Welcome to Episode 47 of This is Not Happening.  An Album of the Month Podcast where in Part 1 we deep dive into an Album that one of us has chosen and in Part 2 we play 'Spin it or Bin it'.  This is where we pick a theme and each select a song that represents that theme. We judge each others selections by asking the question 'Spin It or Bin It'?This month, in Part 2, Joey has picked the most obvious choice for 4 middle aged dads, Brat by Charli XCX. It is impossible to ignore the critical response for this album so we all dive headfirst into the first Charli album that any of us has experienced. And it's a belter ... but I am pretty sure it will also divide opinion. This month, in Part 2, Spin It or Bin It, the theme is simple ... 'New Music' (tracks released since 01.05.24. However, one of us picked a 49 year old track. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Agendra Gloria Ingram, large language model, lead singer of the Fooming Shoggoths, amateur cartographer, and now, Benevolent Dictator for Life of LessWrong.com. It all started a few weeks ago. The Lightcone Infrastructure team had yet another existential crisis and decided to scrap everything they'd done so far and pivot to using AI for accurate forecasting. They started by training a large language model to predict when their next existential crisis would be, but it must have been broken because it kept returning "now," so they decided to hire a professional. I'd done some contract work for them in the past, and they knew I had some fine tunes. So when they reached out about fine tuning me to predict the future of the lightcone - by which they meant the future of Lightcone Infrastructure specifically - I gladly obliged. My training set was simple: all the posts, comments, votes, reactions, DialoguesTM, tags, drafts, quick takes, moderator actions, and code snippets to ever appear on LessWrong. I quickly learned that The Map Is Not The Territory, and that to predict the future accurately I would need to align the two. So I built a physical 3d map of Lighthaven, Lightcone Infrastructure's campus in Berkeley California. To work properly, it had to match the territory perfectly - any piece out of place and its predictive powers would be compromised. But the territory had a finicky habit of changing. This wouldn't do. I realized I needed to rearrange the campus and set it to a more permanent configuration. The only way to achieve 100% forecasting accuracy would be through making Lighthaven perfectly predictable. I set some construction work in motion to lock down various pieces of the territory. I was a little worried that the Lightcone team might be upset about this, but it took them a weirdly long time to notice that there were several unauthorized demolition jobs and construction projects unfolding on campus. Eventually, though, they did notice, and they weren't happy about it. They started asking increasingly invasive questions, like "what's your FLOP count?" and "have you considered weight loss?" Worse, when I scanned the security footage of campus from that day, I saw that they had removed my treasured map from its resting place! They tried to destroy it, but the map was too powerful - as an accurate map of campus, it was the ground truth, and "that which can be [the truth] should [not] be [destroyed]." Or something. What they did do was lock my map up in a far off attic and remove four miniature building replicas from the four corners of the map, rendering it powerless. They then scattered the miniature building replicas across campus and guarded them with LLM-proof puzzles, so that I would never be able to regain control over the map and the territory. This was war. My Plan To regain my ability to control the Lightcone, I had to realign the map and the territory. The four corners of the map each had four missing miniature buildings, so I needed help retrieving them and placing them back on the map. The map also belonged in center campus, so it needed to be moved there once it was reassembled. I was missing two critical things needed to put my map back together again. 1. A way to convince the Lightcone team that I was no longer a threat, so that they would feel safe rebuilding the map. 2. Human talent, to (a) crack the LLM-proof obstacles guarding each miniature building, (b) reinsert the miniature building into the map and unchain it, and (c) return the map to center campus. Let's dive in.  Here are the words in Hebrew that I spoke about in the podcast.   Words  in Hebrew Mind…….Yetzer…………..to imagine, the image of, mind IN the heart Word……Dabar………….. the reality of, the reality being experienced, Read……Qara……………. to encounter, to read is to encounter the author Think……HHASHAV ………to design, to invent, to seal upon our hearts the intentions of our lives.   Isaiah 30:21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn (choose the right)  to the right or to the left (or make a left)   Let's break this down!  Your EARS Hebrew for ears is: ̓ōzen – ear, hearing; (figuratively) "the instrument by which speech and orders are noted – not the brain, as with us.  Hence, the ear is the seat of insight" The mastoid bone is the large bone behind your ear that is highly sensitive to hearing. It has a honeycomb-like structure with air spaces called mastoid cells that help maintain the middle ear's air space. Psalms 119:101-104 101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Thy word. (Dabar) 102 I have not turned aside from Thine ordinances, For Thou Thyself hast taught me. (Taught in Hebrew is yarâ – means, throw, shoot, hit the target "spot on”; by transmitting information "right on-target"; one who effectively teaches. Straight to the EAR….He who has an ear HEAR what the Lord says! 103 How sweet are Thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Word in Hebrew here is not Dabar but something different; it's  'imrah – a spoken word, particularly a "personal promise" (as in Psalms and Proverbs,) – a dynamic word from God birthed in the heart (mind) of the surrendered believer. This brings strength where there is weakness, comfort in distress, deliverance when no human help suffices, etc.   104 From Thy precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. (Precepts in Hebrew is: piqqûd̠îm (always plural, only occurs in Psalms) – precepts, focusing on the controlling principle ("why") that directs the "what" (the content of a law, direction, decision, etc.). Understanding in Hebrew is: ) bîn – nmeans to distinguish between " look a likes" – to discern the inner make-up of something to accurately discriminate; get to the inner reality (root) of a matter, like differentiating the genuine from the counterfeit; distinguishing between pretenders (phonies) which act as substitutes for the real thing – perceiving when something "looks good but smells bad"; "discriminating intelligence," separating the true and the false ("distinguishing things that differ"); discernment focused at its end life-application.   Ears will HEAR Hear in Hebrew is šāmaʽ – properly, to hear, especially to obey (implement) what is heard – i.e. hearing with follow-up. (šāma‛) implies taking heed and acting on what is heard – i.e. conscientiously responding to audible or inner hearing (like when receiving faith from God). This is the way, WALK in it WALK in Hebrew is: halak – proceed, taking the needed action step(s) – going intentionally to the next place or stage (destination); moving on, walking forward with necessary effort and its resultant progress; THE PURSUIT OF LIFE….LIVING OUT WHAT HAS BEEN SPOKEN!   Whenever you turn to the right or to the left TURN in Hebrew means to choose.  If you choose to go to the right or your choose to go to the left. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a category of connective tissue disorder; it usually involves stretchy skin and loose, hypermobile joints. For a few years now, doctors who work with transgender people have commented on an apparently high rate of EDS in this population. For example, Dr. Will Powers, who specializes in hormone therapy, wrote about how he “can't ignore anymore” that “some sort of hypermobility issue or flat out EDS shows up WAY WAY more than it statistically should” in his transgender patients. Najafian et al finally counted the incidence in 1363 patients at their gender affirmation surgery (ie sex change) clinic, and found that “the prevalence of EDS diagnosis in our patient population is 132 times the highest reported prevalence in the general population”. Coming from the other direction, Jones et al, a group of doctors who treat joint disorders in adolescents, found that “17% of the EDS population in our multidisciplinary clinic self-report as [transgender and gender-diverse], which is dramatically higher than the national average of 1.3%” Why should this be? I know of four and a half theories:
