Director of the super hot CrashPad Series, Ava is a trans woman who grew up in San Francisco and is a full zero on the shame-o-meter, celebrating the fuck out of herself as an adult. She reflects on origins of catholic guilt, and shares how intentionality and self-possession are sexy and how she uses implicit communication on set to collaborate with performers and explicit hand signals to direct cameras during a scene. Ava talks about her transition aligning with her own exploration and awakening in the adult industry which all started when she met Jiz Lee shooting a go-go dancing nightlife video in the Castro, compersion for front-of-camera guests, supporting people in their raw sexiness, the skills that make her an incredible creator, hot standouts, creating with her husband and muse Ramses Rodstein, their upcoming rope suspension piñata scene, and trans women being lesbian AF with strap-ons. We agree: butt stuff is great, sex and sexuality are the gateway to knowing who we are, and we should all use our own superpowers to spread love.
As the founding producer and director of Pink & White Productions, (CrashPadSeries.com, PinkLabel.tv), SHINE LOUISE HOUSTON has always had unique vision. Graduating from San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art Film, her works have become the new gold standard of adult cinema. During a five year position at the women-owned, sex toy purveyor Good Vibrations, Shine recognized an underserved demand for an alternative to mainstream pornography, and began to create well-crafted queer made porn. Shine's films have been recognized among the next big wave of women produced porn and have been internationally screened from Amsterdam to New Zealand. https://pinklabel.tv/ - PinkLabel.TV - indie adult streaming platform https://crashpadseries.com/ - CrashPadSeries.com - queer adult cinema https://sfpff.pinklabel.tv - San Francisco PornFilmFestival - coming August 24-27 Twitter & IG @PinkLabelTV and @ShineLouise
Kay is our youngest guest yet, and she lets us in on how her generation is exploring sex differently because they're the first with easy access to p*rn. She has dated people of multiple genders, and realized she loves all bodies. Despite her young age, Kay has already learned hard lessons about toxic relationships, trust, and consent. Kay is an 18-year-old cisgender female. She describes herself as Black, pansexual, monogamous, and in a relationship. She grew up Catholic and describes her body as full. Bookmark moments: 5:34 - Kay shares her first memory of sexual pleasure, when her peers in 6th grade were watching porn. It was her closest thing to a learning experience before trying things like handjobs and blowjobs. 9:55 - Kay “sort of” came out as bi in 7th grade, and then discovered she liked trans people too. She went to a Catholic school with genders separated and describes girls kissing in class. As they get older, school culture turns anti-gay. 14:40 - Sex Ed in school was brief biology, everything she already knew. Her first kiss was a dare on IG live with her best friend. It becomes her first relationship, which has its struggles. 18:00 - Kay talks about suicidal thoughts that both she and her girlfriend worked through. 25:30 - Kay lives with her mom; her mom found out about her dating girls after seeing her phone but didn't take issue with it. Kay wishes for more open conversation around sex. 31:03 - She meets a boy. He's not a friend first, and after the honeymoon phase it doesn't go well, but lasts for two toxic years. He verbally abuses her about her appearance and cheats on her. 38:20 - Kay describes a painful loss of virginity experience. Our culture says this is normal, but Leah does some myth-busting on what is actually normal and how this experience can and should go down. 47:41 - Kay talks about her current relationship. She's had her first orgasm! But sometimes he doesn't stop when she tells him to. This includes unwanted touching. 55:27 - They talk about how Kay's generation is the first with easy access to porn, and what messages are being gleaned. 1:01:30 - They talk about masturbation. Kay started around 4th 1:03:03 - The Lowdown: Kay answers questions about sex during periods, STI's, birth control, number of sex partners, dating outside your race, toys, positions, initiating sex, being active vs passive, clit stimulation vs penetration, breast play, achieving and faking orgasms, solo vs partnered sex, kinds of touch, rough play, safety protocols specific to choking, one's partner masturbating alone or watching porn alone, blowjobs, swallowing, hair vs bare, group sex, ass play, kink desires, dirty talk, laughter, confusing sexual urges, favorite body part, least favorite body part, areas to improve sex life, and correcting old beliefs. Leah has asked many of her interviewees how many sexual partners they’ve had. The answers, in their surprisingly wide variety, show that there is no “normal.” This also opens up a discussion about what “counts” as sex. Here’s a Thought: Your sexual desires don’t always overlap with your romantic relationship preferences. You can be attracted to and visually stimulated by both men and women, but maybe you only want to engage in long-term committed partnerships with men—or vice versa. Bookmarks for this episode: 6:38 – Chorus of voices answering “How many people have you had sex with?” 10:33 - Leah gives her “number” and discusses what “sex” means. 16:00 - “Am I Normal?” This week’s caller asks if being attracted to women means her heterosexual marriage is over. 21:55 - When *not* to ask your husband for a threesome. 23:40 - Our sexual desires and our relationship styles don’t always match up. Queer porn producer, writer & director, Shine Louise Houston, is our guest on episode 77 of American Sex Podcast. We talk about pay inequities in porn and her progressive pay structure for talent, what it means to be queer, her upcoming movie "Chemistry Eases the Pain" which is a “straight curious” adventure-- that leads to a discussion of identity policing in the queer community and the all too common problem of being ridiculed for doing something or someone that isn’t “queer enough.” We also discuss the challenges of being a queer woman of color in the industry, crowdfunding adult films, why it’s important to pay for your porn, and more. This week, Barbara Carrellas joins me to talk all about tantra. Her incredible, inclusive book, "Urban Tantra" just celebrated it's 10 year anniversary by releasing an updated 2nd edition. The new edition includes tantra for asexual/aromantic folks and an entire chapter on erotic massage for trans and gender non-conformity bodies. If you've listened to the show for any amount of time, you know that I adore this book and Barbara's approach to tantra. And, this week's episode gives you a delicious idea of why - it's so inclusive, so open, so welcoming, and absolutely designed for you to customize it to fit your needs, desires, and life. Tantra shouldn't be about certain positions, heterosexual bodies, masculinity or femininity and certain genders because it's a spiritual practice. And spiritual practices need to include everybody in every body. Grab the 2nd edition of Urban Tantra RIGHT NOW. Looking for my new porn workshop? Pop over here. Follow Sex Gets Real on Twitter and Facebook. It's true. Oh! And Dawn is on Instagram. About Barbara Carrellas: Barbara Carrellas is celebrating the brand new second edition of her bestselling book, Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty First Century—the world’s first LGBTQ- and BDSM-inclusive Tantric sex book. She has also written Ecstasy is Necessary: A Practical Guide To Sex, Relationships and Oh So Much More, and Luxurious Loving. Barbara is the founder of Urban Tantra® — a philosophy, an international community, and an inclusive conscious sexuality practice—and the Urban Tantra® Professional Training Program, a comprehensive training program in the practice and application of conscious sexuality, supporting both personal and professional goals. She was named Best Tantric Sex Seminar Leader in New York City by Time Out/NY Magazine for her Urban Tantra® workshops, and was awarded a 2016 Sexual Freedom Award for Lifetime Achievement. Feminist porn means a lot of things to a lot of people, but what it doesn't do is exclude people based on gender, body type, partner preference or play style. It's, paraphrasing Tristan Taormino, organic, fair trade porn. It's organic because it emerges from performers doing precisely what they choose to do, and fair trade because they participate in ethical business practices. We discuss feminist porn with Dylan Ryan and talk about the movement at large. [powerpress] Check out the Smitten Kitten Online and use our discount code, SWINGSET for a 10% discount!
