's population, Christianity actually decreased from 30.6 percent to 28.8 percent over the same time period. You see, even though the number of Christians grew over that decade, it did not grow fast enough to keep up with global population growth, especially the fertility rate of Muslims, and thus Christians decreased as a percentage of the world's population. Religious instruction under public school umbrella Public school students in Iowa can now take courses in religious instruction. Iowan Republican Governor Kim Reynolds signed the bill into law last Friday. The measure allows parents to send their children to religious instruction provided by a private group during the school day. Greg Chafuen, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, said, “Parents have the right and responsibility to guide the upbringing and education of their children. The government should not stop families from raising their children in their family's faith.” Southern Baptists call for overturn of Obergefell homosexual marriage ruling The Southern Baptist Convention adopted multiple resolutions this week on the topics of marriage, sexuality, and human life. One resolution called for the overturning of the U.S. Supreme Court's Obergefell v. Hodges ruling which legalized faux homosexual marriage. Another resolution called for Congress and state legislatures to ban chemical abortion drugs. And a third resolution called for the banning of pornographic content.  Representatives to the Southern Baptist Convention urged, “all Southern Baptists to advocate in the public square for laws and policies that reflect the moral order revealed in Scripture and nature, and to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which alone restores broken lives, redeems sin, and brings eternal hope.” Psalm 119:46 says, “I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.” Worldview listeners in England, Canada and Texas share their hearts I invited Worldview listeners to share what they enjoyed about the newscast in 2-6 sentences. You can share your thoughts -- along with your  full name, city and state -- and send it to adam@theworldview.com Dan from Gloucestershire, England wrote, “Hi Adam. I love The Worldview for the information you share and how you relate a couple of your stories to the Bible with specific verses. Keep up the good work.” Priscilla Lipp in Calgary, Alberta, Canada wrote, “I enjoy getting a snippet of world news from a Christian perspective. Refreshing, with reports I won't hear on Canadian mainstream media. My husband, several grown children, and a neighboring couple have also signed up.” And Patricia Herbst – on behalf of Luis, Tricia, Natalie, Nichole, and Luciano -- in Kyle, Texas wrote, “I want to thank you for the incredible blessing your ministry has been to our family. “Through your curriculum, app, and daily broadcasts, we've been consistently enriched with wisdom, truth, and discipleship. My husband, children, and I are growing in faith because of your efforts. You are truly a gift from God, and we're so grateful for your faithfulness.” 7 Worldview listeners gave $815 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our midpoint goal of $61,750 to fund half of The Worldview newscast's annual budget by this Friday, June 13th, 7 listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to Tim in Woodland, California who gave $25 and Julie in Victoria, Texas who gave $40. We appreciate Kitty in Tulare, California, Linda in Tampa, Florida, and Daniel in Evansville, Indiana – each of whom gave $50. And we're grateful to God for Ryan in Brighton, Colorado who gave $100, Steven in Rest, South Carolina who gave $200, and Alex in Greenwood, Indiana who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300. Those 7 Worldview listeners gave a total of $815.  Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $24,565.20 (People clapping sound effect) That means we still need to raise $37,134.80 by midnight on Friday, June 13th to hit the half-way mark, to stay on the air, and fund our 6-member Worldview newscast team for another fiscal year. Remember If you are one of 8 final people who give a one-time gift of $1,000, Scooter in Naples, Florida will match you with a corresponding $1,000 gift. If that happens on Thursday, we will have raised $16,000. In order to raise the remaining amount, I need to find 17 Worldview listeners who will pledge $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. And another 32 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300. Has God placed it on your heart to be one of the Christian patriots to fund this unparalleled newscast which affirms pre-born babies, God's divine design for our sexuality, and often equips you with practical ways you can take a stand for righteousness in an evil culture? Please, we need your help right now! Go to TheWorldview.com and click on Give on the top right. Click on the button that indicates a recurring donation if you want to give monthly. Is it possible that we might double our daily donors from 20 to 40 on Thursday? Let's see what the Lord will do.  Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, June 12th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. In response to the news, President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.” 3:15pm- In an interview with Joe Nocera of The Free Press, Dr. Mark Scholz—a prostate cancer specialist—said that White House doctors either neglected to test Joe Biden for the disease, in which case they are “perhaps the most incompetent doctors on the face of the earth,” or they held the information from the public. He also suggested that its possible Biden was being treated for cancer while serving as president—noting that treatment symptoms could include an “unsteady gait, loss of muscle mass, and even loss of memory.” You can read the full article here: https://www.thefp.com/p/when-did-biden-know-he-had-cancer. 3:30pm- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump visited Capitol Hill where he spoke with Republican members of the House—imploring them to vote in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. On Sunday night, the House Budget Committee successfully advanced the Republican tax and spending bill through committee vote—with the final vote being 17-16 in favor. The bill would extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts while reforming Medicaid and other government subsidy programs. The House Rules Committee is expected to take up the legislation later this week. Congressmen Ralph Norman, Andrew Clyde, Josh Brecheen, and Chip Roy voted “present” which allowed the bill to move forward. 3:40pm- While speaking with reporters on Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump insisted there will be no changes to Medicaid or Medicare—and that the “only thing we're cutting is waste, fraud, and abuse.” 3:45pm- Jake Tapper's new book, “Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” which is critical of the Biden Administration for covering up the president's physical and cognitive decline is due to be released later this week. While Tapper is now reporting on internal stories about Biden's health decline, why did he ignore the story prior to Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election? Notably, during an interview with Lara Trump, Tapper vociferously denied Joe Biden was experiencing any sort of cognitive decline and suggested that people were merely picking on the then-president for suffering from a life-long stutter.

4:05pm- From the Oval Office, President Donald Trump—alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth—announced the development of a “Golden Dome” missile defense program. Trump estimates that the system will be fully operational by the time he leaves office. 4:30pm- Robert Peters—Senior Research Fellow for Strategic Deterrence in Heritage's Allison Center for National Security—joins The Rich Zeoli Show and offers reaction to the Trump Administration's “Golden Dome” missile defense project. It's Monday, May 19th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Catholic man brutally beaten to death On May 12th, Muslims in Pakistan, including a former police officer, tortured a Catholic laborer to death over an accusation he had stolen a cell phone, reports Morning Star News. Riyasat Masih from the Punjab Province, said that his 35-year-old brother, Kashif Masih, worked on the agricultural property of former police inspector Malik Irfan for the last three years. Before the Catholic man succumbed to his injuries, he revealed that the former police inspector ordered his seven accomplices to beat him till he confessed. Tragically, they tortured him with wooden clubs and iron bars, hitting him indiscriminately all over his body. Most brutally, they even hammered several steel nails into his legs. Riyasat, a surviving brother, said, “I cannot express the pain when I saw my younger brother's body. The bruise marks showed the brutality he had suffered at the hands of his influential employer and his goons.” Please pray that justice would be done and these Pakistani Muslims are held accountable. Exodus 20:13 says, “You shall not murder.” Mexican sailing ship crashed into Brooklyn Bridge Mexican sailors were seen dangling from a navy ship's main mast moments after the ship smashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, reports The Daily Mail. The sailors had been standing atop the Cuauhtémoc's 150-foot masts in the lead up to the ship striking the iconic structure on Saturday as part of a traditional greeting.  The massive Navy vessel, reportedly carrying nearly 300 passengers, hit the New York City bridge, triggering a colossal rescue response and leaving two dead and dozens more severely injured.   In multiple eyewitness videos, the towering masts are seen snapping and partially collapsing as they crash into the bridge's deck. Sailors perched high above are thrown into chaos, with some seen clinging to the shattered beams high up in the air. It was not clear how the ship's captain had not realized that the 150-foot height of the ship was taller than the bridge's deck which was 127 feet above the water. Urge your Congressman to vote to defund Planned Parenthood In its 2023-2024 annual report, Planned Parenthood revealed that it killed more U.S. babies than ever before, taking the lives of 402,230 boys and girls in the womb.  Even the New York Times and NPR are now acknowledging that Planned Parenthood is harmful and abusing taxpayer dollars. A grisly New York Times story from February 2025 features atrocious conditions at Planned Parenthood like botched abortions and leaking sewage. Shockingly, 5 women have died because of Planned Parenthood when they sought abortions.  Worse yet, American taxpayers were forced to fund $792 MILLION of this murderous mayhem – an increase of $100 million from the year before. With a GOP trifecta in Washington, it's time American taxpayers defunded Big Abortion! Thankfully, President Trump is committed to ending taxpayer-funded abortion.  It is the president's hope that his “big, beautiful bill” being debated in the House reconciliation process will defund Planned Parenthood. The challenge is that pro-lifers need every House Republican to pass the bill. After the bill failed to get out of the Budget Committee on Friday morning, May 16th in a 16-21 vote because some Republicans, like Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, didn't think it cut enough money from other sectors of the budget, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise claimed that the House WILL defund Planned Parenthood in a bill that would (a) get out of the Budget Committee and (b) pass the House in a floor vote this week, reports LifeNews.com. Call your Representative at 202-224-3121 and urge him or her to defund Planned Parenthood.  That's 202-224-3121. You can make that call any time of the day or night.  Please email me at Adam@TheWorldview.com to let me know you made this important call. Proverbs 24:11 says, “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter" Colorado transgender law tramples parental rights And finally, for weeks, the Colorado legislature has been debating whether or not to pass HB25-1312, the so-called “Protections for Transgender Individuals” act.  The state is especially hostile to a parent who is guilty of so-called “deadnaming” or “misgendering” their child. “Deadnaming” is calling a person, pretending to be the opposite sex, by their given birth name. And “misgendering” is when someone refers to the transgender person with pronouns which reflect their actual biological sex instead of the one they are pretending to be. This law, which sadly received majority votes in the Colorado House and Senate in early May, was just signed into law on Friday, May 16th by Colorado Democratic Governor Jared Polis, a homosexual who is in a faux marriage with his so-called husband.  Now, the courts have been empowered to literally remove children from their parents who do not affirm their child's gender confusion, especially in child custody cases. To his credit, Republican Colorado State Representative Jarvis Caldwell offered an amendment to HR 25-1312 that said public schools had to have parental consent to allow a student to change his or her name in school. Sadly, it was defeated.  Listen to his passionate plea on May 6th. CALDWELL: “I ran an amendment that said you have to have parental consent to change your name in school if you are a child, and that amendment was defeated. Now let me be clear to the members in here. “In my family, names have a meaning. There's a tradition there. I named my children. Who are any of you to tell me that my child can go to school and change their name without my even knowledge? Who are any of you to say that? “I gave them their names. I was there when they were born. I was there when they said their first words and took their first steps. I was there on their first day of school. I will be there on their last day of school. I will be there when they have children of their own, and they name their children. And God willing, my children will be by my side as I lay on my deathbed and take my last breaths on this Earth. Not a single person in this room will be. “Stop putting yourselves, the government, between us parents and our children. We are sick and tired of it. It's not about hating trans people. It's about putting yourselves in between us and our kids. That's why we have fought this bill. “We received thousands of emails, thousands of phone calls, not because thousands of people around Colorado hate trans people. It's because they're sick of the bills we're passing infringing on their rights. This perhaps may be the most egregious we've seen so far. That's why we feel this way. It is not about hate. It is about love, the love I have for my kids.” May the Lord raise up more Jarvis Caldwells, true Christian statesmen, to represent Biblical values in our legislatures. The Big Beautiful Bill is finally past the quiet phase. The behind-the-scenes negotiations have spilled into the open, and now we're in the bloodletting. Speaker Mike Johnson wants this out of the House by Memorial Day, which means committee votes need to happen, and fast. But right now, the Budget Committee is a problem. Hardliners are balking — Ralph Norman, Josh Brecheen, and Chip Roy are all leaning no. They're not satisfied with the Congressional Budget Office's timeline for a cost estimate, and they're worried the Medicaid changes could pressure red states into expanding coverage.Mike Lawler and Marjorie Taylor Greene are fighting on Twitter over SALT deductions — state and local tax breaks — and that fight is not going away. There's talk of raising the cap from $30,000 to $40,000 or adjusting the phase-out thresholds. But this is exactly why they're doing one big bill instead of multiple smaller ones. Everyone knew it was going to be painful. Nobody wanted to go through this kind of battle again and again for every policy item.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Still, I'm bullish. It's ugly right now, but that doesn't mean it's doomed. The usual sign of failure — a flood of press conferences from members declaring the bill dead — hasn't happened. Republicans aren't holding cameras. They're texting reporters. They're venting in group chats. But they're not going on record saying they'll tank Trump's agenda. That's a big difference. This isn't like other bills I've seen die. It still feels like something they're going to get through — just barely. The key players are all doing what they need to do. Trump is overseas for now, but his influence is still real. He got Johnson the speaker's gavel. He's kept this whole thing moving. When he's back, the pressure campaign ramps up. Meanwhile, JD Vance is already starting his Senate charm offensive to get reconciliation done once it clears the House. They know they'll lose a few senators, but they're planning for that. The goal is to get something — anything — through. And here's what's actually in it: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security for anyone making under $150,000. Yes, those provisions sunset in four years, but let's be honest — once they go into effect, they're not going anywhere. Nobody's going to vote to take those benefits away from working people. Republicans used to hate that logic — the “give a mouse a cookie” approach to entitlements — but now they're writing the cookies themselves. And they're going to love running on them. This bill is messy. It's jammed with contradictions. It's being held together with string and prayers. But I still think it passes. And if it does, the Trump administration gets to claim a huge legislative win — not just a headline, but real, sticky policy that people will feel in their paychecks. That's the ballgame.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:03:52 - Big Beautiful Bill Progress00:15:51 - Interview with Bill Scher00:39:39 - Update00:40:23 - Inflation00:43:36 - Supreme Court Birthright Citizenship00:45:44 - Iran Nuclear Deal, "Sort Of"00:47:57 - The News Sheriff00:53:03 - Interview with Bill Scher (con't)01:18:02 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Trump's Budget Bill Fails in GOP Revolt

(AURN News) — So much for the art of the deal. President Donald Trump's signature budget proposal — the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” — failed to advance in the House Budget Committee on Friday, after a handful of Republicans voted against it, handing the White House a major legislative defeat. The sweeping measure proposed trillions in tax cuts and new restrictions on Medicaid — including work requirements and ending eligibility for illegal immigrants. It also sought to increase funding for the military and border enforcement — priorities Trump has championed since his return to office. House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, a Texas Republican, opened the committee's markup session with a full-throated defense of the bill. “Today, we stand on the precipice of a generational opportunity to make an unprecedented investment in the safety and security of the American people by equipping our Border Patrol agents and our sons and daughters in the armed services with the tools and resources to safely and successfully do the first and most important job of the federal government: to provide for the common defense,” Arrington said. “But we also have an urgent responsibility to put in place the policies that will unleash economic growth and future prosperity—reining in wasteful spending and begin restoring the fiscal health of our nation, which has been in rapid decline over the last couple of decades.” Despite support from Trump and party leadership, five Republican members voted no: Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma and Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania. Following the failed vote, Trump lashed out on Truth Social. “Republicans MUST UNITE behind, ‘THE ONE, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!'” he wrote. “Not only does it cut Taxes for ALL Americans, but it will kick millions of Illegal Aliens off of Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in real need.” He warned that without the bill, Americans could see tax hikes and more chaos in the health care system — and pointed fingers at internal dissent. “We don't need ‘GRANDSTANDERS' in the Republican Party,” Trump added. “STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE! It is time to fix the MESS that Biden and the Democrats gave us.” The bill's collapse casts early doubt on Trump's second-term agenda and signals potential hurdles ahead for his legislative goals. I discuss how Trump must champion judicial reform in budget reconciliation and how exactly it can be done. Also, why is it always Chip Roy having to fight every battle in the House? On the Senate side, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is leading the fight for a better budget reconciliation bill. He joins us today to lay out his vision and strategy for re-focusing budget reconciliation to actually cut spending. He lays out the problem and the solution in great detail and calls on Trump to lead. The current one-bill strategy was a mistake on multiple fronts, and the senator is promising that no amount of pressure will get him to relent. Learn more about your ad choices. Will Congress Ensure Only Citizens Vote? | Ken Cuccinelli

By May 7, all U.S. citizens are supposed to have their federally required “Real ID” so that they can travel by air or enter a federal building. But what about using them to register to vote to ensure they are legally present in the country and eligible to vote in our elections? The SAVE Act, introduced by Republican Texas Rep. (and University of Virginia alumnus) Chip Roy, recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and now is awaiting action in the Senate. The SAVE Act, among other things, would require proof of citizenship for voter registration in federal elections and strengthen verification processes to ensure voter rolls only contained eligible citizen voters. The Daily Signal sat down with former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, former Virginia Attorney General, and current National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative Ken Cuccinelli to talk about the bill's likelihood of making it to President Donald Trump's desk. Meet our friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Tuesday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts: Biden Coverup Clay and Buck discuss revelations about President Joe Biden's mental and physical health. The hosts highlight the shift in media narratives, including Jake Tapper's upcoming book and Elizabeth Warren's interview on the Talk Easy podcast, where she defends her previous statements about Biden's acuity. They critique the media's portrayal of Biden during his presidency, comparing it to historical propaganda. Clay and Buck also delve into the broader implications of Biden's presidency, discussing the role of Jill Biden and the political strategies surrounding Biden's re-election campaign. David Zweig Blockbuster (@davidzweig) Interview with investigative journalist David Zweig, who discusses his new book, "An Abundance of Caution: American Schools, the Virus, and a Story of Bad Decisions." Zweig shares insights into the failures of American public policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly focusing on the detrimental impact of prolonged school closures. He highlights the lack of scientific evidence supporting these closures and the political pressures that influenced decisions, including the role of teachers' unions. The hosts and Zweig delve into the revisionist history surrounding the pandemic response, emphasizing the importance of demanding evidence-based policies. Zweig recounts his experiences with silent dissent among medical professionals and the challenges he faced in reporting the truth. He hopes his book will serve as a corrective to the narrative and arm readers with the knowledge to recognize and challenge misinformation in future crises. Clay and Buck also discuss the broader implications of the pandemic on public trust in institutions, with Zweig expressing his disillusionment with the legacy media and the left establishment. He shares how his worldview has been fundamentally altered by the events of the pandemic and the dishonesty he encountered. Harvard vs. Trump The legal dispute between Harvard University and the Trump administration over the withholding of billions in taxpayer dollars. The hosts critique the extensive federal funding of universities and question the necessity of such subsidies, especially given the ideological biases and discriminatory practices at institutions like Harvard. The discussion includes the ethical concerns surrounding NPR's government funding and its role as a competitor in the media landscape. Clay and Buck argue for the elimination of taxpayer subsidies to NPR, highlighting the unfair advantage it provides in the marketplace. TX Rep. Chip Roy (@RepChipRoy) Interview with Rep. Chip Roy of Texas on SCOTUS blocking Trump deportations and the Democrats traveling to El Salvador and their defense of Abrego Garcia. He criticizes the Democrats for prioritizing non-citizens over American victims of crime committed by illegal immigrants. Roy emphasizes the need for significant authority for the president to remove individuals who were wrongfully allowed into the United States. He also discusses the broader implications of the Democrats' stance on immigration and their pursuit of political power.
